New shelf thread
1 of 2
2 of 2. Not my entire collection, I got a big stack of shit in my end table.
I just finished reading the Fourth World Absolutes, it was my first time reading them.Frankly I'm not sure why they were called "Unfinished", it felt like all four series in it wrapped up fairly well.>The Newsboy gang and Jimmy make it back to metropolis>The Forever people have a new dimension to roam, safe from Darkseid>Mister Miracle and Big Barda marry, move on from spectable acts>Orion and Darkseid have a huge clash on Apokolips, New Genesis has a new future, Orion rescues his motherI enjoyed it, granted I'm a huge newbie to superhero comics.
>>155641681envious of your sentinels live
>>155641782The stuff that "ends" new gods was written years and years later. A lot of people dislike it because it's obviously written by an older and somewhat more bitter Kirby, and kind of clashes with the tone of the original (to a point. New Gods is a little dark.) What did you think of the series overall? I found that it didn't really live up to the ideas that he obviously had, and the back half of a Jimmy Olsen was fucking trash.
>>155641681Meager, but its what I got. Absolutely love Hush. I would like to get the Hellboy series one day. How did you like Knightquest? I have never heard of it.
>>155641766Nice. Outside a few Finests and Epics I limit myself purely to Conan and Superman these days.
>>155642057I only want to get one more Conan omni, to finish the Roy Thomas run, but I do want to get all the triangle omnis (it'll be ten at the rate they're going.) I'm too broke to get three right now though.Kinda hate omnis, and I wish the Conan ones didn't have so much back matter in them.
>>155641895You are the first and only person I've ever seen say they love Hush. Good on you, I guess, different strokes and all that.
>>155642358>I only want to get one more Conan omni,Heh. I said that like four omnis ago. But yeah, I'm probably in for the long hall. I intend to keep getting Triangle for as long as I can. Though goddamn was three expensive. Even with the DM discount it was like a 100 bucks. I really wish they just skipped the Death and Return stuff. Not only do I already have that in other formats but it would have probably either made for a cheaper book or we'd be further ahead.
>>155642369They had no fucking choice but to include the Death and Return trilogy.Faggots like you who already own that omnibus isn't the fucking audience for the Triangle era omnibus. They don't give a shit about you. The Triangle omnibuses are for people who want EVERY FUCKING THING from this era in those trades and if they leave something out, then they will stop buying the omnibuses and the backlash will render the line radioactive and it will never get a fourth trade and the run will end up like the Loeb/Kelly/Cast run unfinished because no one wants to buy a $100+ a pop line if they are going to pander to casual loser scum non fans like you.
>>155642499They have a Death and Return omnibus. They're still selling the death and return omnibus.
>>155642369Like >>155642499 said. The Triangle omnibuses are not for cheapskate casuals like you. If you can't afford or willing to double dip, you can fuck off
>>155642514>Be a good consumer slut
This is what I've got this month. The Jimenez book had a weird history. I think I pre-ordered it in like June last year, it was supposed to be out in August. Then it was delayed to October. Then December. Then... it just wasn't updated at all. And then over a year late it actually was produced. No idea what happened there. The others are TPs. I haven't just bought a random TP in a long time, so got these for no reason other than they looked interesting and I'd been looking at Francis Manapul's art on insta and youtube. Haven't read them yet, they might be shit, who knows.
>>155642361>You are the first and only person I've ever seen say they love Hush. What is this madness.
>>155642749Hush was stupid
>>155642765So's your face. But when people talk about top 10 Batman stories or books that new readers should start with Hush is nearly always there, along with the other usuals like The Long Halloween, Year One, Dark Victory, Killing Joke, Dark Knight Returns etc etc.I can only assume that saying "you are the first and only person I've ever seen say they love Hush" means that you've never spoken to another person before. Or, you know, the other thing. You're full of it.
>>155642823>But when people talk about top 10 Batman storieYou have never once expressed an individual thought or opinion in your life.
>>155642831So, if it's not an "individual thought" you were lying, the majority opinion must be that it's good. LOL what a faggot.
