Comedy Central seasons were very hit and miss but entirely harmless overall. I’m glad they were made even if none of the episodes were as good as the original run.
The Hulu episodes just make me sad. Worse animation, all the voice actors show their age, the worst episode of the entire series is from them…good riddance.
It’s a little sad Futurama fell from relevancy so hard. It was one of the biggest cult hits of the 2000s.
>>
That's sad, this newest season was a marked improvement over the other Hulurama episodes
>>

Hopefully it stays dead this time.

The Comedy Central episodes at least knew to stick Amy in fetish costumes several times a season; I can't think of the last time I saw anything like that from the Hulu episodes.

And what episode would that be?
>>
>>155651827
On my last rewatch, I was kind of surprised at how not-as-bad-as-I-remember the CC seasons were. Obviously I skipped the obama birth certificate one and the gay robot marriage one, but the rest were like... yeah, pretty good, with just a few stinkers like the talking boil one. Overall, not terrible. I'd place it just below "the last 5-6 seasons of King of the Hill" tier.

Anyone who watched after they started recasting based on race has a filthy soul and should really reconsider some things in life.
>>
>>155651827
the sad thing is the performers are still great, but they should have been given a NEW show, with new characters and roles, to continue showing off their talents and making us all laugh.

Stop digging up old shit and start giving us "We dug up the PEOPLE behind the old shit, dusted them off, carefully put the shovels away, and here they are for your enjoyment"
>>
Will the hulu seasons get a blu ray release? My collection cannot stand incomplete.

The biggest problem with the Hulu episodes was they had extremely rushed production schedules. The Fox seasons were great because they could take a script and reivse it like five or six times before it made it to the air.

The Hulu episodes didn't have that luxury. They were essentially only able to finish a first draft before rushing it into animation. It's partly why the animation feels off and the humor isn't as punchy.

That said, they seem to have adapted to the breakneck pace well in the most recent season. Some episodes like the Hot Dog one or the pop singer one suffer from the typical Hulurama thing of having a meandering plot that goes all over the place, but other episodes like Our Flag Means Medical Coverage do a great job making funny jokes and interesting plots.

It's clearly not Futurama in its prime, but overall if this is the last season, I'd say it's ending on a decent note rather than a sour one. Hopefully the specials live up to the same legacy set by the DVD movies.

There's so many bad episodes that can be considered the worst that Futurama may have achieved simply through a refusal to die and the passage of time the fate of the works it once parodied: becoming an anthology of ideas that vary widely in quality.

That is that we now know for sure the best thing that can happen for an sf work or idea is to be forgotten.

There have still been instances of female nudity in animated shows, mostly streaming. FOX shows have to be beholden to not just the FCC's decency standards, but Disney as well. It's stupid but if you're this upset you can't see Leela's naked ass, just go to Paheal

This anon is full of shit btw.
Janet's nip slip happened at the Super Bowl in early february.

Janet Jackson's nip slip was partially such an incident because it happened at the superbowl. The incident itself was barely anything and you barely see anything. You don't even really see the nipple itself.

Hell, the long term effect of Janet Jackson's nip slip was basically a "free the nipple" movement because people felt they were using it in response to Iraq. This later killed by Seth MacFarlane's "we saw your boobs" song at the Oscars which sexualized rather dark and serious scenes from movies and made actresses feel uncomfortable by the idea of audiences acting immature about nudity in scenes meant to signal things like vulnerability.

What really killed it all was simple. HBO toned it down. HBO is the big leader here because everyone else goes a step below them

HBO can still show ass, hips, et cetera on a woman but has stopped swishing tits around left and right. Thus, other networks go a step below.
HBO can go full Tarantino, so other networks can allude to foot fetishes in a non joking way.
HBO can now show flaccid dick on men, meaning other networks can put men in thongs.

There were also two backdoor finales: "Overclockwise" before they were renewed for another 26-episode Comedy Central season, and "Otherwise" before they were renewed for another 20-episode Hulu order. Technically six faux-nales.

