>we have Marvel midnight and Absolute Universe at home

>IDW is unleashing horror across its publishing line in 2027, with familiar franchises joining new nightmares as part of the ambitious IDW Goes Dark initiative.

>New York Comic Con week is here, and IDW Publishing is going big with signings, exclusives, a Friday panel, and at least one major announcement planned for every weekday. Fans can expect news involving Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, horror, and a still-classified reveal coming during IDW’s panel Friday at 11:15 a.m. in Room 406.2.

>The announcements begin with IDW Goes Dark, an ambitious initiative that will spread the publisher’s horror imprint across its entire lineup throughout 2027. The event will bring darker stories to some surprising properties, including Hello Kitty, Sonic the Hedgehog, Godzilla, Star Trek, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, alongside new original projects.

>The 2027 horror push will also include A Quiet Place: Rising Tides, The Twilight Zone, Any Given Smile, Event Horizon: Pandemonium, Fatal Fest, and Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: The Summer and the Fall. Fans attending NYCC can also pick up exclusive ashcans for Fatal Fest #1 and You’ll Never Leave This Place Alive #1 at IDW’s booth #4551.

>“One of my earliest memories is the day I accidentally watched Stephen King’s It when I was nearly 5 years old,” said Heather Antos, Senior Group Editor and lead on the IDW Dark imprint. “One of my first jobs was working in my local haunted house as a teenager. And one of the first comics I ever fell in love with was Hellblazer. We’ve been blown away by the way fans have embraced IDW’s horror books, and this is our opportunity to give them even more of what they love while pushing these characters and worlds into places they’ve never gone before.”

>Antos added that IDW is “bringing together incredible creators, iconic licenses, bold new ideas, and the absolute best damn comics we can make,” before teasing, “I cannot wait to see just how dark we can go.”

>IDW isn’t revealing everything quite yet. The publisher is also promising another horror surprise during its NYCC panel Friday, with additional announcements expected throughout the week.

Their horror line predates Midnight and has nothing to do with Absolute.
>>
Nothing new for TMNT or Godzilla. Wonder how dark Sega will let them go with Sonic.

Nice to know Twilight Zone and Beneath the Trees is still going.
>>
>>155763556
Beneath the Trees should have ended at the first part. It jumped the shark hard.
>>
>>155763698

Eh, lets see how part 3 goes.

It's gonna be decaffeinated Sonic.exe o algo

What the hell does SEGA think of this?
>>
>>155763735
She already killed an entire squad of cops and burned down an entire town. There’s no putting that genie back in the bottle. She’s going to be killing the entire US army with robots she built in the back of her shed in part 3.
>>
>>155763767
>>155763556
I imagine Sonic will be as "dark" as whatever they do for Hello Kitty.
>>
>>155763854

Part 3 is probably her last stand before she dies. The comic can continue without her.

On the other hand, she's kinda the face of it, and IDW wants to make it a franchise beyond comics, so...

It’ll be Tails Doll doing a FNAF reference.

I guess you could do a Werehog mini
So long as it isn't like the Halloween special we should be fine

>TMNT
Doesn't Skydance own them? Why are they still involved with IDW when they have DC to be their new publisher?
>>
>>155765755
you can't possibly expect DC to survive the merger, WB will be lucky to survive the merger

They renewed the license once it ended a few years ago. If it's anything like how it was when Dark Horse owned the comic licenses to the Alien and Predator franchises before Disney bought them and put them under Marvel, then Skydance will just have to wait it out until the license expires and then they can put it under DC.
>>
>>155765755

IDW has TMNT as long as they keep sending Viacom the licensing checks.
>>
>>155765898
It makes zero business sense to license out an IP that's worth tens of billions of dollars to third party publisher when you already have your own that's got it's own share of billion-dollar IPs that make it virtually priceless, so why not make it even more priceless by integrating the Turtles in DC? They've already done this before with Charlton and Fawcett.
>>
>>155765898
Not when they already have DC who has wayyy more market share in the comics industry.
>>
>>155765978
>>155765995

I can't see WB turning down free money.
>>
Marvel and Disney let Dark Horse keep Star Wars.
>>
>>155766006
Because if they're smart, then integrating TMNT into DC Comics would mean they can reboot the Ninja Turtles into the DCEU and do crossovers while the collective cultural memories of TMNT and DC being separate properties still exist in most audiences.

It'd be too good of an opportunity for Gunn not to pass up.
>>
>>155766098

If you think they're ever going to add TMNT to the DC Universe you're nuts.
>>
>>155766083
>Marvel and Disney let Dark Horse keep Star Wars.
Marvel and Star Wars aren't in the same industry. One of them is exclusive to the comic book medium, the other is exclusive to a major film franchise. TMNT began as a comic book and it's not unlike DC to merge with other comic book IPs like they've done so in the past.

>>
>>155766159
They're still making comic books, nigga. What the fuck are you talking about.
>>
>>155766192
Marvel is no longer exclusive to comics. To some they're more movies than comics.
>>
>>155766215
This is like saying they should shut down their comics division because the movies make more money and ahve more influence which fucking retarded, anon. They're not doing any of that shit.
>>
>>155766215
You're talkimg about Marvel STUDIOS. I'm specifically referring to Marvel Comics. Big difference.
>>
>>155766148
So why would Paramount not let IDW keep TMNT? Whats the difference?
>>
TMNT is IDW's biggest hit, they're not gonna let it go that easily.
>>
Pretty sure that TMNT will be under DC Comics one way or another. Makes no sense business-wise for them to license it out just because they make money from it when they'd make even more money from the potential films they could make with slapping the DC Studios logo on top of them and keep pumping out future storylines for Gunn to adapt.
>>
>>155766361
Once again, you could say the same about Star Wars. Hell, maybe DC and IDW will both make comics, like Marvel and Dark Horse both make SW.
>>
>>155766347
It's really funny that you assume that IDW has any power whatsoever over the license to TMNT when it was Paramount that gave them their blessing to go ahead with a renewal once it ended in 2 years ago.

