For that matter, the computer should always know it has duplicated a person, and should put up a little alert, but it apparently doesn'tthis also jives with Scotty making himself immortal in perfect stasis by jerry-rigging a transporter to constantly self-cycle, so his pattern wouldn't degrade all that time.
