When I was a kid back in 1994 on a cold summer night, I was reading my favourite comic Watchmen on my original book eating my favourite beans. I started up the issue The abyss gazes also, but something was wrong. Instead of that iconic scene with the rorschach test and walter, Rorschach was just standing on the street with all the watchmen dead around him with no psychiatrist in sight. All the watchmen were covered in blood with their mouths wide open, "did Rorschach do this?" I thought to myself out loud as I chewed on my red hot beans. The street was pitched black and the sky was bright orange like that scene from The Lion King. Suddenly the panel went to the next page and Rorschach turn 360 degrees looked in the page and said "N I G G E R". I was shocked how could Rorschach say something like that. My Dad storms in to my room angrily, "did you just say the n word". I pointed at my book and told him Rorschach said it, but the comic went back to normal with the doctor and Rorschach being tested. My Dad still mad takes off his belt and starts whipping me. I cry out in pain, the beans spilling all over me soaking me to the bone. My Dad wobbles away slamming the door behind him, I cry laid down in a puddle of beans. I look down at my book, Rorschach's face looking at me with his blood red mask, A Nightcore version of My Chemical Romance - Desolation Row Starts playing in the background. "Why are you doing this" I said to Rorschach, He looked at me and said "Reply to this post or your Mother will hurm in her sleep tonight". I tell him I don't understand, he starts laughing evilly, the music getting louder and louder, I scream so loud I passed out.I don't know if it was real or not to this day, but that face...that damn face still keeps me up at night.

And it's not le nihilism, it's just what happens with the passage of time. AT only shows glimpses of that but it is a canonical future. Hundreds of years from the events of the show, the distant descendants of Jake are going to start a war and Ooo is going to become a wasteland, with every character either dead or disappeared mysteriously in the case of the ones that live long enough to see it happen. That's what's canonically going to happen, so everything good the heroes accomplish is bittersweet in the grand scale of things. I hope they never get it in their head to make an actual spin-off about the future though, because us knowing as little about it as we do gives it a mystique that would be lost otherwise.
