Do you guys like Clayface? Obviously we have a movie coming out soon, but I was curious what Batman/DC fans general thoughts were on the villain. Is his muddied history a good or a bad thing? Should his alias be Basil Karlo or Matt Hagen? What should Clayface's primary motivation be as a Batman bad guy? Do you think the film will help or hurt his public image? Also just general question: how long can Clayface hold a form?
>>155883005>Do you guys like ClayfaceI do>Is his muddied history a good or a bad thing? It's not that muddied>Should his alias be Basil Karlo or Matt Hagen? They're two different characters but if it had to be one as an actor Basil Karlo would make more sense>What should Clayface's primary motivation be as a Batman bad guy?Wanting to be play the monster >Do you think the film will help or hurt his public image?Depends on the film
>>155883159The reason why its "muddled" is because the actor thing was Karlo but the mud monster bit was Hagen. Hell I don't think even think they merged until Batman TAS
>>155883220Basil already got Matt's powers before TAS in the Mudpack story
>>155883005I liked when they made him good in Rebirth.
The definitive version to me is the aging actor turned disaffected shapeshifter. I don't even want to let go of the idea he'd be kind of method-crazy and suggestible, and Batman can manipulate him with clips of his old characters. Mudpack happened to satisfy people like me, sorry.
>>155883005>Should his alias be Basil Karlo or Matt Hagen?I like Basil Karlo as a name more, plus that's where the actor thing comes from, so that.Recently DC just decided that Karlo and Hagen are the same person, he was born as Matt Hagen, but later changed to Basil Karlo, a name he got from his father.
>>155883585
>>155883005He's a big guy
>>155883159>They're two different characters but if it had to be one as an actor Basil Karlo would make more senseThe newest mini had Dr.bOctober say matt hagen was his birth name and basil karlo was a stage name
>>155883005i always found it interesting that he is both the big monster type villain and the sneaky shapeshifting kind.
>>155883005He's okay.
I hope the movie lives up to its Cronenberg inspirations, I’ll be really disappointed if we don’t get more scenes with the same amount of tension as when he’s trying to snip his eyelid with the makeup scissors on a plane undergoing turbulence.
>>155883005>Do you think the film will help or hurt his public image? If it's bad and flops, we'll get kind of a repeat of Morbius. If it's at least decent and successful enough, I could see DC start pushing Clayface in more stuff.
>>155883005He's neat but he cannot carry a movie on his own.
>>155883005Dang he could probably make his dick into a horse dick if he wanted to. And really break the bat or someone else
>>155888098Which of Batman’s rogue’s gallery do you think can carry a movie on their own? I could see Mr Freeze with the wife angle or Bane, not breaking the bat, but as a pro wrestler getting sober from venom
>>155883005No. I don't like him. He is a good poster boy of the weird escalation with batman villains. He was a guy who had some weird makeup and his face got bendy so logically of course he becomes a shapshifting clay monster with no human anatomy at all anymore and if he shape shifts into metal he is as hard as metal.
>>155888172i hear the scarface movie was nice
>>155888263Manbat would also be a good option if you tried to make it like a Hammer movie
>>155883005>Do you guys like Clayface? yeah he a'ight
>>155883005Clayface is cool and his debut episode in BTAS was one of several things that helped sold the show to me. It was also my first time seeing this character, so he had a great first impression.
Anyone seein his new movie?
>>155890174I want to see how it turns out so yes
Clayface works better as a villain when he's just doing the shapeshifting and identity swap thing like in the Arkham games. Im not the biggest fan of seeing Batman go up against his more super powered or paranormal foes like Ivy or fucking Gentlemen Ghost, just a matter of personal taste really and Clayface leans way harder in that direction compared to most of Batman's rogues. I like Clayface as a character more than his other super-leaning villains though specially when they lean on the metrosexual theater kid angle
>>155883585On the one hand, it makes sense for a shapeshifter. On the other hand, it was dumb when they did it with Flint Marko.
>>155883005He looks like a giant poop monster.I like poop.

>>155891111Beside Joker and Two Face, most of Batman's villains are just whatever the random scifi body horror DC came up with. Mr Freeze is a mutated superhuman, Killer Croc has a rare genetic condition that makes him devolve into some sort of missing link between human and reptile and Bane is a crime boss who uses super steroids. And i will argue that Mr Freeze is the most outlandish one since he is like Batman's own Lex Luthor, but at the end of the day, his most popular story coined by Bruce Tim/Paul Dini became his canon lore and it fits the tragic nature of Batman IP so the execution is more important than the idea.
>>155883005>Also just general question: how long can Clayface hold a form?Is it limited?
>>155883005Grew up thinking he was just another lame monster of the week type character, but I’ve grown to appreciate the whole troubled actor turned hideous monster backstory. The whole tragedy of it all is pretty intriguing. It’s like a twist on phantasm of the opera. I don’t care for the ones that aren’t Basil Karlo tho, since they don’t have as interesting a backstory
>>155883005the clayface tale in new52 the one with gregg hurtwitz is quite good.Did manapul and buccellatto ever used clayface?
Clayface books before fakefans and wikiepdia readers will come to /co/ next few weeks after live action film get released.
>>155893530Based
>>155883454Crazy to think how Mudpack isn't canon anymore due to original Basil and Matt being erased and replaced with a guy named Matt Hagen who changed his name to Basil Karlo.Wonder how that works now that the recent Clayface mini brought back Sondra and revealed Preston has been the fake Basil all along.
>>155883598>he was a makeup artistOh hey, that's from his Rebirth origin I believe.
>>155883585>>155883598>Clayface: Celebrity DirtLove the name, like the art style, waiting to see how the first arc resolves before passing judgement. I do like Clayface dicking around in Hollywood, though.
One of my fave Bat Rogues.Kinda worrying that he was left out of the Lego Batman game this year. Like they're trying to make him exclusively horror and not in mass media stuff.
Movie seems to be getting good reviews.
>>155894567Like Batman, he's a flexible character.
>>155893530Celebrity Dirt has nice covers
>>155888172Riddler easily.Victor Zsasz has promise but would need a good writer.Scarface for sure.Mad hater.Really depends what you want from the movie.
>>155892247Fair point. It's just that seeing Batman fight metahumans basically boils down to him bringing the right weapons and hitting them long enough while my personal taste towards Batman stories comes from him doing detective work or outsmarting his enemy's traps and escaping and whatnot. It's nice to have someone like Man Bat as a big monster that Batman can fight every now and than but too many metahumans and it just becomes "Batman brings the right suit and throws explosive batarangs" when it comes down to it. Clayface gets a pass because his specific skillset is incredibly versatile for fight scenes (again having to bring him up in Arkham) and good visuals
>>155891111>Gentlemen GhostBetter as a Hawkman villain anyway.
>>155893272His Arkham design is cinema
>>155892001Woah I didn't know Clayface was going to be a musical.
>>155891111>I like Clayface as a character more than his other super-leaning villains though specially when they lean on the metrosexual theater kid angleHe's not metrosexual he's flat out gay, as are all theater people
>>155894322>>155899748I can't believe Clayface is a metrosexual pansexual genderfluid woke chud.
