It’s the last issue of this arc. Previously in Uncanny X-Men, Rogue and Gambit temporarily left the team to meet up with Gabriel the Devil-Hunter to deal with the curse of the Eye of Power that Gambit has been struggling with. But when he tries to exorcise Gambit, it instead backfires and makes his condition worse, to the point that they have to travel to Brazil and meet up with Repent, the X-Orcist. After helping Repent with freeing another mutant possessed by a demon, Repent tells them that they needed to travel to the Iron Cathedral to free Gambit from his condition.
Meanwhile back in New Orleans, the remaining X-Men encountered the young mutant Howler, who had fled from a mutant-trafficking facility that was affiliated with the Word of Strength cult, and decided to raid their base and free the mutants inside…

Last time, Jubilee and Logan got accidentally teleported by Apocalypse’s device that had landed outside the Haven House to his tomb that was in the process of being raided by Hydra mercenaries. Instead of listening to Apocalypse’s holographic message coming from the device telling them to leave, the duo decide to do a stealth mission when spotting that the Hydra mercs had lots of inhibitor collars. However, the stealth mission ends up going wrong, and they both get trapped inside the tomb separated from each other, with the main entrance blown up. Apocalypse sends another holographic message telling Jubilee that she has to stop the remaining Hydra mercs from stealing the celestial technology inside his tomb, and in return he would guide her out of the tomb as his emissary on Earth. But she is not stopping them alone – Rictor and Shatterstar are also here!

But once they were able to force the entity out, they didn’t have much time to reflect when Blade and Wither suddenly came to visit and ask for their help…

There's no exchange of blood or temporary death ritual where you have to bury the body or anything
Just one bite and you're infected and will eventually turn

Wither's decay touch isn't always instantaneous, sometimes it takes a while to completely drain the life out of something.
That's why in House of M he could be paired with Elixir as a torture unit. Wither would decay a prisoner and Elixir would heal them back to health, and they would repeat the process until they got the information they wanted.
And why, when he touched Wallflower after Decimation that he destroyed her hand, but didn't kill her instantly.

The vampires seem to have a healing factor

So as long as one of the vamps managed hold on long enough to bite him and inject whatever venom it is that turns people, Wither should still turn even if his maker and the other attackers all die
