it feels like there is zero hype for this upcoming midnight universe. actually less than zero. negative. negative hype.
>>155672483I hope so, marvel could use the black eye
>>155672483The Dark Universe of our time?
>>155672483I couldn't give less of a fuck about another AU. Can they fix the main line already?
>>155672483This is the only one that seems even remotely interesting because of the body horror. The others sound like they should just be a three issue arc in the normal book.
I just want a Shonen Spidey book with real Spidey. Hothead Peter Parker fighting dudes.
>>155672483That's too bad.
>>155672590rent free
>>155672567Mainlines are fucked. It's high time they just give up on them entirely and just focus on AUs with limited run times that stay fully self contained.
>>155672483What a highly satanic pciture. It will turn many little children into homersexuals
>>155672483You're scared Marvel is going back on top, aren't you?
>>155672483I'm not seeing much hype online, but my LCS is treating it like a major event and is warning people they legitimately might not have enough copies. Of course, there's always speculators vs. people who actually care about reading the book... so maybe that's the difference. I don't really like horror, but I'm gonna check it out, buy the #1s, and see what I think.
>>155673394kek no one is afraid of that
>>155672483It's clearly Marvel trying to get a piece of the Absolute pie. I'm not that interested in it as I don't really read much Marvel but I'm interested in it for the sake of seeing such a blatant attempt at aping the competition.
>wot if spoderman fused with a spoder??>wot of ironman fused with a pile of junk in a cave?>wot if vulvarine fused with testosterone?>etc
>>155672483Qrd on this newest sloppa?
>>155672483I'm not hype but they are advertising the shit out of it and clearing the whole fucking week of any Marvel comic besides those 3 so it's likely to be a hit.
>>155672483HickGOD is coming to mog Absolute kek
>>155672483No one trusts Hickman to deliver anymore. Also the books not being in a shared universe is an interesting choice, dunno if it's a good or bad one.
>>155673814They are in a shared universe. They're just not gonna cross over like Absolute or Ultimate.
Midnight Spider-Man is just gonna outsell the mainline by triple the amount spidey office just gonna get pissed off and they’re just gonna shut down the entire line. But all in all I’m excited for msm I already preordered my copy
>>155672483>DARK and GRITTY and BODY HORROR superhero comic books >This ain't your daddy's comics anymore! How are people not fatigued by capeshit in current year yet?
>>155673814>the books not being in a shared universeThis would have been very interesting. I would have much preferred exclusively solo stuff. >>155674008 this however is less interesting but maybe it'll work out.
So this Midnight line was probably originally just intended to be halloween-themed AUs that have been retrofitted into being Marvel's answer to DC's Absolute line right?>>155674008If it sells well there's no way they'll be able to resist the allure of a big dumb event and you know it
>>155672483I will be buying 4 copies
>>155676505one to keep, three to jizz on?
>>155674218Because people are now getting fatigued by cape fatigue
It just keeps getting worse, bros.
>>155672483Because 90% of Marvel comics are in the fucking toilet, and this is just a shameless attempt at sniping some of the Absolute crowd from DC.
>>155672573Does Spiderman really have what it takes to be a shounen protag? I don't think he's someone who enjoys fighting and his powers don't really have anywhere to go.
>>155672483After how they killed Ultimate, can you really blame us? Wouldn't be surprised if this is even shorter
>>155678366>Does Spiderman really have what it takes to be a shounen protag?absolutely
>>155678366>Does Spiderman really have what it takes to be a shounen protag?Literally already been one
>>155672483All the midnights sold out at distribution and there's already a 2nd print of all 3 titles coming out Oct 28th, so I don't know
>>155679020I don't think spider-man 1000 sold out at distribution level, so there were more orders for all 3 midnight series it sounds like
>>155672483The only thing that gives me hope is that I like Hickman, Percy, and Johnson. The way they (mis)handled Ultimate 2.0 and the fact that it's so clearly trying to ape DC's absolute inspires zero confidence.
>>155678716>left-to-right>down-to-upWeird.Why do manga artists draw things like they're storyboarding an anime? it looks awfully stiff and undynamic.
>>155678366He's literally just Kamen Rider. It's a natural fit for manga. The Japanese love that guy.
HickmanbrosJohnsonbrosPercybrosOur time is now
>>155672483They went out of the way to kill Ultimate early why should I think this will be any difference
>>155679020Supposedly they sold 1 million copies all together I like to joke that msm sold 500k and mxm and mf4 sold 250k each
Supposedly there’s 36 issues so “far”
felt like all the hype went out the room when they started announcing the actual books, people thought they were getting a midnight sons universe of something before they revealed it was just spider-man, x-men, and f4
>>155679888>x-men, and f4People would have tuned in if it was just Spider-Man. The other two not so much.
>>155679888>people thought they were getting a midnight sons universe of something before they revealed it was just spider-man, x-men, and f4If Marvel genuinely did a Midnight Sons horror book with Ghost Rider, Blade, Morbius, Daimon Hellstrom, Man Thing, Brother Voodoo and guest characters that would actually fit the vibe like Doctor Strange, Magik, and Moon Knight, I'd have some begrudging respect for them again.
