>The indie animation scene basically consists of former (or active) industry people and well established youtubers with tens-hundreds of thousands of dollars
Do hobbyists make animations anymore? Feels like we're just trying to recreate television but on YouTube now
>>
I've seen a couple literal whos make cartoons by themselves.
>>

>TFW my indie concept is too ambitious for me to make alone and I still suck ass at animating despite doing it for over a decade.
My show can only be done justice through the television system. Thankfully, I have had opportunities to pitch it
>>
Every day I regret not making full animations and posting them on YouTube back in 2013. Biggest mistake of my life. I was retarded and thought I would make my show in stop motion for some fucking reason so I was training for that. Bought a 600 dollar camera, 300 dollar software, legos and a bunch of clay/puppet making material. Didn't snap out of it until 2019. Now I'm 31 and my 2D animations suck ass. On top of that, I don't know how much time we have left. I genuinely don't see this planet surviving past 2031

Why are a lot of indie animators dykes or fags? Their work isn't all that original, they steal ideas from pre-existing works like anime or classic literature. The only difference between their work and the orginal is that they put "cute" designs over them.

Most aren't actually gay. They're just "non-binary queer" women, or troon men who want to feel extra special.

When it comes to animation like Bob Clampett or Chuck Jones, reproducing their work is straight up impossible. And there have been a lot of animated revivals of past popular cartoons that completely failed. The originality of the creator is necessary.

Plenty of shitty-looking professional work as with Boxtown, you just have your clout goggles on.

I don't know how to feel about it, man. People keep saying "indie is the future" but I can't find a fucking job in over a year. All the good paying jobs in California and New York have gone back to wanting people to be on-site in order to apply, which I can't afford to do because rent in those places has become unsustainable. Most of the contracts are only a year long, six months if you get very unlucky. I look for indie productions to see if anyone is hiring artists/animators and so many of them are, "Basically no pay until we get our Kickstarter going!". I now have to compete with people in Brazil and India applying to remote jobs and accepting 1/6th the pay. Fucking industry veterans are trying to get their foot through the door with GLITCH to get their idea off the ground. So many of these independent productions feel like they're clamoring for a Netflix deal but are going to pay their crew a quarter of what working on an actual Netflix production would pay, but uh, I guess that showrunner gets to have HIS dream come true of making his passion project, so fuck everyone else.

This all fucking sucks. Indie is not an alternative to the industry. When you have some dork-ass stick figure "history animated" YouTube channel looking for animators and have to compete with 100+ people because everyone is desperate for money, and the money is like $200, it's just fucking pathetic. I'm sick of hearing indie is the future. I'm sick of the union telling me I should re-join and pay my fees and never promising me work. I fucking hate that these self-help millennial retards made the most boring cartoons imaginable filled with agenda garbage and crashed the industry before I had a chance to really work in it. I hate that they're all blaming greedy executives as if they weren't also contributing to its downfall with insanely unappealing cartoons that no kid wants to watch.

I just wanted to draw for cartoons like Dexter's Lab and Angry Beavers as a kid, I thought it was so cool
>>
>>155456225
Because a lot of right wingers look down on the arts. Sure there are some right wing animators, but most of the time, they'll scoff at the idea that their kid wants to get into it, say it's "Not a real job" then wonder why a lot of industry people tend to be far on the other side. Then they just spite them by calling all their stuff woke and shilling AI.

Not even just for animation, 90% of the film industry is like this.
>>
>>155456595
Why do so many of these storytime YouTube channels require teams now?
Even odd1sout had a dozen people working on a given video before being forced to downsize.
>>
>>155456652
That's not true at all. It has nothing to do with right-wingers and everything to do with certain cultures who prioritize monetary success above all else (Chinese, Jewish, Indian). Those cultures tend to be more conservative leaning, as in holding tight onto their own culture's traditions, but not American right-wing.

Whites, Hispanics, and Blacks have no problems with saddling their kid with $400k+ worth of debt to go to an art school because they believe it'll make them happy.

