The hell. I just learned that the official page went offline years ago. I knew the authors put the comic on hiatus to work in nu-Animaniacs, but why did they forget about the comic to the point of letting the website die? Even their socials are abandoned or pretend that Camp W never existed.

While the comic may be too depressing for TV, I wish that it still lived on as a web animation. Too bad Camp Camp took its' niche by having a similar premise
Spoilers for this comic: I used to think it was pretty cheesy but the more I think about it the idea of this being purgatory or some sort of afterlife makes the most sense of anything. I mean obviously 'dilapidated summer camp where parents abandon their kids' isn't realistic in the first place but I never really noticed anything that pointed elsewhere outside Linus arbitrarily deciding he needs to travel into the deep woods and leave everyone behind despite being the oldest for no stated reason. But it feels like every character with a lot of screentime has some defining character flaw relating to their trauma the camp seems to be forcing them to confront, and that's really the only place the story could actually go from where it left off, I don't think 'the camp is actually diagetically real and they are actually just in the middle of the woods' has any progression to it. It's like a child version of Silent Hill, it's making sure every kid is at peace before it allows them to pass on.
>>155677269It's on archive.org.
>>155676191this is probably the saddest one
>>155677409What if stories could have psychological or allegorical elements and character growth WITHOUT being literal purgatory? Imagine all the stories we could tell if not for the Autistics of Hippo, someone should write a story about it.

>>155676769is /co/ usually this dumb? holy fuck
>>155677806Yes
>>155676610If whomp came back, then there's hope for camp as well.
>>155677516It's not that I think there's no other explanation, like I said I used to scoff at it myself, but realistically where else could the story have been going towards? Why else would Linus have such existential questions about the camp, and believe the answer was to find a point deep in the woods, if the whole thing really was literally just an abandoned summer camp for abandoned kids? I think upon rereading, at the very least, the premise should not be taken at face value. That Malachi and Linus do question the purpose and truthfulness of the camp, talk about the 'mysteries' surrounding it, imply, to an extent, the reader is supposed to know something else is going on. It's not a science experiment set up by Malachi's dad, but it's also not what we've been lead to believe. Especially the ending for Linus' arc being that he just decides some point in the woods is 'the exit' for no reason and presumably this would not have meant he reaches civilization and calls the cops about a camp of neglected and abandoned children, it's worth questioning the actual nature of reality at play here, even if allegory and character psychology is present in stories that AREN'T in purgatory. It was also just such a popular theory for people to have about other IPs at the time this was made it wouldn't be surprising that this comic was written with that in mind being inspired by other people suggesting it for EEnE/Adventure time.

>>155678299I think by the weird rules of this world the exist of the woods is just a way to represent him growing up and deciding to return to civilization ln his own. I think there was some concept art were he was much older so it makes sense the idea is to grow up and go explore the world.
>>155678299IIRC at one point you see the skeleton of a counselor in an abandoned/overgrown building so I think they're definitely alive. But I have no idea what the deal with the camp could be, who's sending the "supplies" and how parents find out about it in the first place.
>>155678493For dead bodies I can remember there's the soldier in the tree with the parachute (Lord of the Flies reference) and a dead kid skeleton in another tree.
>>155678493The parents respond to some sketchy advertisement for a place to pack their kids off to where they never have to think about them again, and the camp organisers send equally unwanted supplies to fulfil the letter of their commitments. Don't take it too literally.
>>155678493As far as 'who's sending the "supplies" and how parents find out about it in the first place' maybe the land is owned by some shady guy that takes money from parents to let them abandon their kids in his totally-real-summer camp far from any bureaucratic oversight and pays for the cheapest possible stuff to be airdropped every now and then so he can show on paper he buys supplies for it, but as far as he is aware all the kids are dead and each get dropped off to a camp full of corpses.I always thought of it as a reference to the real life 'Troubled Teen' camps that parents/courts send kids to as an alternative to juvy where they appear as fully certified state-of-the-art facilities for rehabilitation but they're all basically American teen Auschwitz.

