the subtle undertone of 2020s liberalism almost always ruins what would otherwise be hilarious 00s random webcartoonery.
like look at this. really? the issue is that they're children? So it'd be okay if he wanted to brutally murder adults... fucking modern people don't understand roald dahl at all

except the antisemitism, sadly they have that part

I already started to drop him before he made that confederate flag video because I started to find him unfunny. Why do I need a lesson in political morality from a guy like that?

Those tricks wouldn't work on adults at all, which is the joke.

Burton-Wonka is accurate to the book, so it's better than Wilder-Wonka! Ignore all the random PTSD moments leading up to the daddy issues subplot.

There's a very small handful of people on the internet I dislike to such an extent I refuse to watch their vids because I don't want to add even a single view to their vids, which would give them either ad money or an algorithm boost due to interaction and he's one of those very few. It's to where I wouldn't even hate watch a vid, I just pretend they don't exist. So I can't comment on the vid you posted since I outright refuse to watch his stuff. It's only important to me on why I don't like him so I wont share why in thread. If you don't like him there's a good chance your reason is similar to mine.

>Burton-Wonka is accurate to the book, so it's better than Wilder-Wonka! Ignore all the random PTSD moments leading up to the daddy issues subplot.
It's so infuriating how these smooth brain dipshits treat "accuracy" as a virtue in itself when it comes to adaptations. These are the exact same morons that defend modern Marvel for being "just like the comics" despite the quality in general being worse across the board.

They also conveniently ignore how Dahl was a raging asshole that sabotaged the original films production the entire time.

The only advantage Burton Wonka had over Wilder Wonka is that it didn't have that boring ass 'Cheer Up Charlie' song that Charlie's mom sang, not to Charlie, but to a steaming vat of clothing, which slowed the pacing of the movie to an unbearable slog until it was over.

But yeah, other than that, Wilder Wonka was way better. Better, catchier songs, better Oompa Loompas, funnier jokes from Wonka, and no unnecessary visits to the dentist.

It's a grotesque parody of both the original book and Tim Burton's own house style. That film genuinely feels like the point where Burton lost the plot and started leaning into his own image over artistic integrity.

For example, there is zero reason as to why the world outside of Wonka's factory is just as much a gothic nightmare as the inside. The contrast between the factory and outside it is a huge element of the book and Gene Wilder movie, that's just gone in the Burton version. It's extra baffling because Burton HAS done that exact sort of contrast with Edward Scissorhands. But because Burton thinks his audience expects gloomy gothic shit, he just thoughtlessly paints the entire movie with the same brush. He does the same shit with the Live-Action Alice in Wonderland.

Anon, the issue isn't that he's making fun of the confederacy, it's that he thinks he's edgy and subversive for picking an easy target that hasn't been relevant since the fucking 1860's. It also plays into a weird, cringy tendency where left wingers act performative about how much they hate traitors to America when they don't actually give two shits about the country and are generally more bothered by confederates than the Union soldiers who actually fought them in the Civil War were.

Anon what the fuck are you even talking about? The village in the Gene Wilder's Wonka is more "mundane" that realistic. Because the film understands that Wonka's factory is supposed to be the fantasy land, and you need that contrast to sell the illusion at all.

Meanwhile the village in Burton's Wonka has straight up cartoon architecture. It doesn't feel like you're being whisked into a fantasy world when the kids step into Wonka's factory. Hell almost nothing really changes because every part of the movie is equally bizarre and gloomy to the point where it loses all impact.

A house having 'fucked up' proportions does not make it cRazY and cartoony, it just oversells the idea that it's poorly made and nearly crumbling to the ground, giving it more of a cozy and grounded atmosphere you'd expect from a poor neighboorhood in real life, only exaggerated for the sake of the fairy tail tone of the film, I don't know where you got the idea that it takes attention away from the factory when everything around both the house and the factory is just as lifeless and dull as a town in that setting would be in real life. It almost sounds like you expected brutalist soviet architecture, hobos sleeping around and trash everywhere just because the way it is is not "convincing enough" for you. You seem to forget that the kids that go into that factory (aside Charlie) are equally as goofy cartoons as the factory's inside and so is all the craze and hysteria behind the golden tickets and it's because the whole setting is subtly crazy and the factory only vocalizes those more fringe things of people and the socities that already make that world to make them stand out from the unimportant rest. The factory is not a counterpoint to its world but a reflection of it, exposed and accentuated to make the story's argument.
You treat Wonka like it's a Marvel movie or a generic anime Isekai where the premise is just as boring as a roller coaster ride when it's clearly inspired by movies like Jim Carrey's the Grinch where the setting is symbiotic to the larger than life characters and locations. Without the kids, the awful parents and the world going mad over the golden tickets, Wonka and his factory would not be complete and would've instead be flanderized versions of themselves meant to be marketed for mass apeal, like the old and soulless movie.
>>
>>155863644
>old and soulless movie

>it just oversells the idea that it's poorly made and nearly crumbling to the ground, giving it more of a cozy and grounded atmosphere you'd expect from a poor neighboorhood in real life
That is such a massive stretch it's almost impressive. How can you claim it to be "cozy" while also being "dull and lifeless"? Also you can't claim it's a "grounded" depiction while literally saying it's exaggerated right afterwards. Pick a fucking lane dude, you're contradicting yourself every other sentence.

You're just spouting word salad because you can't even defend this shit.

>I don't know where you got the idea that it takes attention away from the factory when everything around both the house and the factory is just as lifeless and dull as a town in that setting would be in real life.
Oh good lord, you're one of those people that confuses dull and gritty with realism. This is especially nonsensical when the original movie was filmed inside an actual rural village! They literally couldn't afford to do anything else! Burton created entire sets and greenscreen for the village scenes. Burton's version of the world outside is explicitly just as much a fantasy as inside the factory, which misses the point.

You're aware the original film does exactly that, right? That's what the whole mockumentary angle the first half of the film was going for. Also I didn't even mention the kids in the previous posts, mostly because them being exaggerated could be excused by them being, well, kids. They're also the least offensive part of Burton's version.

Maybe it was someone's first Wonka movie and they enjoyed it for what it was. I like aspects of the Burton Wonka "The Oompa Loompa songs being more varied, the art design, The Wonka suit design, Charlie being more subdued". But Gene Wilder is the superior Wonka to me, and the daddy issues felt random, tho I was happy ot see Christopher Lee.

The 60s version is the more whimsical memorable one in my book. But Burton's Wonka was one some of us here actually saw in theaters as kids. To compare, think of it like why some people like or love Fallout 3 even though New Vegas and the original 2 are better by comparison; Because it was someone's first, and that holds special place in the heart, even if flawed.

He "hated" the first movie because he saw it as little more than a cash grab to siphon money off of. He agreed to the film on the basis that he'd write the script, only for him to NOT do that and instead just gave the studio an unedited version of his book. He basically wanted to be paid TWICE for doing nothing. When the studio rejected that and got actual script writers to salvage the project, he had a months long tantrum and wrote the film off entirely.

So excuse me for not giving a flying shit about Dahl's opinion. Had he lived long enough to see the Burton film he would've done the exact same thing, because the film's actual quality was irrelevant.

If leaving the Union was simply about "Aristocrat slave LARPing" the border states would simply have seceded. They didn't because secession was not drawn on slavery lines, it was drawn on cultural lines along the old planter colonies which had a common culture as well as a history of secession. A common culture whose influence, formerly dominant in the US, was waning, and seeing the writing on the wall the Southern states elected to dissolve their ties with the Union.
