Interesting... it's fairly similar to the start of the first story arc, but O'Donnell punched it up a bit. I might have to find a scan of the comic strip and do a compare/contrast

As you can see, Willie gets brought in in a less exciting manner and Tarrant gets Modesty in with a less dramatic gesture (while still playing on her moral code of always paying her debts). Oh, and Fraser is much more of a nebbish little bureaucrat (it would take a while before O'Donnell would make him a secret badass).

All in all, close enough to the original without just retreading everything.

I was vaguely aware that there were Modesty Blaise novels (iirc there's a character from one of these who ended up in the comic as a semi-regular) so it's cool to see one in the wild.