>>155677404If the comic was to depressing for TV does anyone else think Camp Weedonwantcha could be in the same Universe as either The Loud House or some Canadian and French Cartoons because of it's art style?

>>155678864Ronnie dad would do it
>>155676314Were you never one of those kids who would complain to your mom that there was “nothing to eat,” even though your pantry was fully stocked? Most kids in first world countries really just mean that they don’t have the particular snack they want on hand when they say “there’s nothing to eat.”Also, Fred is probably the only kid at camp who knows how to turn ingredients into food, instead of just eating raw flour.
>>155676610Heh
>>155676670Seventeen....... you told me you were clean
>>155676654disgusting
>>155678998yeah, I can see his dad abandoning to the wolves.
>>155676268>>155676275I like how the kids behave like kids and have kid's level of skills, Fred might be the cook but he isn't incredible nor is he solely the "kitchen kid" Unlike something like Craig of the Creek there is no science kid making incredible machines or some kid who is super good at something, they act like dumb kids doing their best with what they have but often are dumbasses making things harder for themselves.
>>155678493The airdrop supplies are mostly garbage, recalled medicine, food scraps, cats. I think the camp might be some place were you can just dump stuff and nobody says nothing.
>>155678728Yeah I can see that. Even in my example I can see this Camp W existing alongside Camp Campbell. It seems like that's just the vibes of cartoons from that time period
>>155676882Cute. I guess in some ways despite the awful reasons the kids end up there, not having to participate in society could actually be freeing thing.
>>155679983I think it’s a continuation of the narrative theme that everything dumped on the camp has been discarded, but gains new value because the kids have nothing else. Fred turns stale bread into croutons. Linus is enough of a bookworm that he doesn’t mind reading a book about Bran in absence of anything better. A box of wigs drops the minute Malachi gets a bad haircut. I definitely agree that the supply drops are dumping, but if we’re nitpicking about realism already, it is admittedly very cartoony and inefficient to gather a hundred or however many feral cats, put them in a box, and then parachute that box out of a plane.

>>155679954Thats because this comic is for adults, a kid show telling kids "people like you are lame" is a hard sell while telling an adult "kids are lame look at them and be glad you grew up" is fun for us. When I was a kid I loved shows that had kids with special talents or who made contraptions. At any stage of life we like to see people similar to us being cool or doing cool shit.
>>155676240>>155676245I love this comic, I hate that I'm just finding out about it now. The whipsawing between poop jokes and absolutely devastating pathos is great. The whole premise is fantastic. This sequence is so brutal and yet somehow it works despite how silly the surroundings are.I'm not surprised that the show got canned, though it's a real shame. I'm sure once someone high enough in the network figured out the implications of the premise it got spiked immediately .

>>155679954The kids in Craig of the Creek weren't without failure or mistakes either. Sure, they had some decently talented kids in their little society, and there was certainly some even well above average in some areas, but overall they were still kids. Plus I would say the kids also got a chance to become varied characters outside of their "niche" that they found for themselves, so I don't think it's fair to pigeon hole them like that either. Also it might be unfair to compare because the majority of kids in Craig of the Creek had loving parents which probably helped out with skill development a lot kek.

You could follow your master's order immediately and the game was over, but you could listen to her and then a bigger part of the game came up and more interesting choices, but the option to kill her remained at every stage, including once you arrive at your dark lord again with her, ostensibly to slay your master but you can then kill her in front of him, betraying her.