They scuttled the Playmates TMNT toy license in favor of Mattel, and they've had a longer relationship with TMNT for decades.
>>
>>155766394
Star Wars started as a film franchise.

TMNT started as a comic book property.

Literally not the same thing.
>>
>>155766394
Anon, Star Wars are a collection of movies that expanded into comics and other material. TMNT are a series of comic books that expanded into movies, cartoons, and other material.

The IP use is only concerned with what the particular IP started out as.
>>
>>155766394
>Hell, maybe DC and IDW will both make comics, like Marvel and Dark Horse both make SW.
Why are you making the presumption that Skydance would be as open with licensing as Disney is lmfao
>>
>>155766495

Because WB needs money badly. They're already thinning their workforce to try and scrape off 6 billion.
>>
>>155766573
The money that can be made from future films involving crossover slop with the Turtles and Batman would generate more money for Skydance than the nickels and dimes that IDW has ever made for them the whole time that they held the license lol
>>
Wow, you guys really hate IDW.
>>
>>155766625
Stating facts isn't hate. Just because you like IDW and want them to survive Skydance yanking the license that's been a lifeline for the company for years doesn't change the fact that Skydance will do this sooner rather than later.
>>
>>155765978
>tens of billions of dollars

lifetime? maybe

TMNT comic books? probably not even tens of millions over a decade, this ain't the 80s

>when you already have your own that's got it's own share of billion-dollar IPs that make it virtually priceless,

there's a couple of misconceptions here: firstly you don't get a do-over on licensing just because your company got sold; Paramount doesn't have a comic books company (except DC) and so licensing out those rights made sense at the time, but that contract stands even though Paramount has now acquired Warners and DC with it

secondly a company is only worth the money it's making, either turnover or share price; so DC isn't worth shit because it's not traded (except as part of WBD and now PWBDlGBTQ+, formerly Paramount+ but don't deadname it) and it sells next to nothing in terms of merch; the IP rights that it makes comic books for are held by its parent company (for reasons of not getting sued to shit and losing your assets because your editorial slipped up and libeled someone, or whatever) which is DC Entertainment or whatever the fuck that division of WB is called now; jimmy-jams and lunchboxes and displate prints and whatever-the-fucks are all licensed by it (as are the rights to make DC Comics - to DC Comics, because it doesn't own those rights itself) and for let's call it historical reasons DC Comics gets first dibs on those rights; but DC is really just three old in a trenchcoat pretending to be a real company, so PWBD isn't going to buy the TMNT comic rights back in (which would up its production costs anyway, rather than just collecting whatever IDW sends back)

either way DC Comics is not a "priceless" asset because you can very much see that it doesn't sell for shit in the real world; it's not in grocery stores, it's only in specialist stores, and it sells so low it doesn't even print its sales figures any more - we're not talking 2010 figures now, we're maybe at half that; that you can price
>>
>>155766898

>but DC is really just three old in a trenchcoat pretending to be a real company, so PWBD isn't going to buy the TMNT comic rights back in (which would up its production costs anyway, rather than just collecting whatever IDW sends back)
Good to know.
>>
>>155766898

That’s why they plan on letting the license run the clock until the renewal agreement runs out. The fact that Ellison chose not to touch DC itself and even pulled it out of WB’s divisions to become an entirely separate studio that answers only to him says a lot. You can headcanon as much as you’d like to insure your fantasy of IDW somehow magically keeping TMNT as a publisher as you want, it doesn’t change what Skydance will be doing even 5 or even 10 years into the future.
>>
>>155767047
So, again, why would Disney (who have shitloads more money than WB could dream of) let Dark Horse keep Star Wars? Just because they CAN take the license doesn't mean they have to.
>>
>>155766898
DC has the lion’s share of the comic boom market. It would be fucking stupid of them not to bring TMNT into their own publisher when they control this much marketshare.

If they weren’t as valuable, why the fuck hasn’t Ellison sold them off yet lmao. Your entire post reeks of wishful thinking.
>>
>>155767068
Because fucking Star Wars isn’t a comic book property. That’s why they do crossovers but have never merged the universes together.
>>
>>155767068
All of these licenses that Disney has whored out to publishers like Dynamite and Dark Horse were never comic book IPs to begin with nor were they established with a comic book franchise either (in the case of Alien and Predator).

There’s a reason why they’ve made a concerted effort to integrate Miracleman into the Marvel universe despite Gaiman’s rape allegations and the fact that Miracleman is a dated property that only most diehard capeshit nerds still care about.
>>
I'm pretty sure TMNT goes beyond just "comic book property" these days.
>>
>>155767187
Not when your movies & shows don't make money & your video game gets cancelled.
>>
>>155767187
It’s still a comic book property regardless of how much it’s expanded as a franchise.
>>
>>155767257
Cancelled then restarted.

This, it belong to Hasbro or nickelodeoon.
>>
>>155767579

Well, Mattel.
>>
>>155767579
Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom which was bought & absorbed into Paramount. The rights are Paramounts.
