Looking back
how do feel about the 2010's Inhumans era?
Did it do irreperable damage to the reputation of the Inhumans?
>>
>>155559300
The Inhumans were never that popular on their own. It was just Blackbolt and Medusa. The push was a failure and showed why they can't replace the mutants. They even lost their new inhuman to the mutants. Things went back to normal with the X-Men thriving and the Inhumans appearing every once in a while.
>>
>>155559300
I hate ESLs.
>>
It had nothing to do with Inhumans really, weak concept designed to shill faggot OCs that nobody cares about. Fundamentally you don't even need the concept to create new characters, just say so and so is an Inhuman you haven't heard of before. I think the only things I enjoyed were Triton and Maximus going an a silly quest and Kang taking care of Ahura (a messy character to begin with)
>>
>>155559300
The 2010s did irreparable damage to every big 2 character. The 2020s has been no better.
>>
>>155559300
Opinions on the Inhumans got pretty low on here, at least. Can't speak to other communities' opinions. A moment which sticks out in my mind as emblematic of how low /co/'s opinion got on them: when the first issue of Death of the Inhumans released, someone posted a link to Shellac's Prayer to God as the thread theme. A song where the singer spends most of the song screaming "KILL HIM, FUCKIN' KILL HIM, KILL HIM ALREADY KILL HIM!" There was also a classic "Press S to spit on the grave" post which had a massive number of replies
>>
>>155559749
that just sounds like salty ass X-fags
>>
>>155559300
Oh yeah it did
The problem was them trying to replace the Mutants with the Inhummas. The conflict was fine, a interesting idea, but the full ideological one-to-one desire to replace xmen with them for the purpose of synergy with the MCU was stupid.

They really should've been one of those series arcs of "Hey, a bunch of peop, people, changed suddenly at nice and are probably going to leave. What the hell?"

Look at the OP. Hostility to the X-men franchise was baked in to the Inhuman push. It probably had to do with Sony having the X-men's movie rights.
>>
>>155559300
>Did it do irreperable damage to the reputation of the Inhumans?
yes. it doesn't help that recently, Hickman brought inhumans back to the failed cosmic marvel relaunch and made inhumans genocidal tyrants

Inhumans lost their chance, and they will never become huge.

Meh. Very few people gave a single fuck about the Inhumans to start with and very people give a single fuck about the Inhumans now. I'm just glad it's over and mostly buried. Every now and then someone tries to make the Inhumans relevant again, and it always fails. At best, we get another "wow Black Bolt is badass" moment out of it.
The only "lasting damage" it did was to the X-Men brand, not to the Inhumans. It deliberately pushed the X-Men farther away from being classic heroes just to spite Sony, in favor of what was blatantly Inhuman propaganda. It's also part of the reason why uncritical morons (like most of /co/) now believe that the X-Men are shit.
>>
>>155559300
Do they still have that weird slave class?

Fox owned the X-men rights, alongside Fantastic Four
That was also very noticable, how everything F4 related got pushed to the side
Marvel had a huge ass push for everything cosmic yet wasn't able to use its most iconic cosmic material in the form of Silver Surfer, Galactus or even the Skrulls.
Post Secret Wars there was no F4 ongoing, wich was a first in almost 60 years of Marvel Comics
>>
>>155560079
>Do they still have that weird slave class?
No because they never did when the alpha primitive became sanctioned they stopped being slaves like we would with horses and dogs if they became suddenly sanction.

The 2010s did horrible damage to pop culture and society in general and the 2020s are just the 2010s-the sequel because all the awful shit from the 2010s that shouldve gone away by the start of the next decade just passed seamlessly and continued into the 2020s because we are in a cursed timeline.

It's been very interesting to see how /co/ went from rooting for the X-Men and creating Rightclops memes during/after AvX, to pretending they've always hated the X-Men after IvX.
>>
Really weird seeing opinions change over time. It used to be that people wanted them to die off during the push, now it's pretty much a relief when they do actually show up despite Marvel's current stance of minimizing references to anything Inhuman, and nowadays even normie opinions on the X-Men have taken a downturn after their Krakoa shenanigans have reached the mainstream by coverage from comic YouTubers.

