What are your expectations?
literally looks like AI
>>155878765>le neo noir cyberpunk with pixar animation what redditor came up with this?
>>155878795No, tard>>155878807Shut your hole
>>155878765As with everything I expect it to be shit.I can only be pleasantly surprised.
>>155878765Might be cool but also Netflix so Also don’t they already have some anime like this going on?
>>155878765It'll not be as good as if it stuck with 2D
>>155878868No, ESl
>>155878765don't really have any expectations just hope it's good
>>155878765Brad Bird is almost in his 70s.I know this sounds like a dick but there comes a point where you're just too old to make stuff anymore.
>>155878814Brad Bird...
>>155880740Not my fault you have craptaste
>>155878765dunno but I really hate the stupid bratz doll disney face on that bitch
>>155878807Just say you don't like the movie, I probably won't see it either but it would make you look less desperate for group approval than slapping reddit on things you don't like
>>155878765>doomers on a thread about a movie with hot women and based, non emasculated chadsThere's an infestation of homos in this thread
>>155879557But what if you make thing purposely old school and retro?
>>155881148It's/co/mblr, bro.
>>155878765this poster looks like a collage of 3 different things by 3 different people
>>155878765I'm sure it'll be fine but not exactly light the world on fire like the previous Skydance Animation moviesNow one of their next movies>Lasseter's return to the director's chair>it's Cars in Spacethat just sounds like a project that'll be fun to watch for all the wrong reasons
>>155878765it seems like an interesting movie but for some reason it radiates being completely forgotten. I don't know what it is about some individual aspects, maybe it's the aesthetic, maybe there's not enough of a "hook", but it makes me think of something like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a perfectly fine movie but chained down by some kind of phantom anchors, preventing it from being much more than a footnote and maybe the 'guilty pleasure' of a handful of film nerds. I have no idea why. It's not political, it's not generational, it just has this conceptual veneer of a background object. Something rendered on the last layer of the frame, after everything else. Immemorable.
>>155878765It'll be alright I suppose
>>155878765It will go down as a cult classic, endlessly glazed, but do either horrible in box office or barely make even.
>>155881867I agree, I feel like it's going to be remembered like "Oh, I heard that was good."
>>155878765I’m trying real hard not to get my hopes up too high because I want it to be more space opera but I know there’s going to be a heavy film noir influence as well. I fully expect it to be quickly forgotten like Over the Moon or The Wish Dragon or The Sea Beast. All movies I liked but was pleasantly surprised by, because I barely knew any of them were even coming out til I watched them and I had zero expectations for. Ray Gunn has a lot more hype to live up to for me as something trying to do a genre I already love but I’ve never seen a modern studio handle successfully.
>>155881829>it's not generationalNo, I’d say it is. SCatWoT was trying to emulate a genre intrinsically tied to a very specific era. Without the full influence and context of that era, it falls flat. They literally just cannot make science fiction like that anymore. I’ve seen them try over and over again and there’s always that magic missing.
>>155881867>box officeIsn’t it straight to streaming?
>>155881934So, anyway: Cult classic when?
>>155878765I hope it doesn't suck. Is that too much to ask for?
>>155878765Reviews are pretty great>>155882091It's getting enough screenings for an Oscar campaign. They'll be fighting Laika though by the sounds of it.>>155882014The Wish Dragon was an unexpectedly great kungfu movie. Weirdly it's getting a sequel but the concept art and story synopsis make it seem exactly the same as the first film, not even a "same story notes", the exact same story with the same characters. The Ping Pong rap battle in Over the Moon was great, the rest of the film, less so (Aside from the Glen Keane 2D section)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR8Ktwe51MU
>Eddie and the Beanstalk officially named by Skydance>plot is Eddies hooking up with the Giant's widowProbably will unveil it properly around the Ray Gunn release. Swapped was good, Ray Gunn looks to be really good, Looking forward to Not-Gigantic and Car-in-space by Lasseter.
>>155878765Nobody cares
>>155878765It looks meh. The fact Bird couldn't even deliver something worthy of a PG-13 rating further worries me that Ray Gunn will be hella generic. I also hate Skydance, but that's another conversation
>>155878795Facts.>>155878765No expectations, I ain't gonna watch this. Art doesn't look good, story doesn't sound promising. I'd rather watch The Incredibles 3, but only if it were better than the 2nd part.
>>155878765>What are your expectations?Brad Bird's last stand, nothing more, but I'd like a good hard boiled detective story first and a retro futuristic sci fi flick second. I dread the inevitable plot twist
>>155883679No
>>155883939Yes. You won't change my mind.
>>155884084That’s because it’s weak
>>155884106That's not how it works. If my mind were weak, it would be easy to change with any simple argument, but it's so strong that it can easily deflect all of your arguments, no matter how simple or complex. I've already made up my mind and I'm not changing it.
