>In less than 10 years, Buzz Lightyear will be as old as Sheriff Woody>Considering how popular he was back in 1995, original Buzz toys from the 90's might be sought-after, valuable collector's items>Al eventually gives up on finding Woody's Roundup dolls and spends his elderly life collecting now-vintage figures from Buzz's show. (Mira, XR, Booster, Zurg, Warp)
I totally get the corporate meddling reason as to why BLoSC material never made it into the films but what was the in-universe reason as to why Andy only received Buzz considering he was obsessed with him and his show? He simply didn't care for the other characters? His mom drew a line and didn't want to spoil him? Both of those seem implausible.
>>155577340It's implausible he had a favorite? He never acted like a brand-hooked kid; he used a punch of different toys to create scenearios in his imagination, including Bo Peep who wasn't actually a toy.
>>155576885Except , per the story in 1995 there weren't enough buzz lightyears. Them by toy story 3 they made.too many and the craze was over. Buzzes are a dime a dozen.
>>155577340The original conception of the show was that it was a 1 dimensional cliche that ripped off starwars. There might not have been other characters in the original concept.
I always thought Buzz was like ROM The Spaceknight: designed as a toy first and then the backstory came later. Buzz's lore is a flimsy Star Wars rip-off condensed into a paragraph on the back of his box, but he has a badass commercial and several play features. Zurg comes a few years later along with a new version of Buzz (TS2), and finally the lore gets fully fleshed out in-universe after the events of TS2 when the Star Command show/movie comes along.
>>155576885since the buzz drone exists i assume the lightyear brand is going strong
>>155577382Yes, it is. Andy was obsessed with Buzz to the point where he had his whole room decorated in his merchandise and has watched the show itself. And just because he has a favorite doesn't mean that he has no love for the other characters and wouldn't be tempted to have his complete crew at his side during play sessions.
>>155577340they did make a tie-in comic where Andy gets a Booster toy but iirc Pixar didn't like it so they made them get rid of him in later issues
>>155577340Anon he was a kidKid's have their favorite toys. My favorite was a plushy happy face toy for years I think I still have him in my parents house in one of the closets
>>155577806Pixar just flat out hates everything related to Star Command and refuses to acknowledge it any capacity iirc.
>>155578165it's weird that they'd police this considering they'd hate the comic anyway, they should have let them have this one
>>155578165It was too campy and zany. They should have actually tried to make a show that took itself seriously.
>>155577962Sorry anon, I just find the idea that Andy loved Buzz, loved his Buzz Lightyear-themed bedsheets, loved his Buzz Lightyear-themed posters, loved his Buzz Lightyear-themed lunchbox, loved watching the show, loved the three little green aliens who were also characters added into the show, but finally decided that he was satisfied and had no inkling to add Mira, XR, Booster, or Zurg to his collection. You introduce a kid to DC, Marvel, Star Wars, Mario, Sonic, Pokémon, or whatever, he isn't going to be satisfied solely with his one favorite character after having a big interest in everything else the IP in question has to offer.
>>155578558I had a bunch of DBZ posters and toy figures and shit as a kid. Shirts too.Kids get obsessed
>>155577340>>155577806lmao I forgot one of the cadets was named Booster.I see it as a "no one likes Booster" thing like Jingle all the Way. Yeah the other toys exist but the characters just aren't cool to kids. I like the characters in the show but it's a fat alien, a midget robot and a girl. Those wouldn't be that popular with kids. Well Mira would but a boy wouldn't admit it.
