>>155568475Interestingly enough, Aaron Archer has said Hasbro internally had been wanting to get back to vehicles and basics since 2000 after they dissolved Kenner. It's just that they weren't considering going straight G1 just yet. Transtech was developed during Beast Machines though and has that initial push to a red truck Optimus that's Prime, not Primal again,and the factions being Autobots and Decepticons. The main thing is that BM failing and RID doing very well from the jump meant they brought things back to somewhat modern Earth(Armada was meant to take place in 2010 but this is rarely stated anywhere and isn't in the show. But it's why tech is slightly futuristicHasbro probably didn't even have Beast Machines style guides considering they still barely keep reference materials internally now. Probably just some promo pics from Mainframe.
The sad thing is that TF fans really aren't that adventurous. A lot of people would be ok with Season 1/2 of the TF cartoon in perpetuity forever. Hell if anything we've sort of regressed in some ways since the defining image of the G1 characters stopped being the more detailed 2000's art in favor of G1 cartoon accuracy. We probably won't see the G1 characters updated to modern vehicles like early IDW and Classics did for a while.

A lot of the conceptual art for it was done by Junichi Akutsu, who works on a lot of mecha like Gundam. The problem is something was lost in translation to CGI and mainframe went for a more human/beast hybrid look to the robot mode faces which ended up uncanny.
Beast Machines season 2 is the creative peak of the entire franchise.
