Teen humor comics were a big part of the comics industry from the 40s to the 70s, with Archie Comics eventually being the only one to survive past that. Do you read teen humor comics? What are your favorites?

>>155599521Classic Archie stories don't have continuity and are almost entirely 6-page (or 5-page) humor stories, so any issue is a jumping-on point.The late '50s/early '60s are possibly the most revered era for the comics with Dan DeCarlo on "Betty and Veronica," Harry Lucey drawing "Archie" and Samm Schwartz drawing "Jughead." Those are the three flagship titles.By 1965 the quality gets more uneven, but for the most part the Big Three titles continue to be good into the '70s (except for a few years in the 1960s when Samm Schwartz left to join Tower Comics, but he came back and made "Jughead" probably their best title in the 70s and 80s).Basically "Jughead" is usually the funniest, "Betty and Veronica" under DeCarlo has what we think of as the classic Archie look and sex appeal, and "Archie" is great until Harry Lucey has to retire.

Timely/Marvel's humor titles are not up to the best of Archie (they give the best indication of what kind of writer Stan Lee was, a good but not great writer of comedy stories, not on par with Archie's Frank Doyle) but generally had good art.Stan Lee had Dan DeCarlo on Millie the Model where he developed his unique style, and Al Hartley on Patsy Walker. Both men (and Stan Goldberg, the utility guy) did more and more work for Archie as Marvel went more and more to superheroes.