>>155642862Hush, little baby, don't say a word.
Hush is astroturfed to hell and back and the utter failure of Hush 2 and the rumors that DC editorial threatened a coup if Jim Lee didn't finish it (as Lee was going to leave the whole thing unfinished because it flopped) killed any claims it was good.
>>155643192It's a moronic Scooby Doo mystery that basically just rides on Jim Lee's art.
>>155643200Saying you don't like it or it's overrated is fine. That's an opinion. Saying you've never heard of anyone liking it is absolute nonsense. And you expose yourself as a bullshit artist whose words mean nothing.
>>155641766Is it worth getting Triangle omnis 2 & 3 if I already have the Death and Return omni?
Some sucker was selling their copy of the Complete Starchild for 60 dollarydoos and I nabbed it
>>155643393>It's like Shakespeare>But with lot's more punching
>>155641681/co/, my lcs is selling a deluxe edition of LOSH The Great Darkness Saga and The Curse.I have enough money to buy only one, which do you think is the better book?I know The Curse is the aftermath of The Great Darkness but I still want to know you thoughts.Have a Baby Link.
>>155644086The Great Darkness Saga.
>>155641895I really like the cloth(?) spine of JLA Earth Two. I have never seen it before.
>>155643231>>155642823You are being awfully defensive for someone who obviously hasn't read very many comics.Hush is widely viewed as garbage, like everything Loeb has written after his kid died and he went crazy. Just about everyone agrees that the art is good or even great but the story is mocked a lot by a lot of people.I actually don't hate Hush because I think the idea of having a whos-who of Batman's greatest villains is a good concept for a 'summer blockbuster' style story in which you ignore the plot to focus on the action. Even with that charitable interpretation I still wouldn't say I 'love' it because Hush is fundamentally a shitty story. I have also never seen a single person say that they loved Hush or that it would make a list of top X Batman stories. The faggots on instagram and tiktok are not actual comic fans and their recommendations are exclusively absurdly well known classics (Year One, TDKR, Killing Joke, Long Halloween/Dark Victory) that are kept in evergreen print or else they are modern lowest common denominator garbage (Tom King's run, Snyder's run, Hush, Absolute Batman, Dark Patterns). If anyone ever says TDKR or TKJ are good places to start for new Batman readers you can safely disregard everything else they have to say because they are retarded posers who used Google or ChatGPT to form their 'opinions'.
>>155644086They're putting that run in omnibus format so why not wait for that?
>>155644475>The faggots on instagram and tiktok are not actual comic fansLOL give it up faggot.
>>155644537Dont have anything new besides my 2 finest i just got
>>155644537This is very hard to read. Do you have images of individual shelves?Spectre finest looks cool. Is it any good? I always thought he was a cool character but never took the plunge on any of his actual solo series.
>>155643387No idea, I don't know what's in death and return.
>>155644537Ahh, so much empty space. So much potential...
My /shelf/ is in complete disarray because I'm in the middle of rearranging furniture and selling shit I don't need on ebay. Have what I bought this month instead.I also finally got more mylars to rebag all the shit I bought off ebay over the summer.>inb4 like the last thread "why would you do that are you autistic?"Mold. It's because of mold. I grew up in a house with mold. You do not want to invite mold into your home
>>155642361Yeah the art is good and I like when Batman leans more into the "Detective" part of "Detective Comics" instead of being a ninja in a bat costume. >>155644430Tried to catch it right in the light. It is sort of like if you took a thin cloth and painted it with white wall paint. It looks nice, they did a good job with it.
>>155644563Maybe later, im sick rn so I just took a quick pic, havent read anything of the finest yet
>>155643231>>155642361 hereI have never heard of an individual who said they loved Hush. Is it on lists and shit? Probably. But I have never heard an actual, singular, individual person say that they "love" the book. I've heard people say they love the other fodder for those lists, your year ones and dkrs and killing jokes. I have never, in my 38 years on this earth, heard someone, an actual person, not a person payed to make content, say that they love Hush.