>>155455913
The milky subway guy was a literal who and made his show on a dime
>>
>>155455913
>Feels like we're just trying to recreate television but on YouTube now
That's literally what YouTube is now. Channels are like networks and each video is a new episode or special.
>>
>>155455913
If their ideas are shit, they're still going to flounder. A teenager spent 4 months solo making an AMV for her OCs and it got 80 million views and a whole fandom in less than a year. The type of shit these industry people would kill for but since their indie ideas are mostly shit, they'll never reach that high

>>
>>155456708
>Why do so many of these storytime YouTube channels require teams now?
Animation itself takes a long time and for them to still be in the algorithm they gotta have teams of people to work on new videos. So maybe it's due to greedier intentions and laziness.

>>
>>155456708
Not sure for all of them, but I know some newer channels are trying to crank out videos in hopes the algorithm will pick them up so they can be the next "OverSimplified" or "Historically". They tend to have scripts that reach to either 15 to 30 minutes long and want multiple videos being worked on at once, so invest a little bit into having multiple productions going on banking that they'll be making it back with a spike in viewership.

https://www.youtube.com/@imfranzyt
Look at channels like that to see what I'm talking about. Relatively new channel cranking out very simple storybook explanation videos every couple of days that average 10 minutes long. The only way that's doable without AI is by having a team of like, eight or twelve people total. They know the quality is simple and do not charge very much, probably $50 to $150 for each artist's work per video. I'd be willing to bet most of the artist team is composed of people from India, South America, or Mexico.
>>
>>155455913
Being a one man indie creator is pretty shitty. You gotta be good at drawing, animation, writing, compositing, video and audio editing, and marketing
>>
>>155456862
I don't understand how anyone can bother trying to make it big on YouTube in current year. The landscape has completely changed and newbies have unironically missed the boat. If you didn't make it big before 2017, you never will
It sucks making videos that barely cross 1k views.

The screen cap is right. There is no rational reason to reject AI assistance while fully accepting puppet animation. If anything, AI assistance is more human and original. The only reason to try to preserve puppet rig crap is communism, fake jobs for people who can’t do real stuff.
>>155456525
“Originality” doesn’t mean being made in a vacuum. Every child is original to the parent, you can’t get a kid with those genes elsewhere, but they eat food that anyone can eat.

This. YT actively deters animators and animation. The algorithm based format (to which YT controls behind the scenes but denies and pretends the algorithm is some kind of mysterious machine function of their site they have no control over) turned YT into a heavily curated and biased platform. It doesn't help their posting rules and violations are extremely vague, and there's a large amount of censorship and bias from moderators.
It's also why you see so much slop on there, everyone is chasing the algorithm. Every YT short is someone at the bottom of the screen is looking at the viewer as a video or clip plays.
The Ad-apocalypse further gutted the platform, Markiplier, SpecticEye and PewDiePie were making a big racket about it at the time because it fundamentally changed how they had to approach the platform, and they all agreed and lament that it was easier before hand. You also see these three big YT Juggernauts begin to slowly bow out around that time.
Then to top it off, removing the like and dislike ratios, and then cutting off comments.

Your work is invisible to the hoi polloi unless something validates engaging with it. This usually means a preexisting following or connection to something with clout. There are dozens if not hundreds of golden goose tier IPs rotting in obscurity because people can't be bothered to view something that isn't viral on twitter
>>
>>155456040
You gotta imagine your cartoons less as a TV show and more as proof of concept shorts.

Vets dumping indie that easily would be interesting to see. I can see that pissing a lot of people off. Especially if Dana Terrace leaves Glitch for Disney

You’re just childishly refusing my point in a gay way.
I made this wip painting, AI made a video game concept out of it, guiding finishing the painting. My AIs are starting to define brand integrity of my projects to preserve originality fully.

Funny part here is Boomer Bootstrapism coming back out of your mouths after pretending to rebel against them. Truly both boomers and gays are insufferable.

Gay people jerked off and buttfucked to ruining the careers of heterosexual artists as they tried to do to Chimptopia but failed so they’re changing their tune.

Dykes and Fags wanted representation but people bitched at them to learn how to "Create" and make their representation themselves, so the Dykes and Fags got to work, learned Blender or ToonBoom or some other animation software and now you're starting to see the end result
Anyone from that era complaining now should have seen this coming

>>155456298
I can see a lot of these Industry Pros and Veterans ditching the Indie Scene the moment the Industry stops shooting itself in the foot. The indie scene is sort of held up/held hostage by guys who had legitimate jobs animating and not people doing this in their free time