>>155685541Look, I understand that when applied to other IPs it's generally really pointless and unfalsifiable because it requires no evidence in canon and also has no effect on canon. Like with "Adventure Time is Finn's coma dream" or "Ed Edd n Eddy takes place in purgatory", yeah, nothing in the shows supports this explicitly and also having these readings has no effect on the actual shows themselves; AT is still magic fantasy and EEnE is still just kids playing in their neighborhood. But for Camp W specifically, while it's not something said explicitly in text, it does have an effect on how the story is read. We know all the characters come from broken or abusive households and were abandoned, we know a lot of them have striking character flaws relating to their trauma, we know that probably the smartest kid there had his own questions about the nature and purpose of the camp(Why would Linus even ask 'why are we here' if the answer is just the obvious 'because their parents all abandoned them at this summer camp with nobody taking care of them'?) and his arc finished by walking to some point in the dark woods surrounding the camp and deciding that that's 'the exit' without elaborating on if that means he's going to re-enter society or hang himself or what. All of these things about the story are meaningfully changed by reading the camp as paranormal by some means. And while the 'magic purgatory illusions' argument is typically pointlessly unfalsifiable, here it actually does explain some things about the story that go unanswered. If we take the way each kid gets to the camp at face value, why do we never see any kid try to walk back? Are there never any cars or trucks passing through this road they could hitchhike on or alert authorities? Why did Linus leave through the woods and not taking the entrance road? The rope course kids wouldn't carjack a parent? If it's a miles long private road, how was Seventeen mailed there?
>>155686548It seems the copyright is no longer hers.
>>155677409Except that makes 0 sense for all the kids who are either overall nice and did nothing wrong and aren't even traumatized (abandonment here aside) or kids who are only very mildly annoying or simply weird.I'd sooner believe that the camp isn't actually dilapidated and abandoned, but only seems that way to the kids, who are dealing with being dumped there, either through imagination or memory.
>>155684612kek and in the second book he somehow gets convinced to go back and the guy with him almost immediately dies. The best book is Winter though.
>>155686925>Why would Linus even ask 'why are we here' if the answer is just the obvious 'because their parents all abandoned them at this summer camp with nobody taking care of them'?To me the obvious answer is to highlight how even the smartest "kid" fails to understand the true nature of the camp, to highlight either how detached from reality they are, or how he's stuck in a kind of arrested development from being abandoned.