That time when Pinocchio got re-released in the 90s and got a cool Renaissance style movie poster.
>>

It looks epic as hell but does Pinocchio really need all this pomp and corcumstance? They spent the first 30 minutes of the movie oohing and aahing in Gepetto's shop.
>>
>>155703668
in my opinion, no. Pinocchio really doesn't hold up, nor does Dumbo or Snow White. but they were IMPORTANT, dammit.
hold-uppage starts around Peter Pan and Cinderella. Those still feel oldtimey as hell, but there's enough going on to hold the adult attention span. and then once Walt dies, it's kinda amazing going forward. Sorta like Muppet Christmas Carol, everyone was trying to do him proud so they could instill confidence in their fellows that the work will continue without its progenitor.
Then of course we hit the late 90s and everything went rancid, but meh. Good run.

Same with fantasia and Snow white
>>
>>155705474
it's so weird hearing that fantasia was supposed to be a sort of answer to what we would later use reruns for, by getting butts back in seats to watch the same thing again but with new shorts being cycled in and some old ones cycled out.

The clocks are cool

Never saw this poster, but my first time seeing the film was during this era. Thanks, Kanye, very cool!

Does anyone have those posters? The Pinnochio one looks so fucking cool.

oh wow. How have I never seen the 1990 Fantasia Poster?

it's very cool with the colors and the framing but the face that went with on Micky here is god-awful. should have used the confident smile he has on the VHS cover.

I think Snow White holds up. It's a pretty simple fairy tale, and there's a sense of dread and peril when Snow White "dies" and the dwarves go out to hunt the witch.

I do agree on Cinderella and Peter Pan. Cinderella might actually be my favorite Disney movie. At least, Cindy is my favorite Disney princess. It's funny that it and Sleeping Beauty are products of the same era at Disney but Cindy feels so different from Aurora.

And by that I mean she's actually a fucking character with motivation and agency. Hell, she gets to save the day in the end because she has the other slipper.

It looks so beautifully 90's kitsch

Fantasia, Alice in Wonderland and The Three Caballeros kept Disney afloat after Walt Disney's death because theatres were full of hippies watching the movies high. At some point it got out of control when hippies tried to invade Disneyland and the board had to forbid hippies from entering Disneyland for keeping the family friendly image.
>>
>>155706167
Considering what a strait-laced anti-communist Walt was, this probably had him turning in his grave.
>>
>>155706049
I hear people saying that about Sleeping Beauty a lot, but in my opinion, Aurora and Philip have by far the most personality of the entire era. They just don't get much screentime, whereas we get a real long time spent in 'rella's life, and get to know her. She has a liiiittle bit of sass to her. Just a tiny bit of Lucille Ball in her blood, presumably as a coping mechanism.

>>155706167
see in my day, those were on the same side. hippies were all about tearing down big powerful governments like the soviets, and all about jesus and stuff. A bunch of friendly weirdos getting high and coming to your park should be wonderful fun for the whole family, they are essentially the crowd from Dumbo. just some silly fellows with their own lingo.

But soviets love Walt Disney
>>
>>155706366
they envy the fuck out of his ability to enthrall people, and they just try to ignore the fact that he accomplished all of it with the power of capitalism.
>>
>>155706412
Maybe the maoists but soviets seem to love Walt unironically
>>
>>155706581
well they also enjoy cartoons, we know that.
>>
>>155705050
>in my opinion, no. Pinocchio really doesn't hold up, nor does Dumbo or Snow White
I disgree
>>
>>155706647
that's valid. They are classics, I'm sure lots of people think they're the joint.
>>
>>155706264
>They just don't get much screentime

Eh, to quote the great Bill Parcells, "Your best ability is availability." True in football, and true in stories, too. No matter how intriguing a character may be in short bursts, if they don't SHOW UP in the story then they WON'T have much character, because there just won't be much runtime to develop them and explore them, to make them dynamic and changing. Aurora spends more than half her screentime asleep. I get that's the point of the story, but it doesn't make her much of a character, despite the few snippets we get.

I do think this plays directly into how much Aurora's been fodder for original /co/ntent over the years. Her character is so scanty that she's basically a blank slate, which means you can drop her into a lot of different types of stories and go a lot of different directions with her. Throw in the presence of the Fairies and Maleficent, there's a lot you can do.
>>
>>155707456
see I disagree, all the favorites are always the one-scene wonders. the Jaws principle. The less they see of you, the more they want. and Aurora is anything but generic, she has real specific expressions that make her seem... different. much less 'girly' than the other princesses of her ilk, and more matronly even at 16.
>>
>>155707456
aurora doing things or not isn't what makes sleeping beauty bad. she is so much of a non-factor to the movie she is practically a complete afterthought.

it's the 3 fairies continually openly stating stating the obvious...then just doing it and everything else in the goddamn movie.
they're like a segment of a shitty modern vidya where a friendly NPC just starts basically playing the game for you and is annoying as fuck while doing so.

They are 3 of the most dogshit disney characters. Maybe the first legitimately bad ones even. I genuinely don't know why they aren't held with the same kind of disdain of something like Gurgi, Fagen or dumb ass gargoyles from hunchback
>>
>>155708379
what an odd yet well supported take
>>
>>155705050
Old Disney movie do feel like a handful of Silly Symphonies string together into a movie. Both Pinochio, Dumbo, Cinderella and Snowwhite feel like random stuff happening and some plot at the end.
>>
>>155708489
indeed. and some of that stuff is amazing, I mean, where would we be without Pink Elephants on Parade?
All because a mouse and a baby elephant drank some extremely watered down wine..
>>
>>155706412
Both soviets and capitalists believe in industrialization. Walt was a living contradiction, a conservative fascinated with technological advacement and the future. Also his problem with commies were the unions but they were forbidden on soviet soil. As Lenin said, "Communism is Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country". Marx was a strict positivist after all so he admired science so much that he believed the endgame was the power of science saving mankind. Pol Pot was a weirdo with his project of going back to the Bronze age.
>>
>>155708736
>Walt was a living contradiction, a conservative fascinated with technological advacement and the future.
Not really a contradiction at all.
>>
>>
>>155708987
Industrialization inevitably bring to break with old traditions and power structures. See the industrial revolution and its influence and going from feudalism to capitalism. Also how the conception of man changed from part of a community to an atomized individual

Huh, no, hippies were the reason veterans got demonized and shat on after Vietnam and also why the latter did not end up getting their recognition as the heroes of that ugly war and have been mistreated and ostraziced by the dumb general public.

What do you think was the inspiration for First Blood, the original story of Jhon Rambo? Literally talk about how veterans were seen as scum because of the narratives made by the hippie culture.
