Why did every expanded material/tie-in to Watchmen fail?
>>
>>155885132
It's meant to be a one-off story that shits on the superhero genre. Anyone who wants to continue it is illiterate.
>>
>>155885258
>that shits on the superhero genre
Nope
>illiterate
Go back, onions
>>
>>155885132
Moore's gypsy curse
>>
>>155885132
Because they all had zero input from the guys who did the original story and even when they had people of talent making them they were done purely as vapid cash grabs. The prequels are utterly pointless, the sequels are retarded, none of them really understand the source material.
>>
>>155885258
>It's meant to be a one-off story that shits on the superhero genre.
the fact you think that, is exactly the problem
>>
>>155885132
WatchmeX is still the silver to Watchmen's gold.
>>
>>155885132
Because it's not by the original creators ya dingus
>>
>>155885132
I have neither watched the movie nor read the book, but the game failed cause it was an ultra derivative top-down beat-em-up XBLA game.
>>
>>155885555
John Higgins and Len Wein were involved in Before Watchmen.
>>
>>155886912
And? They were not the primary creatives. This is like selling yourself as the original band when all you've got is the bassist.
>>
>>155885258
>It's meant to be a one-off story that shits on the superhero genre. Anyone who wants to continue it is illiterate.
FPBP
Also, Alan Moore knows jackshit about politics.
>>
>>155886575
For a second I thought you were talking about the tabletop RPG before you mentioned the genre.
>>
>>155887341
He's 100% right about the infantilization of the masses making it even easier for leaders to wrangle them. The controversy is that he's using superhero movies as an example, and they're extremely popular, though he was wrong to just mention Fascism. He should have said dictatorship or something.
>>
>>155885132
It's because DC never employed a writer as good as Alan Moore, and if they did, they wouldn't fuck with Watchmen.
>>
Watchmen is a mystery story so what are you even left with if you already know the mystery?
>>
>guy writes a bunch of superhero comics people like
>Uh if you like superheroes your a stupid ass child
>Grow up and read my weirdo rape books
>>
>>155887341
Well, he has a deeply embedded political viewpoint, but he's still capable of critical thinking. He did say in an interview that he thinks communism* is something humanity isn't ready for yet and won't be any time soon, which in my book means he's at least wiser than all the people who want their socialist revolution now and think it'll work out great this time around.

*I forget whether he said communism or socialism.
>>
>>155888423
The only actual quote I know from Moore on communism is that it and capitalism are effectively the biggest gang ideologies, neither is right nor particularly concerned with being so just maintaining the operation.
It's how I know someone is a LARPer when they label him a Commie from "vibes" or the gag shirt photo.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Moore#Political_views
That and the fact the tension of WW3 in Watchmen stems from the Soviets antagonizing the situation in Afghanistan, a commie writer in the 80s would have made it the US with the Soviets framed as simply showing up to help their fellow man.

>He's 100% right about the infantilization of the masses making it even easier for leaders to wrangle them.
Yet unlike what Alan Moore was saying, MSM is degrading of heroes and heroism while promoting the idea of "greyness" to do that.

>The controversy is that he's using superhero movies as an example, and they're extremely popular, though he was wrong to just mention Fascism. He should have said dictatorship or something.
Also wrong. We are in no danger of a dictatorship. What we have to worry about is tyranny (or in more language Anarcho-tyranny).

I'm not going to say that the language is clear cut. He is warning about Hitler 2.0. People are trying to will Hitler 2.0 into existence. No matter how hard Zoomers try NatSoc will fail. It's the commie's ideal enemy, something without guile to project their faults & defeat. Nazi rhetoric is only making a comeback for "Brown" reasons and alienating the Right from the normies.

>>155888423
>>155888713
Low bar.
>>
>>155888389
Unraveling the rest of the story, the characters, and their world. The main murder mystery, in a way, opens up the rest of the comic upon rereads.
>>
>>155888772
>Anarcho-tyranny
Bullshit doublespeak term.
>>
>>155887341
Give him a break, he's speaking to morons
It was demonstrably proven that the media people consume completely warps their expectations of how the world works
Just look up some quotes from several administration's staff coming into the White House and realizing that shit they saw on West Wing wasn't real
>>
>>155887554
I genuinely find it annoying that “fascism” is a catch-all term for authoritarianism—most authoritarian regimes lack the palingenic ultranationalism that fascism requires. Most authoritarianism today isn’t even nationalistic—more atomized individuals seeking power than a myth of national rebirth.
>>
>>155888772
People deluded themselves to thinking that instilling Black and White thinking is the only way to make a Tyranny. Evil laws enforced equally can be changed and challenged. Selective Enforcement is the modus operandi of Tyrants. This is why Greyness is pushed everywhere.