Krakoa did more damage to the X-Men than the Inhuman push ever did ironically.
>>
>>155560363
>to pretending they've always hated the X-Men after IvX.
Krakoa gave they opportunity to for those who hated the X-men to drown out the fans of the X-men, I doubt too many people who ironically did those cringe Rightclops memes changed their opinion

The last 16 years have done irreperable damage to DC and Marvel comics. The only way to fix it is to fire every single person in the industry down to the cleaning lady of their offices, replace absolutely everyone with new people.
>>
>>155559300
Who thought that pushing the inhumans while in the process killing off the X-Men which was obviously done due to movie rights was a smart idea? Obviously people would hate this forced initiative which would hurt the inhumans popularity who wouldn't all that popular before. i think marvel overcorrected though after the inhumans hate because now it feels like marvel is scared to touch them again. Now some people want them back because they do have a few cool characters that don't deserve to be locked up because of editorials mistakes.

>>155559416
You're underselling just how badly the X-Men books were doing even before the Inhumans push started. Scaling down the number of X-Men books in the 2010s was absolutely a correct business decision, trying to "replace them" by twisting the Inhumans into replacement X-Men was a retarded move. As was telling the audience that they were cutting down on X-books because of Marvel's beef with Sony instead of saying they were doing it because they weren't selling, which would have been impossible for anyone to argue with.

If anything what we have now is an over-correction, where we have close to 20 X-books per month and only a small number of them are actually selling, the rest are future landfill.
>>
>>155560058
>It deliberately pushed the X-Men farther away from being classic heroes just to spite Sony
That's something Marvel had been doing since the early to mid 2000s. What happened in the 2010s was just Marvel reacting to X-fags' constant praise of the extinction saga and doing another one.

>It's also part of the reason why uncritical morons (like most of /co/) now believe that the X-Men are shit.
Anon, we're clearly at a point where X-Men has been bad for longer than it was ever good, it's insane that it still has such a passionate, zealous fanbase when it's been bad for so long. X-Men isn't a hometown sports team you need to stay loyal to no matter how bad they suck and for how long. It's just a comic book you can stop reading when it refuses to get better. And like Spider-Man, it'll never get better unless people walk away in enough numbers to force Marvel to change the book or let it die.
>>
>>155569051
>OG Iceman dead
He was in Lemire's Extraordinary
>OG Angel/Archangel forgotten
He was in Bunn's Uncanny
You don't need to oversell. What they actually did was bad enough.
>>
the worst legacy this era left behind was oficially killing Marvel vs Capcom
>>
>>155569503
No matter how badly the X-Men comics were doing at the time, the Inhuman books were doing worse. Marvel even did a series of popularity tweets on twitter pitting a mutant against an Inhuman. And the mutants won every time. Marvel tried their hardest to sink the X-Men brand and prop up the Inhumans and it all backfired. Even with Rosenberg writing shit, more people were checking it out than whatever the Inhumans were doing.
>>
>>155569655
You're missing the point entirely by focusing on the artificial "X-Men vs Inhumans" rivalry Marvel manufactured. Obviously Marvel can't just take characters from a state of not even having one book and suddenly brute force them into being a successful franchise, and any fool knows that, but people need to actually pay attention to how bad X-Men was, how most of the secondary and tertiary books weren't selling, and stop pretending like "these books were carrying Marvel then one day they cancelled a lot of them out of spite". Cutting down the line was absolutely justified, and shifting their priorities in merch and games towards characters that were more popular with normies was a sensible business move, even the year or two with a total ban on merch for the characters Fox had the rights to might have been going too far.
>>
>>155559300
They were only pushed because Disney didn't have the rights to the xmen

Anon I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about Marvel literally pitting the two against each other. It's kind of in the title. And we all know why it was done. We know the impact it had on the comics, the games, the merchandise, etc. This is all well known stuff. Everyone knows that mutants were purposely being kept down so the Inhumans can shine and Fox couldn't capitalize on anything new that they could use in the movies.

>Everyone knows that mutants were purposely being kept down
The point is that from a business point of view it was blatantly obviously time to de-push them and prioritize other brands that were doing better, instead of continuing to push X-Men like the 90s never ended, as Marvel are doing now, in stubborn defiance to how most of those books don't sell. A thing isn't just inherently eternally popular, and by the mid 2010s X-Men had been in decline for some time already. The core books still sold but weren't topping the charts anymore, and the spinoff books were increasingly a waste of Marvel's talent and resources.

