Having the OC deer be the focus of the story is such a weird decision. I guess the people with a hate-boner for Silver will like him being a side character. Also female deer don’t grow antlers unless they’re reindeer or caribou, which Dapple clearly isn’t. She resembles a white-tailed deer. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was Evan sneaking a trans character past Sega.

The main cast of superpowered veterans doesn't feel all that vulnerable. If anything, the story should have focused even more on her perspective uncovering the conspiracy. The heroes should have been larger than life and foreign to her, making it especially intimidating when they get controlled and she doesn't know who to trust.Drag in more of the cast to make it Sonic-ier and give them fun stupid uncanny fake town roles. If Sephiroth got the drop on more mainstays it'd make this random deer maid breaking the conditioning more impactful.Also I was gonna say "but Clove had horns too" but that might just be those little black tufts of fur some pronghorn doe have

You know how old TV shows like Magnum PI or Matlock would have one-off characters each episode? It's supposed to be like that. The problem is that those shows were able to build up an entire one-off character's identity in the first 4 minutes, while IDW's writers take forever to get anywhere. In a 30-page mini, the first 3 pages should've established Dapple as a character. It didn't, and so she feels forced because we're expecting more to her that won't ever be shown.

These short stories just aren't interesting enough to sustain interest. The overly drawn out Starline return is the only thing keeping any momentum. Which they are probably fully aware of, and is the reason it's being spread so thin.

The theming is wrong.Blackwood / Blaze parallels (rulership, duty, abilities)Followers (Blackwood forcing people to serve him, Blaze has people follow her willingly)Abilities (Blackwood gains a power he uses freely, Blaze has a power she actively holds back)This should've just been a Blaze solo. If I didn't have wageslavery to attend to I'd expand more on a rough outline of how this story should have gone while still having the action set pieces the writers wanted.
