You've been tasked with giving your favorite hero a real, conclusive, happy ending. What are you going to write?

>I'm not the original OP by the way. Anyway, here's my answer.

By wish-granting shenanigans, Alfred is granted his wish of Batman's parents never being killed as he attends Batman's funeral, after a series of events go wrong leading to Batman's untimely, early death as a vigilante at the hands of one of his enemies.

He appears years in the past on that fateful night and shoots the assilant, saving the Wayne parents. They are shot but not killed, and Alfred comforts a young Bruce Wayne until the ambulance arrives.

The timeline is changed.

Alfred travels further into this changed future to see that Gotham is now a very different city. Bruce Wayne is now an outgoing billionaire philanthropist and uses all his money in service of making Gotham city better. After his parents almost died but were saved by a stranger he grew up determined to use his wealth to better the lives of the unfortunate criminals that live in Gotham, that commit crimes out of desperation and poverty.

With better access to housing, food, and healthcare, less people commit crimes, and the villains we see in Batman are either redeemed or are doing better in life, turning away from the path of crime, or never having entered it to begin with.

Alfred travels further into the future and finds Bruce Wayne, he's an old man, a grandfather, and sitting in a chair smoking a pipe. He looks content with having led a good life. Alfred smiles and the comic ends.

Bingo. Giant-Size Little Marvel, Issue #2 p13. It's a Secret Wars tie-in. Here's the full page.

So long as it makes him happy, what's the harm? This thread exists specifically to facilitate happy endings, anon. Do not begrudge anon his own.