And we can't have these conversations and people can't just accept it was just time to push other characters instead because the beef with Fox and Marvel's retarded plan to turn the Inhumans into replacement X-Men instead of just letting them be the Inhumans created a "conspiracy against the X-Men" for fans to rail against, and just live in denial that there was anything wrong before then. Fox or no Fox, Inhumans or no Inhumans, in the mid 2010s there was no need for there to be a lot of secondary X-books that weren't selling, and there's no need for them now, and there was no need for Marvel to be prioritizing X-Men in merch back then over more popular characters.

And here we are in 2026, years deep into an era of "why would anyone even still be an X-Men fan unless they're a Gay Nationalist?" and there's still a vocal, angry fanbase that gets everything it wants yet is still complaining about things that happened ten years ago and will never stop.

Half the reason that X-men and Spider-Man fans are so fanatical is that the base concept is sound and Marvel has been selling the 80s/90s version of the characters instead of the modern day. That's why the die-hard fans have such blinders on them. They're basically waiting for the "old" versions to come back. And as cucked as Spider-Man has been with OMD, the useless hanger-ons, and with his own title being a neverending humiliation ritual, he has a snowball's chance in hell of recovering. X-men's diehard fans and writers ar etoo deep in the race allegory kool-aid to ever go back, and the Krakoa bullshit proved that.
>>
>>155570987
Let's reverse that opinion and still make it true. OMD effectivelly killed any gravity, or potential for Spider-man to grow, as such, Spider-Man fanbase is represented by possessive manchildren, who are incabable of developing mentally. X-Men on the other hand is not afraid of trying different ideas, concepts, and redefining the status quo. As Such, you never truly now what you get with them, and you can always in for a surprise. The worst thing you can do with Spider-Man and X-Men is to make them average. Like now.
>>
>>155569851
Inhumans were a bunch of weirdo pseudo-alien freaks living in an ancient civilization that the Fantastic Four hung out with occasionally. The X-men were more run of the mill freaks and geeks. They were always there to basically introduce issues in their own fucked up society that the Fantastic Four or someone else would have to help fix. Which is why it was lame when the Inhumans began larping as X-men, and even lamer when the X-men tried larping as the Inhumans.
>>
>>155571032
>X-Men on the other hand is not afraid of trying different ideas, concepts, and redefining the status quo.
Not where I've been sitting, anon. It wasn't a coincidence that half the reason people got so excited for Hickman's run of X-men was it was supposed to end the constant repeated extinction crises events that the X-men had repeating over and over again for decades.

Like don't get me wrong, I agree with you that Spider-Man's main book is beyond fucked, and that it's only theoretical that it could ever improve. But at least their fans want it to change from its current shit state. A non-insignificant X-men fanbase love its current downward spiral and will actively fight against people wanting it to change. And the writers are happy to keep it that way for them.
>>
>>155570760
>the most profitable comicbook characters that marvel has: x-men
Spider-Man, the X-Men aren't even a blip to him, and the Avengers was also the team responsible for the MCU's success. Even the X-Men's golden boy, Wolverine, has been getting a lot of negativity around his 300+ million dollar boondoggle. Sony and Insomniac haven't even published official numbers citing how proud they are of its sales like they did with the Spider-Man games, that's very telling that something is off and they advertised the absolute shit out of the game, having Las Vegas sphere time and all that.
>>155570815

It really is amazing how ignorant the X-Men fandom is of anything else outside of their bubble and yet they have the nerve to talk about anything else, it's like the 90s never ended for them. It might surprise you, they way nhumans were handled in that event, were part of that disappointment
>>
>>155559300
The whole era was retarded. Somehow, mutants are feared and loathed, but guys who randomly get not only powers from a giant fart cloud, and eldritch-horror tier body horror mutations (if they even manage to wake out of the cocoon) was not only accepted by marvel citizens, but also celebrated, as if some celebrity arrived. It all felt surreal. I believe in the theory that marvel staff was sabotaging the effort behind the scenes
>>
>>155571167
>It really is amazing how ignorant the X-Men fandom is of anything else outside of their bubble and yet they have the nerve to talk about anything else
X-Men is basically 60% of marvel lore. To fully comprehend the x-books, you not only need to know about Celestials, Thanos, Namor, Captain Britain, among other stuff, in many ways, the character interwine with Avengers, Defenders, and even FF. In many ways, Spider-Man was one of the few mutant-less books for years. If anything, and that's interesting on its own, many mutants that Spider-Man interacted with were usually victims of angry mob, and outsiders of their own, like Gibbon. Unlike majority of marvel franchises, Spider-Man doesn't have many mutant villains.