>>155679953That’s why they’ll never do it.
>>155679953>Brother Voodoobendis pls go
>>155680095He's good as long as he's not taking Dr. Strange's job. The more supernatural heroes, the better. Hell, throw Werewolf by Night and Simon Garth/Zombie in as well.
>Horror line of comics>No Hulk
>>155679526Most orders probably were spider-man. I can't imagine FF did even as well as X-Men. But it's a new spider-man #1, so I'm going to buy one just in case because look at what spider-man noir sells for now. Even ultimate #1 is like $100 and nobody cares about ultimate. If it flops big I wasted $7 I guess.
>>155680140Probably because Infernal Hulk is already horror-themed on its own.
>>155679604can't wait for it to get shit canned after 11 issues
>>155672483They already had the New ultimate line ti be the counter to absolute.
>>155672483I seen the opposite with people being more hyped about MSM than #1000, the Midnight title that i have seen with no hype is the X-Men one.
>>155672483Dunno what it is but looks cool. Kid me would read that from the cover alone. Not everything needs hype OP.
>>155678716I read that a long time ago and it wasn't very good.
Marvel Midnight: "We reacting to Absolute DC, but learned all the wrong lessons from it!"
>>155680475What's weird is that the whole setup to the Ultimate relaunch was very close in concept to Absolute. Whereas the Absolute Universe is created from Darkseid's essence (taking all the heroes out of their element and putting them at a disadvantage), the new Ultimate Universe was created by The Maker to do the same thing.
What's there to be excited about? It just seems so half-assed. We've already seen evil/spooky versions of all of these characters, and the entire premise is just uninspired. It really feels like they desperately threw something together to try and stem the tide of DC's success, banking on bringing in a few big guns like Hickman to deliver good enough material to prop it up.
>>155680537>What's there to be excited about?comic books
>>155674218Seriously.
>>155680574There are a whole lot of comic books coming out all the time. OP was asking why there wasn't hype for these particular books, I was explaining why.
>>155680574I can't imagine getting excited for any big 2 comic book nowadays
>>155674218Sorry not everyone enjoys stories for five year olds.
>>155674218I'm fatigued by a cynical, lazy cash grab like this, not the entire concept of capeshit in-general. All it does is tell me to keep ignoring Marvel and to keep checking out what DC, Image and Skybound are doing.
>>155680625DC's in the midst of a genuine creative renaissance. It comes and goes, though. DC was in a bad place not too long ago. Hopefully Marvel finds a way out of the current rut.
>>155680651>genuine creative renaissancecomics are doing so poorly that a few decent comics are being seen as a renaissance jesus christ
>>155674096Let's hope Peter doesn't get sidelined by the deuteragonist
>>155674096Yep, it's gonna be Ultimate redux all over again.
If it somehow is successful, do you think it will influence DC to work even harder on the Absolute line?
>>155681347No
>>155672483Probably cause marvel already blew its "Absolute" equivalent load in a absolutely disappointing event that amounted to nothing.
>>155672483It looks gay and shitty. Like Elton John's underwear.
>>155672590Saar
>>155672483I saw the weird fake anime art and stopped caring.
>>155672483PKJ's Hulk turned me off for his writing
>>155679071>Why do manga artists draw things like they're storyboarding an anime? it looks awfully stiff and undynamic.Because that's exactly what so much shounen manga/anime is. It's annoying.
>>155682208>I saw the weird fake anime art and stopped caring.Same, the art is not for me at all.
>>155672483It will never not be crazy that a Marvel intern saw me pitch this exact idea and then stole it from me
>>155672573>>155678366I've actually had a Shonen Spidey idea for a while now, it would work great
>>155672483There originally wasn't much hype for Absolute Batman on /co/ either
>>155678366Everything said about Midnight Spiderman so far just makes it sound like Absolute Green Arrow but with the murder mystery plot replaced with a teen superhero
>>155681347Probably? I think a lot rides on that animated Absolute Batman series. That'll probably be a big game changer. But if this Midnight Marvel thing actually starts eating some of Absolute's pie I could see them growing to focus on it more to compete. Which could lead to them screwing up and bloating it with even more likes when they were already pushing it with that Catwoman one.
>>155682143I honestly need to start digging on what happened here, cause nothing I've heard particularly makes sense. Even if the sales were lower than I thought, which I feel like I would've heard people shitposting about more if so, they couldn't possibly have been as low as some of the other stuff they've got bumping around. It's like they genuinely just got mad like all those shitposters said, which I also can't believe. But it was SOMETHING.
>>155672483Midnight... universe?
>>155680509Wasn't Absolute already DC's answer to an Ultimate universe? Even weirder!
