Do you like DC/Marvel amalgams? Do you think there are better fan examples than what was in the actual books? Could it be a substantial fictional universe to hold books or merely a gimmick?

The Shazam Jr/Captain America one was funny

What this guy's hero name again?
All I know is he is an amalgam of Captain Man and Super American, now those two are a classic.

In all seriousness I like the Villain amalgams more
Hyena for one (Joker + Sabertooth) I can only imagine the origin story, make yous think that this version of gotham city might be a mutant city akin to genosha etc..

Not really since most of the combinations were weird and made no sense.

Similar characters being combined like Dr Strange and Dr Fate, Vision and Red Tornado those made sense.
I did not see what in the fuck caused Batman and Wolverine to be combined. Or Spider-Man and Superboy.
There are loads of characters that are similar enough that a combination works, but they almost never appeared. Amalgam seemed to work on just picking them based on popularity.

They're both the most popular dark & broody character of their universe + their exended cast & rogues gallery matches really well.
Nowadays they would work even better.

>Or Spider-Man and Superboy.
Friendly & quipy younger hero with a mid-tier power-level and their rouges pair well... so for Spidey it was either Superboy or Flash (but Speed Demon was already too peak to pass on that idea).

Who would you rather merged with Batman, Wolverine, Spider-Man and Superboy?

Yes if it had a good creative team they could do something interesting. Whatever happened with the crossovers, initially they said there'd be several but it was only the two?

Green Goblin.
The manor has gargoyle statues all over it, and one of them in particular scared the shit out of young Bruce, his mom and Alfred would tell him it was a goblin, they take care of the house at night, but Bruce was still terrified of it and eventually Thomas had it moved to the far end of their home.
After the first night out ends badly, Bruce crashes his car in to the manor and blacks out. He wakes up to the car on fire, drags himself out and just seconds later, the goblin statue falls on the car, crushing the drivers side.

They had some cool designs here and there but I don't think any of the ideas really had legs. They very clearly leaned hard on recognizing who combined to make what.

The Access character was so lame and they put such boring artists on the main crossover, missed opportunity