I liken it to how the world views the US as vaguely aware of how intertwined Europe is with the rest of the world but still only remembers it as "Britain, France, and everywhere else that's Europe". A lot of people know of the X-men, and thanks to writers like Chris Claremont they definitely got around and became heavily involved with the other marvel properties, that's indisputable. But in that same vein, not everything they touch immediately turns into a property of the X-men. Despite having some of the X-men joining up with Excalibur, Brian Braddock and Pete Wisdom weren't ever officially a part of the X-men. Likewise, despite Namor giving them his support during their Utopia era he was never part of the X-men officially. And yet, according to the fandom, these interactions mean that they X-men "own" those characters. It doesn't matter if Beast and Iceman were part of the Defenders nor if Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were part of the Avengers, they're X-men and not Defenders/Avengers and how dare you imply otherwise you filthy chuds. Hell, it reminds me how the X-men books present the X-men as basically self-elected representatives of the mutant population despite having nothing that actually supports that self-appointed position beyond nobody wanting the job as evidenced by guys like Gibbon, Whirlwind, and the mutant members of the Serpent Society continuing to just do their own thing independently.

Though really, fandoms have gotten strangely tribal and pointlessly possessive over characters over the years. Like I don't think anyone used to give a shit if say Medusa or She-Hulk were part of the Fantastic Four, it just kind of happened.

I don't get why people read Marvel.

They got what they deserved. What Wanda did the Black Bolt in the movies alone has ruined the character in the eyes of millions forever.

Mutants won.

The Inhumans are bad because Marvel's executive wanted to screw the X-men with the with the mist after the Multiverse restarted?

That's what X-men fans genuinely believe. Although considering that they basically copied the inhuman mutant-killing fart cloud for their current storyline, I guess it's not bad if the X-men offices are doing it.

>that they basically copied the inhuman mutant-killing fart cloud for their current storyline,
The only things I usually keep up to with the X-Men or what Kamala is doing and Deadpool. What do you mean they basically copy in the Mist now?

TL;DR Doug Ramsay goes crazy and unleashes a viral mutagenic agent in Philedelphia designed to not only permanently terraform the environment to be completely inhospitable and lethal to flatscans but also turn any survivors into mutants (and not spoken aloud, alter or exacerbate the mutations of current existing X-gene mutants) as part of his attempts to create yet ANOTHER mutant nation on Earth where he's the founder, despot and mutant messiah, a plan fully depicted through the alternate bad-end timeline book of Age of Revelation, and is currently going to be the focus point of the new DNX crossover event that's also going to drag the Fantastic Four into this shit.

Fundamentally, it's the inhuman fart cloud all over again except a large enough chunk of the X-men are understandably not into permanently wrecking the environment and/or causing their own mutations to grow haywire just cause SOME of them can't get the fuck over Krakoa already.
>>
>>155575258
Who Doug Ramsay?

Also the majority of the Inhumans were not crazy about the mist being forced to going around killing people to do so despite what happened in the one comic in the alternate timeline and they did need the Mist in order to make new and Inhumans at that point and they could not have simply abandoned it and had new Inhumans without it by way of the plot was making it that way at the time.
>>
>>155575300
My bad, Doug Ramsey. That one mutant whose ability was just that he could talk and that he was best friends with a robot alien.

And I know. Arguably the Inhumans weren't the antagonists of that crossover, considering how they poured a lot of their resources into trying to save mutants from the fart cloud's path thanks to Black Bolt's fuck up, and Medusa was the one who ultimately blew up the cloud and ultimately potentially killed off the Inhumans as a species in order to save the planet and the X-men. But conceptually, I consider the level of danger the same, since the real threat of the viral agent/gas agent wasn't solely in how lethal they were to particular kinds of humans but in how they had a serious risk of permanently entrenching themselves into the general biosphere/atmosphere if not contained and thus potentially spelling the permanent end of humanity/mutants.