>his arc finished by walking to some point in the dark woods surrounding the camp and deciding that that's 'the exit' without elaborating on if that means he's going to re-enter society or hang himself or what.Sometimes things are exactly what they seem, but that doesn't mean they can't mean more.To me, it's not a literal purgatory, but a metaphorical one. The camp, the forest, the abandonment, the abuse, and the kids simply not leaving because they're kids is all literal, it's all happening as we see it. But the metaphorical part is how the camp represents a kind of metaphorical purgatory where these kids exist outside of society, as they've been cast out as undesirables by their own parents. They're not dead, but they're also not exactly "alive", they're just surviving. That's how I see it.They're innocent kids and they also take it at face value, they don't understand why they're even there. It's a secret camp where kids are abandoned anon, I'm pretty sure the implication is simply that it's extremely well-hidden, maybe I could even imagine that there's a Bermuda's Triangle kind of situation that helps keep its existence a secret.>how was Seventeen mailed there?I really doubt she was literally put through the mailing system lmao, I always interpreted that she was just driven there and then dumped like everyone else, maybe her family simply cared so little that they didn't even do it themselves, would explain why Seventeen was already so distressed when she arrived.
>>155687471This is actually closer to my actual belief than any strict 'it's straight up silent hill' theory, I only originally posted that I had come to see the logic behind it as I reread. I think it is fully reasonable to see that the premise of the comic; these kids are abandoned in a dilapidated summer camp with no adults and left to die; can be fully true while the events of the comic are more meant to be taken with a grain of salt to deliver a story, especially considering the comic's cartoony nature.>I always interpreted that she was just driven there and then dumped like everyone else, maybe her family simply cared so little that they didn't even do it themselvesTo be honest Seventeen is the character most likely to be Bruce Willis in 6th Sense. Nothing about her origin really lines up with the logic that makes the original premise make sense; like how presumably the point of this camp is a way for parents to abandon their kids in a way that's easy to get away with legally(Colin? Missing? No we sent him up to a nice little summer camp up north, real fancy place, acts as a school too, they send us his report cards and he's got all As. He wrote to us he loved it so much he didn't want to leave til he graduated. Of course once he turns 18 and isn't our responsibility, I guess whatever happens to him then we can't be held accountable for.). But that just doesn't make sense for Seventeen's family who we know are already off grid; the parents are nowhere to be seen, the eldest siblings run an illegal moonshine operation and Seventeen never went to school, I doubt Seventeen exists as a person in the eyes of the US government. There's no reason for them specifically to go the route of sending her to this camp to get away with her abandonment.
>>155688155>Nothing about her origin really lines up with the logic that makes the original premise make senseYou're way overthinking Seventeen's backstory dude, her family hated her, so they put her in the camp where kids ara abandoned, it's not that deep.>that just doesn't make sense for Seventeen's family who we know are already off grid; the parents are nowhere to be seenAgain, I don't think it's that deep, I assumed they were just hillbillies. My take with their parents is that they existed, but they were just too neglectful to care or notice.

