Any of you have experience with old comic book forums?I come across them every so often, and it seems like people have always held dogshit opinions like we do, even with usernames. May be why we're in our current mess.

I was on the IGN Message Boards back in the day, I saw all kinds of awful opinions.
By far the best was Batman's Shameful Secret on Something Awful. I'm sure it's cringy to people here but the discussion at it's peak was better than most places. It's been a shell for like 10+ years like most of SA. But it felt like it had a better spoken userbase, willingness to try a better variety of comics, suffered less idiocy, etc. Superhero Hype forums were ok, mostly dudebrosNewsarama was decent, losing it was a major hit.CBR is the last man standing and mainly old guys by nowThe official DC forums were really janky but cool in that it could have forums for every major comic branch going on. Tiny forums like the ones you posted were mainly for older fans which explains the more conservative art tastes. They're very cliquey, like John Byrne's forumthe real good one was kaskus for free comics

People from ComicsAlliance came out of that place.
I still want to beat half to death the subhuman mods who nuked the entire CBR forum and all accounts just because a handful of users mocked a radical feminist (who was wailing about Rocafort's Wonder Girl having boobs too large)

Everything becomes low-effort slop because only fast, easily digestible and mass-marketable content manages to stay relevant.You can even see this effect on 4chan. The more popular a board, the harder it is to have a genuine, rational discussion about literally any topic, because troll threads, politically motivated ragebait, and Twitter screencap threads are far easier to make and get more far engagement from the average poster. Even in decent threads, discussion more often than not either gets ignored in favor of cheap memes, or triggers some loser's autism and devolves into shitposting.