>>155644612So how's the new Concrete?
>>155644563Nta but yes. Spectre solo series are pretty much always at least good.
>>155643393big upps for joe i need to pick it up when it goes on sale
>>155644195Thanks.>>155644497I didn't know about that. But to be honest I hate the build of omnibus, so much gutter loss.
>>155644723Got to say, for a book that big it reads incredibly quickly (partly because you can't put it down) and I'm in awe that a comic with a flow that smooth existed at the time it did. Literally>thing, West :-/>thing Japan :-)
>>155644616Is that the Deluxe Edition or you custom build it?
>>155641681i am in the process of selling all my physical books and going full digital i just dont have enough space in my apartment and i was unemployed for a long time until recently so the little money i made off selling helped. im sorry guys. maybe if i can ever afford a house one day (highly unlikely) i will start collecting again but until then im a tablet boy nowim also getting more into my home server so even though right now i mostly have movies and tv shows i want to get more storage and eventually will begin getting music and comics/manga. digital is just convenient especially when its free with piracy im sorry
>>155641817Yeah I didn't like the Jimmy Olsen comics either. Pretty much all of them were terrible. Plots were confusing, didn't care for the whole wild area thing, didn't like the newsboy legion themselves. Superman acts like an utter moron in all of these, I'm supossed to believe this is an indestructible super genius? Some dork named Victor Volcanum almost got the upper hand.Mister Miracle was pretty alright. Sometimes the gimmick can be aggressively stupid (why don't they just shoot Mr miracle in the head when he's unconcious from the sleeping gas/shock probe/stun gun?) buuuut I can't recall an outright bad Mister Miracle story.Forever people were pretty good. The later stories were a bit weaker, but the early stories when they're fighting Darkseid's minions are great. Glorious Godfrey was a fantastic villain, I can't believe I haven't seen him in anything else.New Gods was for sure the best story included. I think every single issue was at least solid. Orion is a great protagonist as well. Lightray, Highfather and Metron were also cool but Orion's conflict was the best. Him going nuts during the fight with Slig was the high point.
Here's my Marvel shelf. Some stuff I've had for years and some recent purchases, hidden way on the left is a mighty Marvel masterworks with the earliest Dr Strange stories.
>>155644628I like it but I'm gonna be honest, I started buying it because of the art and I don't know anything about the previous runs. My path to buying new comics is pretty much "open up every new #1, if it doesn't look like generic super hero or tumblr art, flip to a second page. If it looks like the artist has a unique style (that I like), buy it". You would think I'd be buying 20 or so comics a month under those rules, but, alas.I haven't read Murder Hobo or Skate Ali yet, but I bought into those under the same parameters.
>>155644793It is just the normal hardcover of it with the sleeve taken off. I can't stand those paper sleeves around hardcovers, so I remove them. Here is a pic I pulled off of Google that shows the sleeve next to the sleeveless book.
>>155645069Well the old Concrete stuff is really good so I'm hoping Chadwick hasn't lost his touch.
>>155645014>Immortal Hulkmy man. Good stuff. Borrowed those same omnibus from a buddy, great read.
>>155645076Thanks, I might buy that book despite Quitely's potato face characters.
>>155641817>>155644885Oh yeah, and uhhh the Black Racer. What was that guy's deal? What a dumb character. At least he wasn't around long.>Okay so here's the messenger of death for New Gods>But for some reason he wants to take over Willie's body>No, he worked perfectly fine as the Black Racer before he found Willie>No, Willie doesn't have any kind of personality to inject into the Black Racer like Billy Batson as Captain Marvel or Eddie Brick as Venom do>No, it's not a personality transformation like the Hulk Willie can't control it>The Black racer just randomly possesses some vegetable before killing a new godKirby's racism was funny. Vykin the BLACK? Like that had to be his subtitle, in case the printers stopped working and you couldn't discern his skin color? The japanese dude is going to be called motherfucking "Sonny Sumo"?