>>155878765With that name, I was expecting a heartwarming CGI movie of a breakdancing, talking female kangaroo trying to earn a spot on a human Olympic breakdancing team and take home the gold. Since this is some noir shit, I expect that he will eventually have his client, probably a woman, turn out to be the bad guy, and reveal this whole thing was an elaborate plot to kill him in revenge for something that occured before her sex change.
>>155883732>I'd like a good hard boiled detective story first and a retro futuristic sci fi flick second.Exact opposite for me.
>>155878765>what if...generic noir story...but animated...and some cyberpunk aesthetics...Now that's what I call creative bankruptcy.
>>155883732>inevitable plot twistJust from the trailer I’m guessing the femme fatale didn’t do the murder. Probably the murderer is her assistant who hires Ray in the first place.
>>155884161No
>>155884260It’s the kind of thing that an animator would come up with that a major studio would refuse to touch with a ten foot pole.I welcome it over generic quirk chungus teenage girl gets isekaied slop number nine.
>>155882537>The Ping Pong rap battle in Over the Moon was great, the rest of the film, less soI do not remember anything from Over the Moon aside from Ultraluminary and the ping pong game.
>>155884212Please tell me how the name Ray Gunn brings that image to your mind.
>>155884212>his client, probably a woman, turn out to be the bad guy, and reveal this whole thing was an elaborate plot to kill him in revenge for something that occured before her sex change.Reminds me of Ace Ventura, somewhat.
>>155882537Mommy.
>>155881148There are doomers in every thread. Wildwood of all things was getting a lot of hate too.
>>155884488Half ass female Australian olympic breakdancer, signature move was called The Kangaroo. Her name was Rachel Gunn, aka Ray Gun
>>155878765Visually pleasing, ok/meh plot. You're watching this because it's Brad Bird without Disney hovering over him; that's probably the one biggest draw for some beyond the Dieselpunk look.
>>155879557>there comes a point where you're just too old to make stuff anymore.Says you.
>>155881148Some people just want to be contrarian and assy because they can. You can give someone the absolute perfect thing and they'd still find something to whine about because they can.Doomers are just broken people
>>155878765That I’ll never watch it because it isn’t going to be in most theaters. Fuck Netflix. This is why paramount buying Warner Bros was better than them.
Generic and obvious.
Has anyone noticed the trail seem to hit frame for frame copies of scenes in Attack of the Clones?
>>155884312>Probably the murderer is her assistant who hires Ray in the first place.thats not a twist. thats literally the exact femme fatale stereotype. the woman who walks into the office and cries and asks the detective to solve the murder, is the murderer. thats the bit. thats the femme fatale.
>>155878765Looks mildly intriguing at best.
looks fineI've supported way worse
>>155879557Miyazaki would like to have a word with you, you little shit.
>>155887727But the dude who walks into the office begging for help is a simpy fag carrying a lapdog. So I guess the twist is that the femme fatale isn’t a lady then?
>>155888974>I've supported way worse Like... ?
>>155889448No
>>155878807Sounds like something a /pol/fag would do>dude I miss 2000s Pixar so much
>>155891057Seethe, loser
>>155878765>Ray GunnEvery time I see that name, I just think of that shitty breakdancer who embarrassed herself at the Olympics and made that her entire personality and brand.I am so numb to Netflix content being consistently dogshit that the Olympics nonsense overrides any thought I could have about a show I have no reason to hope for anyway.>>155882014After the Valerian movie, I have kind of just accepted that space opera is dead as a genre. Well, unless DUNC counts.
>>155891626>I have kind of just accepted that space opera is dead as a genrenot really, since Star Wars is still a thing, but a good space opera will never happen at this point, i'm afraid. Too boomer coded for the "modern audience" and too old-time sounding for the geezers with the big bucks>unless DUNC countsnot really, the new movies are basically watered down sci fi rather than space opera
>>155891626>Valerian And it started out so promising, too... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaGy7rwjsFE
>>155884488
Oh the chick is secretly some kind of artificial intelligence or robot and her managers want to keep it under wraps but she's starting to glitch out. That is my prediction.
>>155878765This would be less uninteresting if he was pinning for an alien women instead of some ugly human bitch.
>>155881148>>155881208>>155885127Overt doomerism is stupid, but living in delusion and pretending that things are going to turn out fine is arguably worse. Ray Gunn will probably do fine, but it won’t change much in the grand scheme of things, because we already know where the industry is headed, toward the continued dismantling of Western animation, a process that’s been going for the past 20+ years now.
>>155878795So the incredibles looked like ai to you? In 2004?
>>155884906Wildlooks looks like shit and is 3 hours of the most generic "award winning" kids find magical world omg we did it reddit YA novel adaption you've seen this decade. It's literally set in Portland. DoA and won't have cope fans like their other movies. Raygunn looks like a throwback and clearly angers faggots by just existing, so if it's better than a 6/10 and isn't hiding some tepid genre subversion it'll do numbers.
