It's not that Eddie is a villian, it's that he's complicated. If you go through and read Eddie from his first appearance through Lethal Protector, all the minis in the 90s. To his Anti-Venom era, all of his times without a symbiote, the Gerry Conway Carnage series, Eddie Brock is one of the most realistic people in the entire Marvel universe, he has a real psychological personality which is hypocritical and yet totally consistent, he's Eddie and the symbiote is his Other. I'm so fucking pumped for Soule's Venom ongoing, this is going to be best the Venom comic in so long. I don't know how to convey it to non-Eddie fans, but imagine if they actually started writing Peter good again. That's what Soule is doing with Eddie. Eddie is not meant to be perfect and flawless, but he is meant to try to be that way. Eddie is like a bipolar fuckup psycho with a heart of gold, he does terrible things for the right reasons, and then he regrets doing them, and in attempting to right those wrongs he does more horrible things, but he also saves innocent lives. And he is always working to try to make sure no one else becomes as fucked up and twisted as he is. Eddie Brock is the kind of guy to get molested as a child and then who tries to ensure no one else ever gets molested again. Eddie Brock is not the hero you might want, but he's the one this world needs. Eddie Brock is Venom.

The art was good, getting rid of Paul was mostly decently done, the art was good... and MJ's reputation got repaired at least a bit. I think Ewing had more in store for the street level and MJ stuff, but sales just didn't match up, so Marvel told him to wrap it up in a way that ended up being a little too abrupt. My only real complaints are MJ not being contrite enough to Peter, not getting a lot of time to continue conflict with Venom and their past, and worst of all, the Flash relationship teasing, which I hope is completely over.