>>155645076Nice JLA earth 2 book.
>>155645326>Kirby's racismThere's a fine line between being virtuous and being an idiot who pretends to be virtuous and you crossed that line.
>>155644885>Orion is a great protagonist as well. Lightray, Highfather and Metron were also cool but Orion's conflict was the best. Him going nuts during the fight with Slig was the high point.Yeah, I wish there was more of that. That's sort of what I mean when I say that the series implied a much better story than it actually told.
Speaking of Kirby's stuff, is there a reason there's no collection of Captain Victory available right now? I watched a bunch of Tom Scioli videos about it and would love to pop a book on a shelf next to the 4th World books
>>155645688Sounds like there actually might be trouble getting original copies of the art to do a new collection. A full collection was planned in 2007 by image but it was cancelled due to "production issues."
>>155645729Laaaame
>>155645549>Yeah, I wish there was more of that. That's sort of what I mean when I say that the series implied a much better story than it actually told.Yeah, true. The potential is incredible for New Gods specifically. Did any other writers make good follow-up stories, or is that really the best of it? As is I still liked New Gods, pretty fun little romp.
>>155645499Oh anon I ain't virtuous, I'm an asshole. It was still funny to see, "Sonny Sumo" what a title.
>>155645977Walt Simonson's Orion is pretty highly regarded, and the fight between Orion and Darkseid in that series is great
>>155646037It's bad and a poor understanding of New Gods mythos.
>>155646077Well I guess that's that, then.
>>155644671Nice. I always liked him and Phantom Stranger but never knew what to actually read for them. I'll keep the DC Finests in mind and when I get through my backlog I'll probably pick one up.
>>155644563Spectre fucking sucks because they skipped the final three stories from the 70sAdventure Comics run that DC sat on for about two decades, even though that run is the chief selling point of that collection >>155644497Omnibus and Epic collection. That said if you don't want to wait, get Great Darkness Saga deluxe edition
>>155645429I have a copy but still want to get a softcover version simply to store with the rest of my JLA floppies, in its proper chronologic order place (between JLA #4 and #5 as it does not have the walking diseased piece of shit and Herpes that is Plastic Man in it)

Recent pickups for me. Really been enjoying the Mirage Years TMNT collection
>>155646731I need to go buy that TMNT collection today.
>>155646676If you are willing to spend greenies, sureI buy them because its the only format some stories are printed in my country, and I also always buy when theyre on discount
>>155646676I love Absolutes, just get them on eBay. I've gotten plenty of them for cheap.
>>155646784It's an absolute steal for 13.99 desu. I was kind of concerned that the text would be hard to read (a lot of compacts have had this problem), but it feels perfectly scaled up
>>155646784>>155647062Does it have the Cerebus crossover?
>>155647090Yup, it does!
>>155645308His art is great aside from the faces.
>>155647134Cool. Guess I'm finally picking up classic TMNT then
>>155643387I'd still say yes, there's enough material in each so it's not a complete retread but it is annoying
shalf
Bump
Was there ever a compilation/collection of the Beavis and Butthead comics? I've skimmed through a few old single issues, they're funny.
>>155647062Went to my LCS and grabbed it, the dude behind the counter did a double take at the price, lol. These IDW compact comics are a crazy deal, I'm glad they're getting on that bandwagon. I hope that release all the classic TMNT this way.
>>155650253And it's good quality too! I was surprised at the heavy stock for it. Definitely feels premium
>>155650253Are the compact Mirage books just the Eastman/Laird only trades but smaller or are they the first truly comprehensive mirage collection with the fill in stories included alongside the Eastman/Laird stuff?
>>155651181No idea, the first trade has the first 13 issues, and the four one shots about each turtle.
>>1556511812nd volume is missing the Veitch issues. Looks like it has everything else
>>155651181I was kind of disappointed that it doesn't also collect the fugitoid issue. Not a big deal, but pretty much the only thing that reprints it is that expensive ass compendium.
>>155651440It's very annoying that those compendiums are actually omnibuses
The, /shelf/, the!
