>Spider-Man Epic Collection Vol. 1>one would imagine this to be an evergreen volume that people would constantly be buying>it is in fact out of print, and currently selling for $180 on AmazonWhy is Marvel like this? If they kept these epics in print, I'd have bought so many.
>>155902837Well hopefully they finally fix that with these
>>155902871Those look unwieldily but I'll take it I guess.
>>155902837It's partially that they are embarrassed by anything they published before the year 2000, save for 3 or 4 books. Also, partially it's because they're using the old "Disney vault" strategy, where they keep all this out of print and then do incredibly small print runs that sell out immediately, which looks really good on a p and l sheet even if it's stupid.
>>155902929It they're anything like the DC or image ones they're actually pretty decent. Easier to read than omnis
>>155902932There's just so many great Marvel runs I'd like to own, but I'm not starting in the middle. If I'm going to collect Peter David's Hulk, I want to start with his first issue and buy them in order. I would've given Marvel so much money by now if they just kept this shit in print.
>>155902994>If I'm going to collect Peter David's Hulk, I want to start with his first issue and buy them in order. This autistic mindset is one you need to drop. PAD was on that book for a VERY long time.
>>155903332Well I want to start at the beginning and read it in order.
>>155903332They're collection Mark Gruenwald's cap run in 4 omnis, they should be able to do the same for PADs Hulk.
>>155902837I'm sorry, but this run is NOT GOOD. It spends a lot of pages on fights and action and it's not good at it at all. The whole thing is clunky as hell. I don't see this being an evergreen.
>>155902837>one would imagine this to be an evergreen volume that people would constantly be buyingExcept it isn’t. People aren’t buying first stories of Spider-man in droves. Because most people aren’t interested in dated writing and simplistic, lame looking art. They want modern stories and better looking cool art. Not Ditko from the early 60s. That is exactly why first issues of Batman, Superman, etc. are never what people want to read unless they’re already fans and want to go to the beginning. How is this so goddamn difficult to understand? You people are always talking as pre-existing fanboys. You do not represent most people who actually make the majority of the paying public.
>>155903782I understand your sentiment but surely the option should be there for people. The problem is no one really knows where to start and the Shooter philosophy that any book could be a person’s first comic doesn’t work because there’s just heaps of stuff, not just from the character but the whole universe of characters from the publisher. It’s a mess and it’s why people take to alternative universes and one-shots because they don’t need to be a lifer or a wiki browser to enjoy them. To be honest I don’t see a solution other than just rolling with a book until you get bored and move on, which was the intent back in the day.
>>155903782Spider-Man is different. The original Batman and Superman comics are goofy and have very little in common with the modern versions of the characters. But for Spider-Man, these stories are still fully canon, and the earliest issues introduce a ton of his classic villains.
>>155903714I think most would disagree with you. Every time they reprint this run the Spider-Man comics get more fans because it is one of Marvel's most evergreen comics, the charm of it is timeless
>>155903782The Lee/Ditko and Lee/Romita ASM runs are genuinely really good and I can't stand reading most comics from that era. When I decided to read ASM from the beginning, I expected it to be a slog to get through the Lee years, but it's a good read from early on.
