I was thinking the other day, how things would play out if Superman wasn't a DC cornerstone, but instead was absorbed by Marvel in the way Namor and the Human Torch were. The ripples are far too many to try and chart, so I'm not even going to try. But I think it's interesting to see how Superman's origin would've been changed in the Mighty Marvel Way to fit with their way of doing things (no, Stan Lee's Imagine doesn't count). And I came up with this:>Krypton's story originally is kept pretty much the same>the world was breaking down and Jor-El, a crackpot scientist of noble birth, put Kal into an experimental rocket and sent him to Earth>through later retcons it'd be revealed that Krypton was the first world the Celestials seeded, and it's the original "common ancestor" between Humans, Kree, Spartoi, Shi'ar (yeah yeah bird people I know), and so on>and the destruction of Krypton was due to the Celestials, but some Kryptonians are alive in colonies (hello big crossover World War Krypton story)>anyway, Kal's rocket lands at the mansion of a reclusive scientist who raises him as a son>Kal's intellect is fostered and he grows up to be a super-genius inventor>his natural powers are Golden Age tier, but through the Kryptonian tech from his Pod and the suit Jor-El gave him, plus his intellect, he creates a better nanotech-BS suit that makes him truly "Superman">origin kept in the Pre-WW2 era, is the first superhero, and is in that character bracket of not aging>is a more reclusive character who spends time in his Fortress, in his disguise he's some CEO of a tech industry, and is part of the Reed/Stark/etc club>Superman pastiches are reworked into villains/supporting, Kree are absorbed into his lore, and so onTaking into account how most of Marvel's characters leaned on the Super-Genius Adventurer or Fantasy King, I think this is the most likely case for a Superman owned by them. And NGL, I kind of dig it. I think it'd be pretty interesting.
Didn't we already have a comic run showing us what Superman would look like if Stan Lee had written him
>>155704961We did. He became the Silver Age Hawkman, only with Golden Age Superman level powers.
>>155704871I think it'd depend on when Superman gets folded in, and how much they'd have to work with.If he got folded in during the 60s or 70s Roy Thomas would try to incorporate him into The Invaders, is my guess, maybe Steve Gerber writes the character in the then-modern day of the 70s because he's a big Superman fan.In the 80s when Shooter was offered to buy DC I think it could be likely Byrne still does Superman, up until he ragequits over something.
>>155705545I feel like Shooter would write Superman himself in that scenario.
>>155705979I could see that, though it'd be more likeShooter lets Byrne work on it because he knows Byrne sells, some conflict happens and Shooter takes over the writing after Byrne ragequits. Probably JRJR draws it
>>155705979>>155706151Fuck. Nowi wanna read shooter's Superman
>>155706362Me too. Shooter had experience writing young Kal-El in LOSH, so I think he would’ve written a good origin. My guess is he’s tweak a few things but have Superman still be recognizably be the Bronze Age Earth-One version.
