This is a prequel showing (what else) Megatron's origin as a Decepticon, one that was originally meant to be a Dreamwave story but got forced into the IDW continuit after Dreamwave folded. Written by Eric Holmes with consultation by Simon Furman, but doesn't really have anything to do with Furman's plot.

And there's also Zeta Prime between Sentinel and Optimus. And the Autobots are upholding an oppressive regime enforcing 'functionism' on the population of Cybertron, where your alt-mode determines your career.It's clear that the Phase 2 guys would have liked to just reboot so they could start over and not be tied to plot points from this origin mini or Furman's run or AHM and Costa, but for whatever reason IDW didn't just reboot back then.

>>155884077Megatron Origin was being published around the same time as the second wave of five Spotlights, so all there was before it was Infiltration, Stormbringer, Escalation, and the first five Spotlights, none of which had really delved into the beginnings of the war, there wasn't any other IDW continuity going that far back.The continuity problems largely came years later, from Roberts and Barber trying to fit their own material together with what this mini had done.
