Why is Indie Animation not the future?

the bar is too high now and yet the entry point to it is paradoxically low at the same time
there are professional teams and people who been doing this song and dance for decades alongside literal children who want to imitate them or doing it for fun using their phones with flipaclip and yet somehow there are animations from both sides of the equation that get views and likes while others crawl and beg for people to watch the animation
this isn't sustainable or stable at all in the long run but right now it works so people delude themselves that this is infact the future of western animation

It isn't.

It still is, and it's a mixed bag

Indie animation is like those tech start ups hoping their silly gimmick will get bought by one of the big dogs for a billion dollars.
They might be small and "independent" but the goal is ultimately to sell out for cash and go pro as soon as possible.

It's being artificially propped up by out of work industry people making Kickstarter after Kickstarter. Youtube AdSense pays jack shit and merch isn't always a guarantee to sell. Most of these are running at a loss while costing 40-250k a piece. This is also inflating the expectations of internet animation making it even more unattainable for newbies or low budget productions to break in.
At the end, only a few of these studios/creators will make it out unscathed
I also predict more and more of these indie studios will sell out to big corps. Zeurel, in addition to the Netflix licensing deal, admitted that he would give the exclusive rights if he had the opportunity.
Most of these indie shows would

The problem with Indie Animation is the distribution model. Unlike something like Indie Games who can publish their games for a set price on platforms like Steam, Indie Animation always has to monetize through indirect means like merch drops or Patreon rewards which makes it difficult to secure resources for continous series.

Damn, Adolf, you've gotten lazy

Lol, not your poopschizo
>>
>>155671283
Well, it IS the future, but that's only because everything always gets worse over time and the future fucking sucks.
>>

Large investment of time, resources and budget with very little returns. It’s a big gamble, and the reason why so many indie shows today take two years to make one episode and begin advertising their own merchandise to sustain themselves inbetween. That type of process is not for most people.

indie animation is being sold like a "Nintendo hire this man" thing and people get disappointed when they aren't hired by "Nintendo" (in this scenario any of the big corps)

>it IS the future
Till the west stops kicking their animation studios and animators in the balls

It's not financially sustainable

Indie is destined to be snuffed out by industry. In all fields. Human passion and compassion have always been paved over in human history.
>>
>>155671283
>Why is Indie Animation not the future?
Because you keep talking about the same 3 or 4 fucking shows even though there's thousands of other things to watch over there.

Animators won't go the extra mile and camp together on dense cheap housing - instead always clinging to their sloppy suburbia, always wasting time to go to far away places on their expensive moving metal trash cans. They oughta subsist on jerky until the real profit rolls in. It has to be a military style operation.

People want one episode per week not one episode every 2 years

All the people who would've been rightfully rejected had they applied to an industry job are running the show, and they suck at it. Everything in indie animation is only ever "good for indie" at best, with horribly sub par writing. The only thing that indie animation has is being le quirky fandom bait.
>Oooh, that's so charming!
>Oooh, that's so nostalgic!
>Oooh, that's so LGBTBBQ positive!
Do you really think anybody would give a fuck about TADC if the characters were all just normal humans? No. Of course not. Making Undertale style fandom sludge is all these hacks understand how to do.
Maybe next time don't hire all your loser employees off fucking discord and twitter or memefag voice "actors".

That's what the Disney channel's been doing since gravity falls

Actually it’s Phineas and Ferb, an episodic yet formulaic show.
