He's a crafty adrenaline junkie, of course he's going to use it again in an impromptu way to get himself out of a bind. Probably used it before a bunch of times. If anything it's good character writing.

Or how it could be shown a third time in Hal's flashback episode, maybe how he learned it. Wouldn't be surprised if his father showed him it in a unintentionally traumatic way. But I don't know so I won't claim to. But it's really clear when someone goes into something wanting to be negative. The show has issues. Mainly it's budget making some scenes feel really devoid of life when they shouldn't. But it also has great positives, mainly characterization. I genuinely hope one day you're not such a miserable bastard that you don't have to be negative purely for the catharsis of it.
