Last time we took a detour to Cybertron, now we're back on Earth to focus on the part of Transformers everybody loves, the humans. Transform and roll out.Previous storytimes:>>155715906>>155733045>>155748820>>155763567

Okay, serious question, wtf exactly was the plot of this series, that Furman was leading up to? As near as I can tell the whole Sunstreaker headmaster plotline is garbage, and it's just Nova Prime being wanked as the ultimate big bad, using the death universe to spread mayhem. But beyond that, what?
>>155782078I don't Furman ever gave a gameplan for what he wanted to do. I wish we got to see the phase system happen in its entirety, before AHM shat all over that.
>>155782234I know he planned on Sunstreaker and Hunter to keep living as a happy headmaster but not much beyond that.I think what really buried this series is that it kept jumping between the crisis on Earth, and some random biblical threats elsewhere (thunderwing, dead universe garbage, etc). It had no focus whatsoever, plus all the relevant background info you had to get out of random one shots.Would've made a lot more sense if it was just one ongoing.
>>155778670can't believe I missed a thread
on second thought, perhaps it would need to have been 2 ongoings, one for the thunderwing / dead universe garbage and one for the story on Earth.>>155783449I missed three.
Also, all the dead universe garbage feels a lot like the continuation of the War Within series from Dreamwave. Even the few old Cybertronian modes that are shown are taken straight from the DW run (Grimlock and Megatron in their tank modes, Optimus in his old cab design, etc). It's probably why I considered the whole IDW run weird, it felt like a follow up to Dreamwave, with the Earth story being different.Dreamwave was a lot more cohesive, it felt like it was patching G1 to TF The Movie. IDW was just all around the place until All Hail Megatron.
>>155783430I guess it's mostly the Earth stuff as the immediate issue/problem with Nova Prime and the Dead Universe as the growing threat looming in the background?
>>155783856Man I need to check out Dreamwave, I think those tfwiki freaks poisoned my perception of it.
>>155784161Dreamwave has weirdly proportioned art because every artist is ghosting for Pat Lee or is ordered to draw like Pat Lee (who can't draw well), but when they are not doing that, it's pretty good. The G1 stories were all good and getting more and more interesting, especially as it was building up to TF The Movie. The non-G1 stuff was so-so.>>155784040No, the main storyline on Earth is just a couple of skirmishes and then nothing. The growing threat of Nova Prime is resolved in like 4 issues, and his fight with Optimus is done in one minute. For a looming huge threat, it gets done immediately; and the only purpose it serves is pulling autobots out of Earth while the Megatrons forces on Earth... do fuck all I guess? It just feels like that there are too many side stories, and while a lot of them come together in the Spotlight Revelation miniseries, it's all done and dusted in a few issues.
>>155782078We know the whole Sunstreaker/Hunter plot was meant to end up with them as a composite being, and the dialog suggesting that the Earth and cosmic plots would meet up with HuntStreaker being important in a lot of future battles.Instead, all Hail Megatron killed him off.
>>155784161It was storytimed already, check the archive.>>155784518Part of it is that Furman was forced to wrap things up early when IDW rebooted everything, so he couldn't tell the story he wanted.
Why did they decide to throw out Furman's plans? Last I recall, All Hail Megatron was supposed a What If story about the humanity fighting the Decepticons in a world where the Autobots never woke up.
>>155785437>he couldn't tell the story he wanted. But that's my question, what the fuck was the story he wanted to tell in the first place?
>>155785590Though it's reputation has somewhat improved over time, largely due to contrarians after the infamous AHM and woke "Phase Two" era, it can not be stressed enough towards how fucking reviled the infiltration minus were and Furman pushing human characters over the actual Transformers. The Thundering mini and e the very existence of Transformers Spotlight was IDW doing rapid damage control to force Furman to give fans what they wanted in terms of action and lore driven stories that focused on the transformers themselves rather than their human allies and everyone staying disguised.Furman resented this but had no choice but to do so he created the dead universe and made Nova Prime as a big bad, because he wanted new threats not rehashing Megatron, Unicorn, and Galvatron (who he eventually brought into the fold as a unique villain as his absolute last hail Mary to prevent AHM
Bayformers blows
>>155788406/thread
>>155785590it was partly that this all launched right before the first Bay movieHasbro had no idea what sold transformers toys - they never really knew, the first couple of years were mostly repackages of other people's toys with some new blurb, but even when they stopped bothering with the blurb entirely for the last few years the toys still sold in reasonable numbers; then G2 didn't sell well at all so they just put it down to trying to bottle lightningthe Beast era was moderately successful but nothing like as popular as G1 and when it ended they went back to G1-like designs for Armada etc; Dreamwave comics went explicitly back to G1 seeking that same audience for nostalgia (who remember would then have been in their 20s) but then G1 went under and IDW got the license; and IDW ok'd all these minis which sold about the same, I think comichron has them all on about 40k/issue, butBayformers was due out and the Bayformers comics IDW was doing didn't sell as well as the G1 comics, even after the movie was a success, and IDW probably panicked and thought "hey some noisy fans are saying we need more robots" even though there are literally TFs all through these minis, in robot mode, fighting each other even; and they looked at the exploding cutlery drawer movies with nonsensical plots and looked at the time it would take to reboot their G1 franchise and hired some dirt-cheap bogan to write AHM, taking the barest threads of continuity over, and that's how it all endedit's impossible to overstate just how reviled AHM was; anon will tell you that Furman's run had no robots and was hated but that isn't true because - get this - even AHM sold 40k/issue, to the same loudmouthed captive audience who would buy anything geewunonce IDW realized that they stopped trying and hired fanfic authors

>>155790566Furman and IDW have both admitted that early IDW was super rough sailing and that the negative fan response resulted in Stormbringer and the Spotlight series to win fans back after Furman explicitly went against type/fan expectations at the start of IDW TF. But the damage was done and Furman got the boot/given Regeneration One to do instead, while All Hail Megatron was launched to serve as a relaunch and a "course correction" to what fans wanted all along; but done so badly because Shane McCarthy only cared about shilling his pet character Drift combined with a half assed attempt to set up a new status quo from him partly due to IDW promising Furman that certain plot threads would be left unresolved due to Furman being promised around twelve issues (several spotlight issues and a 4-6 issue mini) to wrap up said plotlines with IDW stating that they would be set before AHM. But they never came to be because McCarthy killed Hunter and Sunstreaker and Furnan's plan hinged on using them
>>155778772I think I'll rank these humans as B-tier. Not ones I would want back but I don't find them annoying. Well mostly, Verity sometimes is too much of a bitch.