It's sad that it ended but it honestly couldn't have gone better. I like it being a complete work.So is there no more pages? Should fanart etc be fine to post now?
>>155691509>Everyone else gets an F for making her look like a weird mutant.she is a weird mutant
>>155691662Yes, you can post fan art
>>155691662Sure, but don't go crazy with picture dumps, since we have so few posts ledt in the thread.
>>155691662The book has about 20 pages of concept art if anyone's interested in seeing that.
>>155691720Do share !
>>155691720Concept art please. If this thread fills up we can retreat to the 1st thread that's still kicking around some how.
>>155691720Yeah, might as well
Alright, concept art then.Once again, sorry for the quality, if you'd like another take of any of these, just ask.
>>155691522You will like it
I regret that the only comic I remember was the one about the kid who farted in bed and thought it smelled like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies while the facial expressions of the others suggested otherwise
>>155691929Is that a teen anime school girl Seventeen?
>>155691653I kinda get it. Eventually you have to give up being a shut-in and go do something unless you're one of the actual crazies that feel like they CAN'T leave. He just eventually walked out and fell in with Seventeen and Brian since they were the only ones to reach out initially.
And now it's done for real, this is the last page of the book.
>>155692146Thanks! It's interesting to see how rough the work is before properly drawing.
>>155692146Seeing how rough Katie's concept is makes me feel better about my doodling art style. A lot of concept art on Pinterest I would see was super good and polished.
So now that the dust has settled, Seventeen is for __________?
>>155691273This part really stuck with me.
>>155683227...It's always the pedos who ruins an otherwise wholesome thread.
>>155678864santa would
>>155692579She needs a new parent
>>155692033Man, I really wish I could decipher this handwriting, Katie would've been a great doctor.
Now the dust has settled. What was her fucking problem?!
>>155693077She got a dud and raising him single was costing her best opportunities to try over.
>>155693077He's like a purse dog, I suppose.Bitch wanted a child prodigy she could tout around for bragging rights. She didn't want to put in any effort in nurturing him, she just expected him to be naturally gifted. So when he didn't turn out that way, he was discarded. She was unfit to be a parent. That's her fucking problem.
I guess Linus leaving is supposed(?) to read as a 'overcoming your fear/anxiety to move forward' kinda thing, but I swear it feels more like a suicide allegory up until the last bit.
>>155690863LOL
>>155693077Genuinely evil person, I wonder if she tried again after abandoning Malachi. Also, I love the subtle detail of her not holding his hand, and even looking kinda disgusted that he holds onto her arm, it's so cruel.
>>155693130I interpreted it as him "growing up" in a way, he was already the oldest in the Camp, he couldn't hold onto that fear that he's had since childhood from when he was abandoned. Also, bringing it back to the "the Camp is a literal Camp, but also a metaphorical purgatory", I could see it as him finally moving on into the world of the living.
>>155693173>>155693153He was reincarnated as her next try.
>>155691332>The only stuff I know about my dad is what my mom told me.I think it's likelier she just lied about who he is to give Malachi some kind of motivation of having to live up to his father's accomplishments.
>>155693077some people are just not parent material and incapable of growing up past themselves
Sad so little fanart
>>155691595fffffffuckkkgood use of snow to depict change
>>155693077I get that he's actually named after Children of the Corn, but his mom paid for the polymath chromosomes and named him literally "prophet", her expectations weren't ever going to be possible.
>>155676818Cute cat
>>155676610>Brian - On NoticeRonnie understood Malachi on a fundamental level
>>155690278lol
>>155690251Well Malachi is death, goodbye everyone.
>>155690292kek>>155690301Oh the Harpy Gee artist!
>>155690732seventeen a cute! A CUTE!
how bad do you think seventeen stinks
>>155690434psycho kids
>>155691433First time reading this!Where/when was it published?Thank you, very much!
>>155676610I'm pretty sure Ronnie making this guest comic is how I was introduced to this comic in the first place. I was still keeping up with Whomp! at the time. Come to think of it, I used to keep up with a lot of webcomics.
>>155690408>>155690480Reminds me of Eddy's Dad, you just need to glimpse at those hands to know the beating he is gonna get.
>>155691139hmmm I see, he got like this because he touched bennis.
>>155691403As a closing comic, this one is pretty sweet. Will we ever see a continuation of Camp Weedonwantcha?
>>155690600asshole
>hey I have an idea for a web comic about a summer camp for kids but it is like lord of the flies
>>155691403thanks OP, it was nice to re-read. it might be my favorite webcomic ever, and I agree with you. it stands on its own, no more no less. I imagine there's some hidden meaning with snow finally appearing, especially given we were shown they had to resort to pretend mud was snow once.
>>155690800Breath of the Wild is almost 10 years.
>>155694388The idea is great and you can't argue with the results, but I think it's pretty obvious why the comic isn't more popular and why Nick passed on the pilot, I have a hard time imagining any mainstream network pushing something like this.Except maybe Glitch now that I think about it, we would at least get 8 episodes and cute marketable plushies of all the important characters.
>>155692146awesome stuff man, thanks for sharing.
>>155690843I love this.
>>155693130>>155693173I think it's a metaphor for adulthood, he's moving on from letting himself be defined by his parents and being one of "the kids" and going out into the real world.
>>155690929There is an island.

