>You see, Lisa, it's been an unlucky year for Laramie. A lot of people who smoke our product have been, well, dying, and we need young smokers to take their place.
>I don't want to be a spokesperson for a cigarette company.
>But you're a role model to young people. And we're thinking of retiring Menthol Moose.

all i know is that when smoking was common people were thin. nobody had bullshit diseases like autism or adhd. and men didn't pretend to be women

Zoomers will never know the hell that was indoor smoking. If there's one thing about the 80s that nobody misses...

>nobody had bullshit diseases like autism or adhd
They did.
It's just that back then they were considered weirdos and troublemakers so they were either beaten into submission or institutionalized.

I remember on the commentary Al Jean (I think) has a nice sardonic speech about how shows like "The Simpsons" go after tobacco companies because they're not allowed to advertise, so they're the only corporation an ad-supported show can go after without any pushback from the network.

Basically it looks like they're going after an important target when they really aren't.

Most fat people I've seen are also smokers.

I moved to the US in 1991. There was still smoking indoors at fast food places. I remember a Wendy's downtown pissed me off for having this nice sunroom as the smoking area. I wanted to sit in the sunroom without the icky poo yucky smoking.
But smoking was still common in hospitals and elsewhere across the US until the 2000s, my area being one of the first to ban smoking indoors altogether. ffs, you could still smoke on aeroplanes until the late 90s, iirc. I remember flying back to yurp for the summer in 1997 and my mother sitting separately from me and my dad so she could smoke during the flight.

>and men didn't pretend to be women
Has the Simpsons actually touched this? I mean like Lisa and the environment or other political things or even as simply as the burlesque house being considered morally upstanding. I'm not sure if even the two flaming homosexual episodes count as being strongly pro-gay, at least by 2010s standards.

my uncle used to be a maintenance tech for American Airlines. they had to replace the pressure equalizer valves on the planes on a routine basis as they'd get gummed up with cigarette smoke. after smoking was banned on airlines they basically never needed to replace them.

My state still allows smoking in bars.

the FCC banned cigarette ads on TV in 1971. by the time this episode aired that was already ancient history and an entire generation had never seen a TV ad for cigs.

Better to have people think you're a fool than open your mouth and prove it, anon.

>Designate a separate area of the cabin as a smoking zone
>It's a pressurised aluminium can so all the smoke inevitably takes over the rest of the cabin anyway
Fucking genius.

I remember when they had to get rid of Joe Camel because dopes insisted it was encouraging children to smoke.

you think trannies don’t smoke? or that smoking prevents trannies? lmao at the ideas some of you have
>>
>>155698412
People pressumably also smoked less per day back then, since traditionally, you smoked one cigarette after a day of work or one cigar for a special occassion. I dunno what is wrong with most people today where they have to either: Smoke 20 cigarettes a day or zero. No inbetween. Same shit for booze. Drink 12 cans a day or none. No moderation in today's society.

That has never been the case, fat people always existed and autism and ADHD were discovered in 1945.
>>155698718
It wasn't even that, they were just viewed as odd but were treated like everyone else.

Japan will like to have a word with you.

They joked about it in 30 Minutes Over Tokyo.
>And see these women? They used to be men.

Japan went through the same thing with the Suntory penguins.
