He changed the pass so that the wedding never took place. So there will be no restoring of memories of them being married since it never happened.My point is is this they are no memories to recover what mephisto did was change the timeline, thus erasing the previous one. If Gertrude Yorke's parents used their time machine to go back in time to before Peter made the deal, they would also be traveling into the reality in which Peter and MJ were married. The reality in which Peter and MJ were just "really close romantic partners that lived with each other" only exists after the deal was made.
