What did people see in this?
>>155687354trash
>>155687371Then why was it successful?
>>155687354People didn’t read this, women did
>>155687354HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR>>155687378DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
>>155687371Apparently not, since it was huge when it was coming out regularly.>>155687382Plenty of men fellated it too. Probably more men than women.
>>155687609>the average /co/ user at his most poignant
>>155687378Characters were easy to cosplay, minimal effort required for the demographic of Convention goer who watches Big Bang Theory and calls themself a nerd but doesn't actually read comics.
>>155687354It was pretentious and pseudo intellectual while also being crude so normies thought it was the coolest shit to them.
>>155687354This was the most bait-and-switch comic I ever read.>Woah cool, space renegades with a classic "magic v scifi" universe that's willing to show dead kids and fucking? Awesome! The Will looks kinda cool as an anti-hero. I wonder what dangerous, imaginative adventures this comic will->Actually it's just neoliberal progressive preaching with a very immature and insensitive "the opposite of violence is sex" message at one point. Also the tranny can sniff biological pheromones to detect pregnancy but also nobody is transphobic. Here's a dozen fucking pages of a bunch of people speaking in Esperanto with practically nothing happening.
>>155687354Mate, it was 2012 most people just wanted to live their lives and hoper a slightly better future. But hiatus killed the book.
>>155688577You need to learn pattern recognition, the character designs, even from the first issue, scream pozzed wokefaggotry.
>>155688543No one who ever uses words "pretentious" and "pseudo intellectual" can explain what being "truly intellectual" entails. You should just be honest and say you don't like heavy contemplative stuff.
>>155687354Woke faggotry
>>155689651Let me dumb it down for you. Saga's stupid and pretends it's smart.
>>155689651Is it contemplative?
>>155687354The first ~40 issues are okay, there's some weak writing here and there, but it has some interesting ideas and does some interesting stuff with them...Then they have a prolonged arc where they travel with the tranny and go to a hillbilly abortion clinic to abort Alana's baby after a partial miscarriage and then a few issues later The Will murders Marko for shock value and the comic goes on a four year hiatus. And when the comic finally returns there's a random ass arc where Alana joins a fucking circus and then the tranny murders Sophie for shock value and then a few issues later the comic goes on hiatus... again.Basically the comic threw out everything people liked, lost the plot, and kept going on fucking hiatus.
>>155687354Guy has a TV for a headBad words
>>155687378It seemed original in the beginning. Killing Marco killed the franchise
>>155687378women liked pretending to be "Into comics"
>>155689651its literally "2deep4me" dialed down to something a 12 year old can digest. dont pretend its actually contemplative past a marginal level
>>155687354Garth Ennis loves this comic book series
>>155687354It was peak Millennial. You zoomies and alhas wouldn't get it. If Vaughan and Staples didn't shit the bed with hiatus after hiatus after killing Marko there 100% would have been an animated adaptation of Saga a la Invincible and it would have been inescapable on social media
>>155694498It was fine for what it was but millennials ate it up like it was, well...>Star Wars + Game of Thrones + Joss Whedon + Sex!This was also before Tumblr was taken out behind the barn and put down and replaced with her sanitized clone
I wanted to like it because Y: The Last Man is one of my favorite comics but I just couldn't get into it. The sci-fi stuff seemed more concerned with being quirky than it did being a realistic or thought out setting with consistent world building.
>>155687354It really was weird. It was edgy, but in a "safe edgy" "woke" way than 90s/00s dork nerd edge kind of way, and kind of a trailblazer in that regard, unfortunately. And as others said also pseud and pretentious. It is "Woke 1" the Millennial comic imo.It just was a "different time" where shit like this could fly. Not a good period of human art, not that it is any better now. Just different kind of shit.>>155694498Thank god we at least avoided that timeline
As embarrassing as it is, I will admit though, for a brief moment when I was reading it as a teenager, I unironically thought it was cool.>Holy shit is that fucking Esperanto! While I am still a cringe clown in many regards, teenage me was on a whole other level.
>>155694618I picked it up because I heard it had Esperanto too. Was pretty disappointed as it's an obvious Google translate job
>>155694639Oof
>>155687354The only bizarre thing is that this is recommended to manga readers as an example of a good comic.
>>155694569>I wanted to like it because Y: The Last Man is one of my favorite comicsSame.>The sci-fi stuff seemed more concerned with being quirky than it did being a realistic or thought out setting with consistent world building.I thought the setting was meant to be where every social issue like racism, economic disparity, substance abuse, and lawlessness was completely squared away and war was the only unsolved issue. And then it just stopped being all that and it turns out that all of Earth's present social issues still exist only on a galactic scale and nobody has fixed anything. And war. And absolutely zero plot because we still don't know what is so wrong about Hazel being a half-breed. Unless the punchline is going to be, "oh my god, racism still exists!" It's obvious the story has no ending. Their tree-ship was supposed to get shot down on launch and nobody thought up anything past that - and still haven't.
>>155688577>the opposite of violence is sexWhat?
>>155694569>>155695223Y do you guys like Y the last man, I read half I think than gave up
>>155687382/co/ was in love with it for the first few years
>>155688488you mean OP at his most poignant
>>155695573We can see OP's post.
>>155687354At the start, before it got lazy, Fiona Staples art was pretty good.
>>155687354Neat art. Pretty faggy though. Didn't get too deep into it.
>>155687354>What did people see in this?Lie Detecting Beerus
>>155695962The characters were interesting at the start. The Will and Lying Cat, the ghost girl, Prince Robot, Alanna and Marko even were fine at the start. The appearance of the fucking parents was an early danger sign. The destruction of Marko, the ascension of Alanna to full cunthood, trannnies literally waving their cock around in front of a child, full woke madness. It's incredible how much it imploded. As others have said. The sci fi setting quickly proved to be a bait and switch. Staples ran out of imagination after the first two TPs or so. And Vaughan embraced full blown faggotry at all levels.
>>155687354what is this
>>155687354I enjoyed it, it felt like something different. I never got round to picking it up again after the hiatus, though. It bothered me sometimes how it suddenly seem to shift from "magical space adventure" to "21st century America slice-of-life, but some people have horns".
>>155687354I dropped it because there was too much misery.
>>155697473This. As with most things, the first example of it is novel and shocking, the 23rd is just tiresome.
Sombody post the tranny bathroom scene, where the tranny is mad that a child misgendered them.
>>155687354Genuinely dropped this on this first page despite all the shilling it got. To be fair I had already been burned by BKV, Y the Last Man was total shit that got praised everywhere
>>155687354What did people see in BKV? Everything I've read from him has been straight trash.
>>155688577It went from space opera to space immigrants. It is just current happenings but everyone wears a sci-fi cosplay.
>>155695521Great start, great ending, some good stuff in between. On rereads some of the filler can get pretty rough but I enjoyed the characters and thought it was nice that Yorick got to be right sometimes and wrong other times. Too often you get the main character being always correct or (more common these days) always wrong/naive and needs the strong woman to be correct all the time. It's a decently unique story for comics as well. You don't find too many road novels in comics any more.
>>155687354Saga is to comics what Rick and Morty is to cartoons
>>155698609>You don't find too many road novels in comics any more.It was more of a 90s thing.
I bet nobody in this thread even knows what a fidget spinner is.
>>155687354Vaughn has never written a good comic
>>155698648Thats sums it up perfectly!
>>155699427You kidding?
>>155699259Any recs?