Granted, they're also the same cause they're goddamn stupid ideas, but details.

>Though really, fandoms have gotten strangely tribal and pointlessly possessive over characters over the years.
Provide a few examples other than the X-Men. I can't recall any other fandom as possessive and arrogantly entitled that feel like anything that so much as brushes against their leg is theirs or that everything else should be irrelevant or subservient.
>>
>>155575764
Can't think of any on the level of the X-men, that's true. Apocryphally, I've seen Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy comic fans get weird over this stuff. I'd have counted the Spider-Man fandom and Batman fandoms if the amount of guys who wanted to shove everything under the Spider-Man/Batman umbrellas weren't near-equally matched by the guys who want more than anything to have their cast bloat obliterated.

Holy shit are you so stupid you thought I was implying they were made recently? Your confidence despite being so stupid is what you'd see from single digit IQ idiot characters on a sitcom. I was talking about why they were seen as a replacement for mutants. That's what this fucking thread is about. Look at the OP. No shit they were made decades ago. Plenty of races and groups were created by writers for various reasons. Now that I know what you meant with your question, it's even more stupid.

>Spider-Man, the X-Men aren't even a blip to him, and the Avengers was also the team responsible for the MCU's success. Even the X-Men's golden boy, Wolverine, has been getting a lot of negativity around his 300+ million dollar boondoggle. Sony and Insomniac haven't even published official numbers citing how proud they are of its sales like they did with the Spider-Man games, that's very telling that something is off and they advertised the absolute shit out of the game, having Las Vegas sphere time and all that.

mate we are talking about comicbooks here, you know stuff from late 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s when your precious dissney stuff didn't exited.

I don't know if it's a troll farming (you)'s by pissing people off or a legitimate X-Men hater. Maybe both. Someone in this thread will take any opportunity to shit on mutants, even if it means ignoring what everyone else knows and propping up the Inhumans.

You people actually sincerely believe Disney purchased Fox's entire IP library just to get their hands on the movie rights to X-Men, a property whose movies weren't performing as well as the superhero properties they already had? You people are insane. They didn't spend all that money just for X-Men or FF.

People have addressed this repeatedly, the Inhumans were good at PR and dealing with the media and authorities, didn't have terrorists and villains attacking humans, and weren't proclaiming themselves the superior master race that's here to replace you. Contrast that with the mutants constantly doing the opposite of all that.

>I believe in the theory that marvel staff was sabotaging the effort behind the scenes
Imagine being a work for hire freelance comic book writer, picked by a Marvel editor to write a book, and deliberately sabotaging that book and trying to get it cancelled because you're such an X-Men fanboy that you're chimping out about Marvel de-pushing the X-Men and pushing other characters instead, including the characters you've been hired to write.

Imagine deliberately tanking a book you're working on, getting it cancelled, and forever attaching your name to a flop title, not knowing if or when you'll get offered more work.

You're imagining a world where comic book writers love the X-Men more than they love having food on their tables and roofs over their heads.

Adding onto that, they actually did get a huge blowback from most of the world over, and not just from the people who were being unwillingly mutated by the terrigen mists into nu-inhumans. Most of the heroes were pissed at the Inhumans for Blackbolt blowing up the Inhuman city over New York and then unleashing the mists to begin with, the general public who would otherwise be indifferent were protesting the Inhumans because those who got mutated had an equal chance of either dying inside their cocoons or mutating into rabid beasts, and the genuine racists actually caged and tried to stone several of the nu-Inhumans with how badly they got cheesed off. The idea that the world just accepted the Inhumans with open arms is revisionist nonsense, everyone was rightfully calling them out on allowing such a disaster to happen in the first place and the Inhumans were basically doing a worldwide apology tour during the events of Inhumans vs X-men.

There were multiple reasons to buy Fox. Besides the X-Men/FF movie rights, Fox owned Star Wars Episode 4 and all home media rights, which put a huge spanner in Disney's ability to market and sell the original trilogy