>>155649676I don't think so, I (>>155644612)was on the hunt for those over the summer and never came across any tpbs. I think the whole "mtv comic" thing was a very short lived experiment and I don't know if anyone owns those rights anymore. It's actually one of the things I need to rebag.
>>155642361This is absurd to say. Despite the anti-loeb contrarianism bred by faggots on Reddit and twitter making you think otherwise hush has always been a beloved entry-level Batman comic. Is it as highly regarded as TLH/WiR/DV or DKR or year one? No. But it’s widely beloved. More so than gaslit “hits” like court of owls.
>>155643231Yeah it’s wildly performative. Dude comes off like some 38 year old who didnt start reading comics until he was in his late 20s and is trying hard to fit in still.
>>155653863>>155653878Hush sucks.
>>155644885>Glorious Godfrey was a fantastic villain, I can't believe I haven't seen him in anything else.Godfrey was used pretty well in Justice League and JLU as a tabloid talk show host mudslinging at the Justice League and other superheroes. I don't know if they ever outright say he's working for Darkseid, but it's a fun "if you know, you know" kind of detail.
>>155654076They had Snapper Carr too
>>155653863>>155653878to be fair I'm not a capeshit enjoyer and I was under the impression people hated hush so that guy might just read other kinds of comics
What's the quality like on the Warlord omnis? It just occurred to me that I should probably snatch them up since it's not the sort of thing I can see being reprinted anytime soon.
>>155641681Most recent pickups are>Fantastic Four Epic Collection Vol 1>Etrigan DC Finest Collection>Superman DC Finest Vol 1>Nemesis the Warlock Vol 1 & 2Been on a Kirby binge lately. Looking to wrap up collecting Nemesis and find a decent collection of Kirby's old Devil Dinosaur.
Why is the meme that omnis are difficult to read? I just lay a pillow in my lap and the book on the pillow and I'm fine.
>>155654156>What's the quality like on the Warlord omnis? It's really nice. They use a different kind of matte paper over the standard glossy that really feels more accurate without being cheap. And it's light as hell.
>>155654198It depends on how beefy they are. Most aren't really so bad. I don't even use a pillow, but there's a few that are just absolute bricks.
>>155654239Is it the same paper they're using in the Taschen XXL Marvel reprints?
>>155654252I couldn't say. I never held one of those.
>>155654239The Kubert Sgt. Rock deluxe is on paper like that, I fell in love with it as soon as I picked it up and held it in my hands. The binding is all good and not too tight? From what I've seen it seems like DC has really turned around their collected editions department in the past few years, but I'm still wary from how bad they used to be.
>>155654361When it first arrived I thought I somehow got an empty box or a wrong order. But yeah, DC's been on fire lately. The Finest line alone has been long over due. I love Marvel Epics but DC's are both longer and cheaper.
>>155654198>I just lay a pillow in my lap and the book on the pillowThat sounds autistic.
>>155653863Oh my god, I already explained this elsewhere in the thread. I have never heard an individual say that they love Hush. It shows up on lists, but whenever it gets brought up, the absolute best I ever hear is "the art is good but the story is bad." It's *exactly* on the level of Court of Owls.
Finally broke down and bought the last of the New Warriors softcover trades. Any chance in hell they'll finally fill in the huge gap (#18-25) in the exist TPBs or at least, start doing Epic Collections?
>>155654650Court of Owls is much better.
>>155641895>The Killing Joke>JLA Earth 2Just my curiosity, why did you remove their dust jackets?
>>155642564I love Manapul and Buchaleto's New 52 Flash run.
>>155644475To be fair, as long as you know that Batman's parents were killed when he was young and know that a clown is his rival then you can read TDKR and TKJ.You may not get the whole picture in the first read but you can still re-read them as you emerge yourself to DC's mythos.
>>155654645Why lol? I'm using a throw pillow on a sofa. You want me to hold that shit for an hour and join all the whiners?
>>155646676No, those are expensive and the glue on the spine always breaks so the signatures fall-off eventually.
