Dun dun dunduuuuuundun dun dun duuuuuun
>>155579134its such a bizarre intro
>>155579134I only realized this fucking year Alex Ross did the intro
>>155579134intros rankedbeyond > btas > JLU > JL > stas > tnba
>>155579185Someone once described DC as being more mythical than Marvel. I think the entire intro: the music, the silhouette slowly walking forward, and the old CGI capture that feeling, in my opinion.
I did not like this intro as a kid, and I think it partially drove me to not watching it. It was slow, boring, and stuffy. When I heard the JLU one, I was instantly on-board, and happily watched the original Justice League afterward.
>>155579185it's so close to timelessly memorable, but the laughably stiff, outdated-at-the-time CGI really did it no favors.>>155579243well the music and character direction sure do. yeah, DC is much more 'this is your new pantheon of heroes of old' and marvel is more grounded, how real people would deal with that shit. they feel a lot less like gods and more like just people who blundered into responsibility.
>>155579267I could see that. I was a newly-minted grown-ass man when this came out, but for a kid, yeah. Curious what you thought of the Batman Superman Adventures theme, which I always thought was A) really good and B) a surprising thing to do for what is literally a repackaging of two existing shows.
>>155579267kinda reminds me of 90s iron man. the goofy-as-fuck He-Man-esque season 1 still had a pretty great 'saturday morning action show' theme song, but then season 2 ramped it up WAY harder and is more memorable.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=petzGfv4ctw
>>155579907Maybe that's why the masses prefer Marvel. Not to turn this into a Marvel vs DC thread--I personally don't care because to me it's all just western comics--but I've seen Anons say/debate about how Marvel has better characters.>>155579267Yeah, the guitar riffs are hype
>>155580055yeah, the masses used to prefer icons, people who gave them faith in authorities. but over time they shifted toward wanting something more relatable. We're all very self-focused now, everyone's a follower yet everyone hates leaders.
>>155579134Kino intro
JLU guitar riff version is the better of the two
>>155580144I just wish it had a different ending theme. Not that I didn't wanna hear it again, but A) I miss ending themes, and B) because it was now a half-hour show, you felt like you heard it twice as much
>>155579185>Some of the most Iconic super heroes ever (Also John Stewart and Hawkgirl)>Big mythic sounding bombast intro that highlight iconographyMakes sense to me
>>155579134The horn swell when The Flash comes running on is fucking KINO and gets my 'tism a tremblin'
>>155579907DC are personified archetypes of powers the ideals that represent them. Marvel is often seen as edgelord slop for manchildren who never grew up trying to be a Supermen, or Batman. Pantheons of righteousness with good intentions. Same as with Marvel with Spiderman or Ironman. Physically gifted but stuck doing dead end wage work, or nepotistic affluence but at the cost of civilized society.
>>155580274pretty sure tism is when you DON'T like thatalso yes, great hornery.>>155580285it sounds like you agree
>>155579242You forgot the Adventures of Batman & Robin. I know of technically B:tAS but they did a different into for those episodes
I remember it really bothering me when they twisted themselves into knots to avoid showing the team in their civilian identities the first season to the point where fans were asking if Flash was Barry or Wally, the season finale where they have to be themselves for a while was kind of a relief.
>>155580294>it sounds like you agreeI agree it is just team sports yes. Like whatever the fuck you want. Nintendo or Sega? Which ever I have, and YOU dont.
>>155579242Mind is:Batman: the Animated Series > Batman Beyond > Superman: the Animated Series > Justice League > The Adventures of Batman and Robin > The New Batman Adventures > Justice League Unlimited > The Zeta Project 2 > Static Shock 3 > The Zeta Project 1 > Static Shock 2 > Static Shock 1
>>155580487>Batman: the Animated SeriesBtAS will always be the best because it doesn't even have to show the title, you already know what it is, major big dick energy.
>>155580109part of it is consistency. DC heroes, when they go off the deep end morally, it's treated as like a bizarre event that had like fifty factors around it and would never normally happen. Marvel heroes doing the same is honestly every other week they have a moral crisis that makes them sperg out.
>>155580384well I was speaking more to how the overall zeitgeist has moved toward iconoclasmthere's a reason normies are obsessed with 'what if superman but evil' but not a single one is like 'what if spider-man but only powerful, no responsibility'>>155580329oh yeah, and it was a pretty nice adaptation of the Mask of the Phantasm theme.
>>155579916NTA but I watched it as a 7 year old and loved it. Never caught Batman & Superman Adventures as a kid so was unfamiliar with the intro but just watched it and it was great. I might even put it as second best above Batman Beyond.
>>155580285Then why does DC contain so much more rape and addiction and torture and depravity?