Alan Moore made a comic about how superheroes are retarded and gay; but instead of pointing out the flaws of the industry, he made it about his retarded commie ideas. Now everybody is using their villains to sneak their retard ideas since we keep having this dialectic type conflict where the morally perfect hero beats the objectively evil badguy but hero takes aspect of the villain's beliefs like it is a threat to audience.

>Sam: Are you still going forward with resetting the borders?
>Sam: You have to stop calling them terrorists
>Sam: Your Peace Keeping troops, carrying weapons, are forcing millions of people into settlements around the world, right? What do you think those people are going to call you? These labels, terrorists, refugees, thug. They’re often used to get around the question ‘why.’
>Sam: I mean, this girl died trying to stop you. And no one has stopped for one second to ask why. You’ve got to do better. Senator, you’ve got to step up because if you don’t, the next Karli will, and you don’t want to see 2.0. People believed in her cause so much that they helped her defy the strongest governments in the world. Why do you think that is? A few people have just as much power as an insane God or misguided teenager. The question you have to ask yourself is how are you going to use it?

>>155888905
Doublespeak is a gay word. Words having multiple meaning is just language and goes against the idea of newspeak. Also, you are fucking wrong. What you mean is an oxymoron.

>>155888947
I have no idea what you are talking about and Alan Moore was never right on that issue.
>>
>>155889033
>Alan Moore made a comic about how superheroes are retarded and gay; but instead of pointing out the flaws of the industry, he made it about his retarded commie ideas.
You didn't understand the comic.
>>
>>155885132
The comic is popular on accident. The author intended everyone to disagree with and be horrified by the PoV characters, who are the logical extremes of superhero tropes, so extreme in their execution that it shows the very flaws of the idea. Except there was a problem. One of these characters is a detective who kills bad guys and does the right thing no matter what at any cost to himself or others. The author wanted to create a character who disgusted the audience, but instead everyone pretty much agreed with him.
>>
>>155889461
Wrong. He created a compelling character with a multitude of qualities, some good and some bad, and chose him out of all the others to guide the reader through the story. All that talk by Moore is from an increasing bitterness with Watchmen, DC, and comic book fans.
>>
>>155889545
There are multiple pov characters, its just people only connect the good one. Remember the part where blueman sat on mars or whatever and stared at earth and talked about how shit his life is and you the reader were disgusted by him because all of his problems are his fault alone? It was supposed to be like that with masketta man too execpt the reader doesnt get pissed when he starts hurting his friends to make a better world, because all of his friends made a worse world for their own pleasure and the world is just getting its pound of flesh.

You can continue anything.

>>155885565
True. Because creatives limit themself with that mindset. Customers just create a bubble for themself.

>>155887341
Moore is a case for itself. Most of these quotes are mostly babbles he drops in interviews and often it is just ideology driven.
>>
It's funny to me that none of the continuations acknowledge each other.

>tom king's miniseries is highly successful
>hbo's show is highly successful
>doomsday clock is highly successful
I don't like any of these, but why are you lying about them?
>>
>>155891944
There isnt that much. Before Watchmen is one big project. Rorschach (Tom King), Doomsday Clock, HBO.
And because none of those sem to be in the same universe. The before are all their own projects, trying to be insync with the graphic novel. HBO is something else with Watchmen skin. Rorschach (Tom King) is much more HBO universe but tries to be its own thing because HBO wasnt well recieved.

The comic starts and ends with Rorschach.

>before watchmen is highly successful
I dont think that this was that successfull. And was very hated.
>tom king's miniseries is highly successful
I remember that this sold good but wasnt well recieved.
>hbo's show is highly successful
We never saw real numbers, they didnt made a second season and asked about a second season they passed the ball into the others hands. I dont think that was successfull.
>doomsday clock is highly successful
Sold well but was hated to hell.

Dont know if all was so successfull.
>>
>>155892624
It only starts and ends with Rorschachs journal or narration. If you mean main characters, it ends with NiteOwl and Silk Spectre.
>>
>>155893427
Looks like they outsourced that to India. I dont believe that they are very successfull.
>>
>>155893688
No, it's great.