>>155654198I don't have the image but I imagine you like that meme drawing of an American-Filipino looking down with a long neck.
>>155656121I don't like the dust jackets on books. I always remove them on hardcovers. The rest of my books on the shelf have them removed too. They just feel weird when handling the books, like the book shifts around under it and the texture is always plastic-ey instead of feeling like a book. I hope I explained that well.
>>155657175I take them off while reading for the same reason but keep them on otherwise
Page 10 is exactly what you deserve.
Anyone read the new Absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths absolute edition?
>>155658430Absolutely not I absolutely did not read any absolute stories about absolute batman or absolute superman or absolute red hood or absolute goo mcgee and you absolutely should not read any absolutes either
>>155657175>>155657212Yeah as a collector I try to keep that stuff. In fact it's crazy to hear anyone in this thread would throw that sort of thing away. But I also feel like I'm going to damage it if I use it for what it's intended for so a lot of the time I just leave them laying around until I finish the book they belong to
Only two more months and my sweet baby will be in my arms
After years of procrastinating I finally got shelves built and placed. And for the first time in maybe 10+ years none of my books are stuck in storage bins.
>>1556589952
>>155658960I totally understand and appreciate the "collector" perspective. I am not one of those. I don't abuse my stuff, but I also don't really care if they get some bumps and such. My books are meant to be read and shared, taken with you in a backpack on a plane (which is why my Killing Joke has damaged corners), and maybe get some marks along the way. I do appreciate those of you that keep floppy single issues in nice plastic sleeves, or keep your books in pristine condition with particular storage techniques, or even use gloves when handling. That absolutely has a place and a purpose, just not on my bookshelf.
>>1556590213I probably should have waited till the books were actually organized together, but I was just so excited to have them all fit on the shelves.
>>155658995Proudly displaying Fletcher Hanks like a chad
>>155659043
>>1556590765
>>155658995>>155659021>>155659043>>155659076>>155659089Goddamn! What a shelf! how much of that have you actually read?
>>155659089And 6 with the floppies and (hopefully not soon) box storage for things that won't fit.Now to procrastinate on alphabetizing for a couple of monthsand maybe hit up a convention for more display art or signed singles.
>>155659110Lovely Goon box. I just ordered the second omnibus of that.
>>155659032I'm not that autistic about it, most of my books have dings and bent corners from travel. They are for reading after all. But I do scream a little inside when I rip or scratch something.
>>155659108used to be I only bought stuff I had pirated and liked, but these days its probably 40-60% stuff I wanted to get around to eventually but haven't. Probably 70+% on the floppies side of things
>>155658430I feel like COIE is one of those events where you only want to read the mainline event comic and all the spinoffs/tie-ins actually take away from the overall event.
>>155659124Thats fair, I get you. I have a buddy who is the way I described, which is why I brought it up. For example, he has his LotR paperbacks for reading and his "display" set that have never been opened. He reads comics on his phone, but owns a ton of single issues he has in plastic and has never touched. I do not borrow books or comics from him, he borrows from me lol
>>155658430I'm more curious about the accompanying book it comes with. I'm pretty content with my deluxe edition of Crisis but I'd like to read that extra.
>>15565915140-60% is probably where I'm at too. What's your favorite comic?
>>155659577Still stick to saying Witch Doctor.I am part of a couple of comic-book clubs IRL so I have had the fortune to have a lot of real great variety of stuff be brought to my attentionKarmen by Guillem MarchThe Leg by Van Jensenlots of Kyle Starks stufflots of Paco Roca stuffrecently loved Batman Dark Patterns which I would have never given a second glance if not for themand on the same end I got to make a bunch of them give Anya's Ghost a chance and they enjoyed it.
dont die
>>155659653You have very interesting taste I have added almost all of those to my wishlist
>>155658995Since you have two Absolute Justice, give the other one to me for safekeeping, fren.
>>155659043Parker! Take a picture in good angle, god damn it!
>>155659202How's Jack Benny these days?