>>155580335I thought it was always obvious he was wally, the question is was it wally or barry that Superman raced>>155580532it's one of those things where, when it pops into my head, I'm like "oh yeah, that was the Superman theme, right? wait, no, it was the justice league theme. No, wait..." it just fits so well as what it isIt's kinda like the Smash Bros soundtracks, where they seamlessly blend a bunch of other games' musical influence, a bit of Star Fox gravitas here, a bit of Metal Gear excitement there.. it's super plagiarized in the best way.oh, or like when Weird Al does an original song in the style of someone else.
>>155580526>Marvel heroes doing the same is honestly every other week they have a moral crisis that makes them sperg out.I can't even read X-Men anymore, Krakoa fractured them completely from Xavier's dream of equality. Only way to fix them at this point would be a Crisis-style retcon.
>>155580535gee, why would the thing with basically the mood of old greek heroic tales have a bunch of rape, torture, and depravity?
>>155580543I'd like to think it was the same Flash, and believe that was the intention, but I'd say he raced Barry. Not only does he act different from JL Flash but his design is off of you compare them. I know it's probably just that they slimmed up his design but I also have a feeling they were going for Barry when they made the episode. The real question is what happened to Kyle between In Brightest Day... and Secret Origins?
>>155580552The answer for both is the same, surprisingly.
>>155580530>what if Spider-Man but powerful and no responsibility his name is Chasm, anon.if you mean there are no Marvel pastiches beyond "cool dude concept", I think because there's nothing else to explore. They already have built-in moral ambiguity, and there's else nothing to say outside of what Ultimate 1610/Ultimate 6160/In-Verse/What Ifs have already done. Meanwhile Elseworlds don't really do the "what if this dude was fucked up!" That's why Absolute is taking off because it's such an absurd departure for DC to actually play with the character archetypes in any way outside of the norm that isn't for a gimmick event. Dark Knights was closer to "multiverse boogeymen variants" than what The Boys tried to do.
>>155580578>I know it's probably just that they slimmed up his design but I also have a feeling they were going for Barry when they made the episode.I'm pretty sure Bruce Timm confirmed in an interview that StAS Flash was Barry, I'll have to check my copy of his Modern Masters book.
>>155580585What?>>155580578yeah he was a bit more tan in that episode, tooyou wanna know what's fucking bizarro starro guitarro? All those years I watched STAS and BTAS fervently, I NEVER saw the Aquaman episode until LONG after JL came out. I was just like reading in a wiki and I'm like what the actual fuck? How does that happen? Syndication, you failed me. I watched every episode over and over...I also only saw that one BTAS episode introducing Talia back when it was originally on, when I finally saw it in rewatches in like 2017 I'm like "ohhhh yeahhhh, this one"
>>155580607bruce timm confirms a lotta things
>>155580535Mostly? Dan Didio.
>>155580551Equality was never realistically going to be a thing that made sense. The expectation to accomodate them all as part of regular society is mildly unreasonable given how individually different they all are and the extent of that variety, because having goopy-type mutant-friendly escalators is more of a hassle than trans bathrooms. It's been an interesting plot for decades precisely because there's no easy answer, and now with Krakoa they have finally explored all major answers. So integrated mutants has irreconcilable problems, separate mutant society has irreconcilable problems, holocausting mutants *works* but is immoral. Even an opt-in separate mutant society has problems because it just leaves mutants who don't choose to opt in even more vulnerable to persecution, which will get worse any time wherever-the-fuck does something the rest of the world disagrees with. No form of the dream is viable so they ultimately just have to bide out day by day.
>>155580601>his name is Chasm, anon.Shut up nerd we don't talk about Chasm here. And that was Kaine's tagline first
>>155580644if only the mutants had, from the start, said how they are 'a blessing and a curse' and made it their duty to study mutation so they could cure it on the unlucky or unworthyyou can still have deep plots about 'who put you in charge?' and you'd make metaphors bout yknow, how whoever's causing problems in society, it's their own people who should be policing each other but aren't...because curing mutancy was always the only logical thing. first every single bad one, then, once they are gone, the good ones, if they want.Static Shock fucking nailed that.
>>155580601>nothing else to exploreis my point. for a modern audience, at least.>>155580650fuck this shit, keep Kaine as he was.
>>155580650I mean the point stands that Marvel already does its own The Boys/Irredeemable/Invincible regularly enough.
>>155580687But humanity latently carries the necessary info for the X-Gene in their genome anyway. Like the point behind the X-Virus in DNX is to force the latent strands in regular humies to fully sync and activate epigenetically. Cures aren't viable at scale unless you cure the human genome in Marvel at baseline.