>>155692033>Innauguration[sic] Day>M[alachi] convinces P[urdy] to give first aid to the wounded animal.>How would P react to ̶h̶a̶g̶ having younger kids stand up to her? Would she try to get something from them?>P not bloodthirsty. Enjoys hunting for function and because she's good at it.>M + P both from privileged (well-off) family.>Hint at P's backstory? She uses big, hard to use words?>P makes M cry... gets off on it. She's weird, mean streak (she made her sis cry).
>>155694284Pic related, I bought it back when the site was still up, don't remember exactly the year, but I'm pretty sure the comic had already ended at that point.I'm very glad I did, I remember looking one day again wanting to buy something else just to find the whole site gone.
>>155694537Like I said earlier, I really wish they made a Vol 2 or full collection ot something, this book ends at >>155661748, there's a lot of Camp W that hasn't been put to print.
>>155694437Child abuse media is frowned upon in any circle outside of anything other than a serious investigation. I find it hard to laugh at implied gags at child mistreatment on a mainstream appeal. Especially now when it is very apparent how easily child abuse is just largely ignore by agents with authority if makes trouble for them.
>>155694537Did they published this book?
>>155694502>P makes M cry... gets off on it. She's weirdThat's a really funny note. I'm glad the creators recognized the potential for some awkward teen sexual tension between the two. When I was a really young boy I had lots of crushes on older girls. Although Purdy being the one to get some gratification out of Malachi is pretty unique and funny.
>>155694502teach me how to read doctor
>>155691403What a sweet ending, Thanks anon, it as a nice reading.
If I were a rich man, this is the type of art I would fund.
>>155694437Kids love the dark, bleak weird stuff - just look at how TV animation has completely fallen off in comparison to viewership of youtuber mascot horror and weird shit like TADC. I think they missed the mark bigtime when they passed on the cartoon pilot, it was before its time and could've been big despite the justified worries of controversy.
>>155694584Yeah, it was funded through Kickstarter.
>>155694646You're actually very right, this is the kind of cute yet also secretly dark and fucked up type of media that a lot of kids love nowadays. That said, Nick probably still wouldn't be the place for it, the whole plot of this story revolves around child abandonment, if this were on Nick, they'd probably sand off all the edges so it fits better next to SpongeBob, just so they can cancel it after after half a season, and then never air the remaining episodes.Nick fucking sucks, someone tell Katie to contact Glitch.
>>155694646Is not that bleak, well it is but at the end of the day is suppose to make you laugh, is not like its the little matches girl or something.
>>155694704It's not outright depressing, sure the kids' backstories are sad, but it's still ultimately a story about hope and togetherness in the face of adversity. That said, I can't emphasize enough how the whole plot of this show revolves around a secret camp where shitty parents straight up just abandon their children, I can't really imagine anything like that in any kids network, specially with how straight it's played.
>>155682637I can't remember which strip it was, but the brown one was once shown stealing a TV on the streets.
>>155691403Thanks OP. I'd like to imagine that someone eventually found the camp and took them all to a home to care for them. That's what I alwwys imagined I would do if I were an adult that found them, so I hope someone else does as well.
>>155694299We all did when we were still living
>>155691190Why do you think he's at the camp
>>155695387well they didn't finish the job
>>155695393No one grows any older there for a reason, anon
>>155695406And the reason being that not even a year passed between the comic start and end.It just started snowing during the last pages.
>>155691929now that's some bad handwritting
>>155681831She's super underrated. Cute personality and I love her design of a kind of weird-looking long faced girl with buck teeth. Pretty in a unique way. She reminds me of that NEET girl character that went viral a while back, but a younger version. I like her name also. We she got any attention from the drawfriends.
>>155694581the mistake is to assume that the misstreatment is comedy.
A shame we never hit the image limit
I didn't even noticed we reached bump limit. Thanks OP again for the storytime!>>155695956No fanart worth sharing in the remaining minutes? We only need 7
>>155695977Can't remember if this was done while the comic was still going but it was a pretty epic one for a non mainstream webcomic jabarchives.com/main/post/7093
>>155691302This page made me realize that they BOTH still have their shoes
I miss this era of webcomics so bad. If only most authors stopped while they were ahead and ended their work satisfyingly instead of dragging things on until all the passion died
>>155691372>>155691382>>155691394>>155691403What a bittersweet ending.I really wish there was more even if this does make for a decent closure. I doubt even if she continued working on it that any of our main cast would ever leave but I wish we found out if the camp is real/symbolic/purgatory/<some fanwank nonsense>
There, image limit reached too
>>155696273You're a peach, anon
>>155696272>I really wish there was more even if this does make for a decent closure. For me it's like the finale of Mighty Max, enough to be an ending, not enough to feel satisfied.I wanted to see a little more into the new life arrangement, with Malachi living in the library.
aww, I had a few more images I wanted to share. Well either way, great thread guys
>>155696286The previous thread for the first part is still up, hasn't hit image limit, and also hasn't hit bump limit

Seeing how little fanart this comic has is inspiring me to be the change I want to see
>>155696313Is this just a compilation of all the images of the comic in these past few threads into one thing, anon?
>>155696364Do it!
>>155696385Seem to be. I was hoping it would be a high quality scan of the kickstarter book
