is the brand more popular as a 'monster of the week' or a war story
It’s super hero robots. The war is more like games of capture the flag
A monster of the week war story. Really, only IDW and the War for Cybertron games tried to really push hard on the war story aspect, at least from memory. It's a tricky franchise because on one hand most older fans want a more mature story that tones down the silly bits but on the other it's an inherently silly premise so when writers try to play it totally straight it comes off as boring and too self-serious.

monster of the week usually makes the writers limit the cast to a handful of characters which allows them to actually make them characters, war stories tend to fill the cast too much and takes normies out of it. even bayformers knew to limit its scope at first to one guy (bumblebee) then up to a small crew later. once bayformers went into the more grand war and stopped focusing on characters it went downhill, among many other things of course
