As for the game itself, it was always intended to be MtG for the Yugioh age group. The design reflected that. While the mana system is largely an overall improvement to MtG, there was a lot of deliberate design elements used to strip down the complexity. In the mobile game, the mana system is somehow stripped down even further. The game also removed most instant speed effects limiting them to Shield Triggers.
