Do you think lettering and speech balloons have evolved significantly over the decades?Do you think more work needs to be done?
>>155680098At the end of the day you're fighting between the panel's composition and the clarity of the story, you can do a lot more with speech that bubbles and I do love how Quino just pastes whatever he wanted to convey instead of actual words but you have people complaining about not understanding it at a first glance instantly the moment you don't have an infodump at the beginning of their comic and the kind of lettering your grandpa uses on his cellphone, that being said:>Quino is kino
Quino is so good. I still remember that strip about an old man using his grandson computer. I never found it again. It was great.
>>155680098These tricks only work in more cartoony comics.
>>155682089I would argue as a comic gets more serious and realistic it gets harder to justify even having regular speech bubbles. Eventually either the text becomes subtitles on a frozen frame as if it's a movie or it's forced of the panel and happens outside it like a script with an companying picture.
