All these years later and I'm still pissed about this stupid episode, "Simple Simpson." It's such a dumb concept. "Pie Man"? Seriously. All the jokes were really dumb and the worst part is, we never even learn who Pie Man was. It couldn't have been Homer, this picture clearly proved it.Stupid ass zombie Simpsons episode.
>Farmer Billy's Slow-Killed Bacon? Farmer Billy's Bacon-Fed Bacon? Farmer Billy's Travel Bacon?>Mr Simpson, if you really want to kill yourself, I also sell handguns.
>>155905509This episode is really stupid but oddly sentimental. Homer becoming a superhero to protect his kids and give the people of Springfield hope is actually really sweet and the sheer dumbness of it actually makes it feel more sincere.Zombie Simpsons episodes from this era are criticized for "Jerkass Homer" and lazily relying on "Homer is a glutton" gags, so seeing an episode where he actually goes out of his way to help people and becomes so invested in it he *forgets pies are food* feels genuinely refreshing. Homer's interactions with Lisa this episode are absolutely adorable.Maybe it's just the fact that I saw this episode as a kid, but I have a soft spot for it, despite looking back on most of the episodes from this era and thinking they're stupid.
>>155905509it's typical Al Jean Reddit humor
>>155905509It’s your own fault for watching any post Behind The Laughter Simpsons.
>>155906051>Reddit humorNope
>>155905685While the episode is very bad, I guess it is not nearly as shit as what the show became. It had the added handicap of being part of the first "truly ugly we cant pretend this can be saved" seasons (13-15) coming after the short period that still had some redeemable episodes that made people think it was just a bad phase (seasons 10-12).Now we have the disney seasons and pie man looks *almost* good in hindsight
>>155906087IMO even zombie Simpsons has a few gems. As dumb as this episode is it's definitely fun, and it got a few laughs out of me on a rewatch. I genuinely have a soft spot for it, though I'll acknowledge it's dumb. The problem with Zombie Simpsons isn't that it's always bad, it's that it isn't consistently good enough to justify the series still going, especially when there's an obvious seasonal decay that keeps getting worse. It's just like the "I think the sandwich is starting to turn" gag.
>>155905509I find it funny that, last year during the Superman movie hype. A south american youtuber made an edit of an captain america panel for a thumbnail and it turned into a trend of editing/drawing pie man art
>>155905509Even so-called "Golden Age" Simpsons wasn't immune to just introducing new characters and then never expanding on them
>>155906069"Reddit" has become a meaningless non-word people toss into comments that vaguely means "bad".
>>155907445That's not the issue here. Like anything it's the execution.

>>155907518>>155907443Pie Man has an unironically cool design. It's funny, but it's also aesthetically pleasing with the way it balances colors and shapes.

>>155907443It was a fun trend.

>>155907554Indeed it was
>>155905509This may be a controversial take, but I think early Jean-era Simpsons was better than most of Scully-era Simpsons. The Scully-era had some real stinkers. major lows with very few highs. Early-Jean didn't have the same highs but had way fewer lows. The problem was that somewhere down the line Jean decided he wasn't going to step down as showrunner until he hit retirement age and you could see it slowly melt away into slop.
>>155907554I only wish it caught on with burgers as well, I think it was mostly latinos making edits.
>>155907660Scully era is wacky cartoon antics and everyone being more of an asshole than usualJean era is shmaltzy "wholesome" sitcom antics with a LOT of celebrity worship
>>155907445>comes from a place far a way>wants to invest in the local nuclear plant>many like how he thinksI'd say he was expanded upon just fine
>>155907531The Homermobile deserved to stick around and I'm annoyed it didnt
Anybody else find themselves wishing we'd gotten a Radioactive Man animated series instead of disenchanted?