>>155683014I don't think it will. The problem is for all that Absolute is like "the modern version of 90's grim and grit which is now not really grim or gritty in feeling but still kind of dark and oppressive in a modern bombastic way," it's not as pidgeon holed as a "horror" universe is. Things are pretty fucked in a lot of the stories, but you still have Martian Mind****er being a fever dream, you have Diana being genuinely hopeful and largely successful, you have Superman struggling but still keeping the dream alive, you have Green Lantern having this grand cosmic philosophical wars and the Flash being still kinda the Flash but maybe a bit grosser sometimes.Only Green Arrow genuinely feels like a horror thing. Batman has its moments, but it's still not actually a "horror" story. The Midnight Marvel comics absolutely are going for that as the unifying theme, and I'm just not sure that's going to work like the Absolute comics which are, at their core, about a gonzo but still "back to basics" idea. There's room for "FUCK YEAH" that I'm not sure you'll get to have in Midnight. You think Midnight Spider-Man's gonna ride into battle on the back of his teacher turned into a big lizard? I fucking doubt it.That sort of shit is what the 2nd Ultimate line was about and the fact that they fucking torpedoed that while Absolute was taking off is genuinely baffling. They didn't even bother to try and retool it in anyway. They just ended it and then went "uh, here's our new, new, NEW alternate universe line! You guys like the body horror in the Absolute comics, right? Well our Spider-Man has a BIG SPIDER FUSED TO HIS CHEST, WOOOOOO~!"Jesus christ.
pretty joever
>>155672483I’m interested in it, I like the idea so we’ll see where it goes
>>155673624Then editorial all shouted "MENTAL IN IT"
>>155683318>I’m interested in itwhy
>>155683082What AI drew that?
>>155679084Hell, Midnight Spider-Man is literally just Kamen Rider Spider-Man.>forced into becoming a mutated freak by an evil organization, he uses the powers he's been given to fight against said organization and its other mutated freaks determined to take over the world
>>155683014>I think a lot rides on that animated Absolute Batman series.>3d cgiit's already dead what the fuck were they thinking
>>155684190>3d cgisay sike right now
>>155683743Looks like Phil Noto.
>>155683105Oh don't get me wrong. I don't think it will either. I imagine this will be a very short lived run and everyone will know what it was trying to copy. But the question was "what if it was somehow successful would it influence Absolute?" Which is a much bigger question. If a miracle did happen and it somehow this Marvel attempt did last then maybe it would.
>>155672483Gee, a third Ultimate comic run?
>>155672590Logan did not say that
>>155684880yes but dont call it that the Shogun will get angry this is totally NOT just ultimate again ok
>>155684190I'm still waiting to see how it looks. No, I don't have high hopes but I'd like to think DC isn't that stupid that they'd cheap out on what's been their obvious cashcow lately and that runs adaption. I'd like to think they'll try whatever they can to get it to work somehow.>>155684537Nah, he's telling the truth. We don't know much else about the comic animated Absolute Batman adaption but we do know it'll be 3d cg. Whenever it finally does come out.
>>155684135>Every episode ends with the narrator monologuing about how lonely and endless Takeshi's fight as Kamen Rider isMan, Takeshi had it rough. Love old Kamen Rider. If Midnight Spider-Man can capture some of that energy and quality it could be a promising run.
>DC's in the midst of a genuine creative renaissanceMy dude, le heckin edgy and BRVTAL 7'5" working-class Batman fighting le heckin monstrous 20'2" Bane written by Scott "I'm Not Zack" Snyder, is not a sign of a genuine creative renaissance. Quite the opposite, actually. Both DC and Marvel are out of ideas. The only reason DC is doing slightly better now than two years ago is because they started pandering to the manga audience who have the shittiest taste possible. But this effect won't last forever. Sales are already dropping. By 2030, both Absolute Crisis and Secret Crisis will have flopped, as well as the DCU movies, and DC will either go bankrupt or lend all of their IPs to Image, Dynamite, IDW, and others just to stay afloat for a while. Marvel won't outlive it by much longer, but DC will def have it worse.
>>155685760Meant for >>155680651
Who fucking gives a shit
>>155683673>Horror = fun>Spider-Man = funIt ain't hard gramps
They're trying to ape Absolute so hard it's fucking pathetic
>>155680651>Creative renaissance is just taking comic deconstruction more seriously than ever before i.e pretending these silly people are le super serious literary characters What the fuck even is capeshit now? Does it even appeal to young people anymore, or is it just for the sunk cost manbabies who got long got bored of the simpler formula?

>>155688086That's extremely gross and in bad taste. Did Mark Millar write this?
>>155678366There are Shounen protags like that. And "If This Be My Destiny" maps pretty well to a Shounen story, complete with Pete triumphantly overcoming his limits at the end.

None of these ideas appear to be actually creator driven. Visually the only interesting book appears to be F4
It's sold a million copies as preordered, but we can't take anything from that due to the nonsense Speculators inflate on every #1 looking for their golden goose. We'll see how healthy the lines are by #10, I will say we look very paint by the numbers as far as plot goes already for all but F4, which is their premise and playing it for maximum body horror. Kamen Rider but Spider-Man means we all collectively know the first few issues already, and vampire X-Men is a very used car plot already.Give it a fair chance, but we all know modern Marvel editorial.