>>155659231I prefer the Deluxe Editions than Absolutes.
>>155662977You only call me fren when you need me.
>>155658430They restored the original coloring for the newest incarnation of Absolute COIE (Perez recolored the entire thing from scratch when it got first got released in 1999 and that was the version all other versions were base on until now). So there is that. And it includes the History of the DC Universe mini in the main book. But the bigger draw is the expanded companion book, which includes all of the Monitor subplot pages leading up to Crisis plus all the new stuff added to the box set version of the companion book and additional shit never before seen from Jerry Ordway's (who oversaw the restoration) personal collection including IIRC a lot of the original artwork being present in the volume that has never been seen before.
For those who've read the Morrison JLA, is Midsummer Nightmare (the lead in mini that reunites the Big Seven) worth reading or can you just skip it?
Assorted pile of recent orders
>>155663403It's a decent story in so far as Nicieza nailing the friend simulator aspect of the Big Seven. But that's about it. The plot is trash and outside seeding plot threads for the Morrison and Waid runs, it sucks and reads more like an X-Men story Nicieza write that Bob Harras rejected that he repurposed for the NLA
>>155664633Never read this story since it gets skipped in JLA collections. What's the plot?
>>155664640A one off villain "Know Man" uses Dr Destiny (factory reset via Zero Hour to he is pre freak form) to warp reality to create a world where everyone but Superman, Batman, Wonder woman, Kyle Rayner, Wally West, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter have powers and the seven are living strictly civilian lives. They "wake up" and restore the world and decide to become the JLA again. It seeds the whole Maggedon story in the Morrison run as Know Man got his powers from the Controllers to give humanity power to fight Mageddon as well as set up the status quo of Dr Destiny when he appears again in JLA #50
>>155662977I got Absolute Justice used on ebay recently for like $58, it's not some rare whale book anon
Got a crazy deal at the local comic shop today. Dark Knight Returns hardcover, only FIVE dollars. I though it was a misprice, like somebody forgot to add a "$1". But no, I asked and they honored it.I already have the absolute edition, but hey christmas is coming. It's a nice white elephant gift.
>>155665181Even better, it includes both the DVD and Blu ray of the pretty solid movie adaptation. That alone is worth $5 to me.
>>155665181>>155665190Might not be as rare as you thought, those were mass produced alongside a similar death of superman set and sold in walmart. Found a bunch of copies a few years ago in their $3 bin. Glad you like it though, I love my death of superman
>>155665587I think I've seen a few at the local Ollies a long ways back
>>155665587Nah I didn't buy it as a collectors item, more as a "This would be cool to give to somebody" thing. Although I don't have a copy of Death of Superman yet, I'll have to look for it.
>>155663887>Kabuki>Stray BulletsNice desu
You know what's cool? Crowdfunding. Shit I've crowdfunded this year:>Crimson: After Hours (Stjepan Sejic Sunstone spin-off with spicy stories)>Tyrant Complete Edition (Steve Bissette dinosaur comic)>Ninja High School meets Cerebus the Aardvark (Ninja High School meets Cerebus the Aardvark, duh)
>>155667181I gave a bit to Strangehaven. It's almost finished.
>>155655446Both are shit but at least Hush brought Jason Todd back to life (after retconning it to be Jason in the story after initially being Clayface).
>>155668708You say that like a positive
>>155665181>>155665190Fantastic get.
>>155668708Court of Owls is not shit but Jason Todd is.
I don't buy Marvel shit. I don't buy DC shit. I only pirate them digitally. I only buy creator owned books. My most recent were God Country, East of West and Criminal
This just arrived. I also have a poster with that exact cover that came with a bullseye action figure i bought a while ago. I should probably hang it on my wall but im too lazy to do it
>>155670234All 3 suck though.