>>155658314
>and I doubt this latest one even compares
It... does not. You get a sweet Yancy moment and another classic Gen X needledrop to close things out, but that's about it. Almost felt like the writers were mocking those of us who actually WANT to see how Futurama would definitively end.
>>
>>155658314
It's a retread of Meanwhile, while also giving everyone else except Kif, Zapp, and Scruffy endings to their stories in the episode. I honestly thought Otherwise was a better attempt at ending it again than this one was, though Meanwhile was way better than either.

>even if none of the episodes were as good as the original run.
I think there are a few episodes from the CC run that are good enough to stand alongside the original series. The one with the time machine that only goes forward comes to mind. It's got a compelling, science-fictiony premise mixed with silliness and sentimentality that ends on a sweet note. It was really just emulating the classic "Fry and Leela episode" format as popularized by "The Devil's Hands", but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Most of CC could genuinely go in the trash, though. Honestly, even the stand-alone movies were kind of rubbish beyond Bender's Big Score.
>>
>>155651755
I stopped watching the Hulurama episodes mid way through the second season of them. They were just so bad
People talk about the CC seasons not being up to par to the Fox run, I don't really know about them. Like yeah maybe it's a step down from the last two Fox seasons, but that original run wasn't as flawless as people think. Also the CC seasons were just a lot better than people at the time thought they were.

Maybe it was a nostalgia thing? Fans had been rewatching the Fox seasons for over half a decade by the point Comedy Central brought it back, and thus they had some rose tinted goggles and overly high expectations
>>
>>155655978
If you stop after 5 you miss some of the best episodes. Including The Late Philip J. Fry, easily the best episode of the show

The CC seasons were quite good if you skip the topical episodes. Same is true of the Fox seasons. The episodes about global warming and Napster are fucking awful
>>
>>155652765
Why did you skip those?
>>
>>155656296
Well there's the original Fox run. It's great. Not every episode is good, there are like a few duds in there, and the show gets better as it goes on. But it did poorly, like all sci-fi shows, and was cancelled.

Then there was a string of straight-to-dvd movies.
These are awful, just genuinely not good.
People will disagree with me, but I think that none of them are worth watching except maybe the first. Maybe. They are packaged on streaming as a season unto themselves and divided into 4 parts each.

After those movies did well Comedy Central bought the rights to the show and revived it for a number of years.
The quality is lesser than the original Fox run, or the end of the original Fox run anyway, but it's mostly still quite good. Arguably the best episode "The Late Philip J Fry" is from this revival.

That revival ran it's course and was cancelled again.
Until Hulu decided that fourth time was the charm.
I liked the crypto currency/western episode, but this revival is mostly just all bad. I stopped watching it mid-way through the second season of the revival
>>
>>155653204
It's one of the anthology episodes, which are always bad, but this time the gimmick is each story is built around a sort of toy or product.
So in one they're all toy cars, in one their rubber ducks, in one their wind up toys.
The interconnecting, in-canon part of the story has Leela leaving Fry. She's under a magic spell, but it's just annoying they are still pulling the 'will-they-won't-they' bullshit this late into the show
>>
>>155660033
>The Late Philip J Fry
Uggh I hated that episode it basically killed the setting and replaced it with one just like it
I couldn't care about anything because it wasn't THE characters anymore just similar ones like them in the future
>>
>A nice episode about Fry selling his soul to impress Leela

>>
>>155660604
To be fair they've been consistently a couple in the Hulurama seasons.

>>
What is the reason why they won't include the movies/specials on "full series" DVD's?
>>
>>155660654
Lol I dunno
>>
>>155660654

>>
>>155655529
It was extremely mediocre
>>
>>155660604
The one thing that changed in the continuity was Fry and Leela getting together and it has been really insufferable. Instead of Fry maturing and becoming worthy of Leela's affection, Leela gets uncharacteristically stupid. Most of the time Fry is getting cucked anyway, what's the point of them getting together?
>>
>>155651827
The Disenchanted episode didn't even feel like a Futurama episode. It was nice that it wrapped up the lingering stuff of Disenchanted but I can't imagine someone who's never watched that show watching this episode and not knowing what the hell is going on. Even if they tried explaining it through flashbacks, the flashbacks all felt kinda forced.
>>
>>155662841
