Today's Cartoon Network 's birthday
Aaaaand its also the birthday of a very special website!
>>155682825I had Cartoon Network several months earlier than its October 1 launch. I remember watching it on satellite while I was still on Summer vacation as early as August. I remember watching Top Cat, Paw Paws, Shirt Tales, 80s Jetsons, Pound Puppies, Centurions, and others. I remember being confused when I read in a magazine that the channel's official launch date was in October thinking, "That's odd, I already have this channel".

>the absolute state of cartoon network right now34 years and for what
As someone who grew up on Cartoon Network starting at around 2003 or 2004, I don't recall ever seeing Sheep in the Big City. I've seen it in a lot of CN's early promotional material, but never actually broadcasted. And I've even remember What Ever Happened to Robot Jones?

>>155683058Cartoon Network is on right now and it's as good as it ever was. It's just not called "Cartoon Network" anymore, it's called "MeTV Toons" now. It's the same thing but better (mostly).

>>155682846I always liked when they got creative with commercials.
>>155683058>34 years and for whatAs upset as I was with all the mismanagement and bullshit CN went through over the years, I learned it's best not to let all that get to you. It's better to just cherish whatever good moments that channel brought you.
>>155682825>Today's Cartoon Network 's birthdayAdmittedly, my taste in animation had changed by then and I mostly watched CN for anime with that G-Force version of Gatchaman being the first anime I saw on that channel. That said, at least I understood how influential those CN originals were in establishing that channel's identity.Oh, and Toonami and Adult Swim were added bonuses that also helped in establishing that identity. Seeing mostly uncut anime during those Adult Swim Action/rebooted Toonami days and AS shows like Venture Bros., The Boondocks, and Metalocalypse made it worth while to tune in late, pre-2010 anyway. Sure, I may have hated all the executive turnovers, tonal shifts, and bullshit this went through, especially in recent years, but at least I had some cool moments when I use to tune in. Thanks.
>>155682846Yeah, those earlier CN commercials with HB characters were cool and this one is easily one of the better ones.
>>155685133Mike Lazzo is an absolute genius for coming up with Adult Swim. The very nature of a cartoon oriented television station would always naturally cause a mass drop off in viewership later in the night when kids were sent to bed.Adding adult and teen content after that point makes perfect sense. Moreover, as time went on and they leveraged it for Fox rebroadcasts like futurama/family guy/etc it really came into its own.I think, in a way, we also have Toonami to thank for Adult Swim. This is because Toonami came about earlier but had always flirted with adult content, especially with Midnight Run. Their ratings had to show people like Lazzo that there was more room for that in the programming.