>>155580746yeah well neither is cancer but we're gonna trythose fucking celestials really did a number on the genome didn't they.. in any case, there's like 19 working mutancy cures. The collars alone...
>>155579134Has anyone tried editing a JLU -style intro for a JL episode?
>>155580977that would be pretty easy, wouldn't it. they just used clips from the ep..If this was like, old syndication days, the chances are good they would have just done that. Like how every syndicated Garfield and Friends had the... I wanna say third intro theme out of six total?
>>155579134Its only now that I'm realizing that the figures at the begging were also 3d models
>>155580601> his name is ChasmThat doesn't really count because that's a character from Spider-Man. It's just guys Ultraman vs something like Brightburn, The Plutonian, etc. If you were going to count those I'd say Venom is a better example.> there's nothing else to explore. That's just ridiculous. If nothing else Batman Beyond and Spider-Noir both show his you can have a lot of fun playing with Spider-Man in particular. I'm sure there's a lot you could do with others, as well. Heck, Venture Bros did a great little riff on FF.> They already have built-in moral ambiguityYou're just being asinine > Meanwhile Elseworlds don't really do the "what if this dude was fucked up!" This is bait. You can't be serious. > That's why Absolute blah blah blahI swear Absolute shills are somehow more insufferable than even Paul trolls.
>>155581088you can tell they kinda figured out how bad they looked and tried to polish the turd by hiding them in shadow and keeping them mostly at a distanceit makes it a lot cooler overall, all mysterious. but cel-shaded CG would have worked a lot better.
>>155580535>Then why does DC contain so much more rape and addiction and torture and depravity?Pretty sure Ennis Punisher has more of that than every other Marvel and DC book combined.
>>155580611Every once in awhile syndication just picks a random episode and purposely skips it, either through error or because an exec thinks that kids won't like it or that it's inappropriate or something. I used to notice it a lot with shows that would be rerun a lot that there was normally one they would skip so continuously that it had to be purposeful. The only examples that come to mind off hand are the episodes of B:tAS Batman in My Basement and the one with the boat casino as well as the episodes of Dragon Ball Z with Frieza's third form and the brown Majin Buu.
>>155581129That would also explain why I never saw the Transmutate episode of Beast Wars til like 2007
>>155580551>>155580644The only thing they can really do is either scale back that talking point and stop trying to make them a 1:1 minority expy and/or just rework mutants to be scaled down and keep an editorial guardrail on the type of mutations and how powerful they can be. It's fun to be the one edgy guy who goes: "Oh, this guy is a liquid and in constant pain!" or "this kid causes nuclear explosions!" but those are typically story breakers, at least for long running serials that are going to pass though multiple different writers and artists. The reason they usually don't go for those isn't because of a lack of imagination, but because it doesn't work within the story. The mutations shouldn't ever be that dangerous or debilitating. Even someone like Rogue should be able to control her powers to a certain degree, but have it be something like maybe she can make out with her boyfriend, but it's like she's sucking in her gut the whole time so eventually she has to relax and wear protective garments again as her defacto. You can still have people raise a fit about someone like Cyclops, but you can make the argument that anyone could technically buy a firearm or make a bomb if that want to be dangerous and since he's an upstanding citizen that can use an apparatus to control his power there's no reason to not treat him like anyone else unless he misuses it. Then you have people like Beast where the argument is that they just look weird. It straddles the line more where they are powerful, but not enough that you couldn't work with them.Ultimately, I think X-Men should just be in their own universe if they want to do the oppression storyline because it really doesn't make sense to discriminate against mutants for having superpowers when the Avengers exist. Otherwise just let them be a group of weirdos that were brought together to be vigilantes by a similar individual who had beef with another mutant that has his own group he put together.
>>155580746The X-gene isn't a real thing that needs to be depicted in a certain way to be accurate. It can be retconed to work in whatever way is the most convenient for the plot
>>155581135Oh another one from Dragon Ball Z (that one had a lot) is the episode where the Saiyan's arrive and eliminate East City. I wish I had more Western examples but I'm drawing a blank
>>155581232the fuck is this sanity you're spouting, anon. don't you know we're all mad here?
>>155579243My native Half-Brother, 6 years my senior, wouldn't shut up about how this was the Hulk, I couldn't convince him at all that it's just stylized GL
>>155579242Beyond>stas>btas>restHonestly the end/credits theme of btasSound much better then the intro
dundundun dunn dunn duunDUNDUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUNDOODOOO DOOOOOOOO DOODOOO DOOOOOOO!DO DO DO DO DODODODODO! Timm or Dinni in one of the commentaries mentioned that a good Superman theme needs to sing Superman. The John Williams theme got it. TAS got it.
There was always something about Justice League that felt special. We had super hero shows before. We had team shows before. But this had gravitas.
