I should get around to reading this. Back when there was a Transformers General, I was trying to read both the US and UK issues plus the current comic lines and burned out around the Seacons introduction iirc. I liked it, but only have vague memories at this point.

You've got the Cons and Bots jumping between Cybertron and Earth like they're nextdoor to one another, but then having long trips in other scenes, and rather pointless ones like Galvtron going to see Unicron who could have just telepathically told him "nah bro, you didn't kill Magnus yet"That said, it's definitely something you're bound to like more if you either grew up with the original cartoon, or at least have a soft spot for older cartoons and their film tie-ins and how those were quite frankly just big toy commercials with insane budgets.
One thing I like about the Marvel comics is how the Decepticons and Autobots were composed of mostly independent subfactions that share a common cause instead of just being Megatron/Optimus and their followers. The Decepticons are full of commanders who are ready to take over if given the chance, not just Starscream, while the Autobots follow Optimus simply because they like him more than any other potential leader. In both cases leadership is earned, not given.

Missed the last thread, but the Matrix Quest storyline in there was the first time any Autobot leaders before Optimus had actually gotten named. Season 3 of the cartoon showed a number of earlier leaders, and one pre-Megatron Decepticon leader, but without naming them. Dreamwave and IDW would reuse some of the names from Matrix Quest, and eventually the guys depicted in the cartoon would get canonized with those names too.

At the climax he smashes Cybertron a couple times, but you don't really see the effects of the damage too much. I wanted to see a planet scope size of damage from a planet sized threat. Everyone quickly transforms into vehicle mode and then buzzes around him like flys for a couple minutes. The ship crashing through his eye did the most damage. Honestly I wish we could've seen more of the inside of his body and maybe dealt some damage there. It's a PLANET sized transformer, but it honestly didn't feel any different than fighting a metroplex sized bot.

Even if it meant his departure from the scene, he lived up to his agreement with Megatron about the game. Is it just me or this entire G1 Marvel run is a lot more fun to read than the IDW issues? Even when lighthearted, it has better characterizations and more interesting fights, and everything is a lot more logical and less complicated. Every single issue works on its own yet you still have over arcing plots, and despite the light heartedness it still has epic fights. There's writers who love a character only for someone to hate them, so you got Bumblebee who becomes leader on Earth with no respect, temp leader of cybertron with no respect, and whatever was going on with him dying. And it's made worse by the comic being 80% words and illegible on certain pages.

Saw the movie today, I'm a zoomer so it was my first time. Fun but my criticisms are the same as everyone else's i.e. they kill all the interesting characters early on so you're stuck with literally whos for the rest of the film. Also as a Weird Al fan I was caught off guard by Dare To Be Stupid being in the soundtrack lol. The new special was cool but I was too much of a brainlet to get it. It was building to something more but there's not gonna be anything since Peter Cullen passed away.

The early Furman era is does a lot of things different to 'normal G1' and seemingly for the sake of trying to be different from normal, and juggles a lot of concepts and plotlines at the same time. The later runs refusal to just reboot and start over left them stuck with a lot of things they were having to retcon or write around.The All Hail Megatron era is like a soft reboot so they could do a "PG-13 Sunbow G1", sort of like the missing link between Dreamwave and Energon Universe, but the people who'd been reading the earlier Furman run hated that. Then we got the Costa run that fumbled right out of the game with the Bayformers-inspired redesigns and a writer admitting he didn't really get Transformers.The Roberts/Barber run seemed like a massive improvement at first, post-war Transformers being a fresh new idea, and they had a lot of world-building ideas, but by two years in the gays and fujos had swarmed in like sharks smelling blood or flies smelling poop, and online they drowned out the existing audience, the writers started writing for them. Roberts also went way overboard on Transformers making pop-culture references to human TV and movies, to the point where it got really annoying.I think social media has just ruined a lot of serial fiction in general because the writers are interacting with the worst kind of fans so much that they assume everyone wants what those creatures want.