>>155668708Jason was brought back to life in Under the Hood. The retcon from Hush didn't happen until after UTH had started (and maybe ended, I don't recall the exact dates) with Batman Annual 2006.>>155653863>anti-loeb contrarianism bred by faggots on RedditI refuse to believe that anyone could post this sincerely. You are trying to claim that shitting on Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum is the contrarian take here? Loeb's best work is carried by Tim Sale. Long Halloween is a good story that doesn't hold up to scrutiny (which is extra bad for a mystery story) and Dark Victory is a sequel that maintains about the same quality. For All Seasons is Loeb at his best when it comes to writing. Daredevil Yellow and Spider-Man Blue are both good enough standalones (I don't like Hulk much so I never read Grey). His World's Finest is mediocre and Hush is also mediocre. He has never written a truly great comic.
>>155641681Based and boxpilled
After getting some opinions in the previous thread I pulled the trigger on the Brubaker Catwoman omnibus. I'd already read Selina's Big Score and the Slam Bradley backup stories were excellent. I'm only about 10 issues into the run proper but I'm having a pretty good time. Still amazed that they market it as Brubaker + Darwyn Cooke when he only does the first 4 issues + Selina's Big Score. Maybe 200 pages out of 1000+.Big fan of street level crime stuff. I've already read Gotham Central, what else would be good? Doesn't have to be Brubaker.
>>155667181The only comic I ever crowdfunded was trick or treat 2. I am a patient man but it has been 2 years and I don't see myself ever backing another thing like it.
>>155667181I've backed a bunch of stuff:>Tyrant>Ex.Mag vol 7>Living the Line anthology>Ruffian Meat>First 2 issues of Al Gofa's comic magazineCompletely forgot about the Cerebus one so I hope I can buy that directly. I might back the Eddie Campbell artbook, new Sharknife volume, and the Corben artbook as well.
>>155671037I dont like Hulk either and recently read Hulk: Gray. It's not very good.
Been holding out on getting a new bookshelf untiil after I moved but what do you all recommend for one? I saw someone get a HEMNES and drill in some real wood to the back of the backing boad to keep it more stable, but I also have seen complaints about it. If I look for well made shelves, they end up being 800-1k a pop.
>>155672342I made my own hanging shelves for about $120. They're very sturdy. If you have your own tools or know anyone with a set, it's significantly cheaper than buying whatever shit you can find new. I'd also recommend thrift stores/facebook marketplace for good, well built old shelves, though some states fucked that up during covid because all furniture had to be fumigated to be resold so they just threw all their donations away for 2+ years
>>155671744For some calibration: Did you like Spider-Man Blue and/or Daredevil Yellow? Do you feel that if one is a fan of Hulk they would enjoy Hulk: Gray more?
>>155644612This anon again. Currently organizing my shelf. How do you guys do it? By artist? By series? By title? I'm having trouble deciding because I have a bunch of Mike Mignola stuff, most of which is Hellboy but then I have 2 issues of sledgehammer and 5 issues of witchfinder. It seems silly to spread those apart. Same deal with The Maxx/My Inner Bimbo and Ojo. I'm just being very indecisive
>>155673274You start off organizing your shelves according to a system but in the end you'll devolve to looking for empty spaces and trusting to your spatial memory for locating the books
>>155673274I go by sizes. Oversized on their own shelves, DC Finests in the rest. The latter all have years and names on them, so I switch it up whenever I have to dust the thing.
>>155641681DclC Finest's spines look nice.
>>155675049>DclCI may have had a bit of a stroke here.
>>155672392I haven't read those yet. I read his DC books with Sale and they were just okay.If you like Hulk you might like it, but I felt it was a tad thin.
Feel like grabbing a DC'a finest book so I have narrowed it down to these three: Deadman, Etrigan, and The Specter.
>>155645014Read more Strange.
>>155673274I usually organize by publisher and then by series. I have far more Batman and Spider-Man than any other character so they take up full shelves while other characters are grouped based on whether they are Marvel, DC, Vertigo, or Other.
>>155644612>Pack books fairly tight by series>Get new books later>Now have to rearrange entire shelf to fit in a couple new books
>>155670234You think that gives you power over me?I pirate Sunday Comics.
