>She did her best
Oh boy, here we go
>doesn’t listen to any of her friends, mentors, or family about her blatantly evil uncle
>goes along with his asinine plan
>ends up doing what he wanted excluding the dark avatar shit and keeping the spirit portals open
>this leads to zaheer getting air bending, and all the other issues for the rest of the series like spirit running rampant and the spirit vines
>portals being opened poisons the world and leads to it being destroyed
>has to get bailed out at every turn by the people she didn’t listen too
Shes the worst.
>inb4 w-well aang ran away
Aang was a child, not to mention he didn’t want to end up in the iceberg, if shit went well he would have went back to the temple after calming down, he has a thing where he goes off to be alone when he’s stressed out.

>>
>>155933142
Her best was half-assed, mediocre and no where near sufficient. She should have never been avatar.
>>
>>155933142
It is her fault
She was constantly reckless and feckless as everyone in her circle kept saying "slow down and think." She refused. The result was an actual apocalypse.
>>
The fact that people defend her for the sole reason that they revealed she also liked pussy in the last 10 seconds of the show.
>>
Korra deserved better writers. Bryke had no idea how to handle an ATLA sequel, had no people editing their first drafts, and ended up yo-yoing between different tones and ideas for four seasons straight. Should have stuck with their original vision. TLoK season 1 was actually great overall.
>>
>>155933527
Nah it was shit, if Amon had actually been legit then it might have been decent. Instead they made him a fake with an easily-washed off makeup job to be slapped down in short order at the end because they were too incompetent as writer to actually resolve what he represented.
>>
>>155933527
That's partly because they moved away from a "mythical" setting that relies on tropes for worldbuilding to one that actually tried to have a lived-in world with multiple rational factions and that doesn't really work in Avatar.

When random people can shoot fuckin fire out of their hands at WAY higher energy than the food they ate its silly for their society to struggle with anything that isn't war.
>>
>>155933563
Like - bending inequality? The fuck? Nigga people with abundant free energy and food don't whine about other people providing the energy. Shit's retarded.
>>
>>155933572
People literally have abundant energy and food in the first world yet still whine about the people providing their way of life. You retard.
>>
I would have liked TLOK more if Korra wasn't written like a retard.
>>
>>155933655
They were just writing what they know
>>
>>155933630
>The first world has abundant FREE energy
Dumbass.
>>
>>155933938
>>155933630
Sorry, I really want to hammer this home for you.

In Avatar world you can build a functioning nuclear reactor's worth of power by feeding a small troupe of douchebags to boil water in shifts.
You can run a hydroelectric power plant off a bunch of old cunts moving the water wheel.
Bending breaks conservation of energy over its knee
>>
>>155933655
>>155933673
You know what's funny, I actually like everybody else, but her.
>>
>>155933262
Here we go indeed.

Nobody warned her, plan wasn't viewed as asinine by anyone, not his plan.

The spirit vines in Republic City were summoned by Unavatu and no spirits really ran amok.

Poisoning the world is you bad fan fiction.

Also not true.

You people are equally exhausting and retarded.
>>
>>155933527
this. korra was never the issue, i wanted to like her and kept trying to, but they kept writing her as a dumbass who was also a weakling despite being built up as a strong fighter who was a prodigy
>>
>>155934453
Korra was part of the issue, as part of the wider terrible writing she was a terrible retard of a protagonist
>>
Haven't seen Seven Havens yet.
Does she and the rest of the cast get shit on more there?
>>
>>155933655
Yeah, this. She's perfectly fine, even likable, up until the writers make her do the dumbest decisions possible to brute force the plot forward. Then they bail her out so she doesn't learn anything, or if she does learn something, it's reset next season, or she doesn't become noticeably stronger after having learned it.
>>
>>155934450
he's right and you're lying though
>>
>>155934450
>Nobody warned her
Yes they did, everyone told her not to trust Unalaq
>The spirit vines in Republic City were summoned by Unavatu
The guy she aided and abetted despite everyone saying not to trust him.
>Poisoning the world is you bad fan fiction
That’s literally the reason why the world ended in Seven Havens.
>You people are equally exhausting and retarded
You’re fighting a battle that was lost years ago and still desperately trying to defend a shit character who needs an entire other series just to try and make people not think she is a complete fuck up. Get the fuck over yourself and accept reality.
>>
>>155934460
she can only be part of the issue because they wrote her that way. she's a fictional character, she has zero agency. 100% of what's wrong with her as a character has to do with what went on in the writer's room. her voice acting and design and even personality are perfect, it's what they did with all that that's the problem. you have have a meathead protagonist who's stubborn, but when they reset their character development and make out of character decisions, that's the writer's fault, 100%
>>
>>155934485
everyone shits on Korra, but no one really knows what happened as apparently all information of the past was somehow destroyed, so that 99% of all people think all the avatars were evil.
But it's clear is all a pretty obvious red herring
>>
>>155934485
Korra hasn't appeared in 7H at all yet, apart from being a caricatured villain in a short play during a festival, mentioned in passing, as part of an advertisement on a bench in some ruins, and as wooden carving. We've only seen footage of her in trailers. The rest of the TLoK cast haven't had any mentioned or appearances, except Asami, who also appears as a wooden carving. One of the protagonists makes the wood carvings kiss and giggles, it's kinda cute and funny.
>>
>>155934548

>>
>>155934578
We literally see her open the fucking portals in book 2 of TLOK.
>>
>>155934506
>Yes they did, everyone told her not to trust Unalaq

When Korra to Tenzin she wanted Unalaq as a teacher, he stepped aside after a short protest. Her Dad went with her to open the Portal in the South. Her dad didn't want the portal open due his bad experience with Spirits at the Northern Portal, not because he knew Unalaq was up to something.

Korra was manipulated by Unalaq down the line, but everyone else fell for it as well.

I know that scene was just a cute pile of easter eggs in this children’s cartoon show. But, as a fan of history museums, seeing that many artifacts from one very specific time period and one very specific circle of people sorta bothered me. She was an utter dumbass and I feel horrible for Pavi and Nisha when they reconnect with the Avatars of old...and have to deal with her.
But probably that newly announced comic trilogy that will connect ALoK and ASH will shed some light on the series of events that led to the world become as it is now.

Probably got possessed by something which could've been avoided if she weren't such an utter dumbass.

>>
>>155949203
She genuinely just needed a man that wasn't a pussy around her. I know this is usual dykebreaking joke but with korra it's so obvious. It's why tenzin did more for her than most other teachers his only flaw was he was still the "goofy dad" concept. Korra needed someone ironically like toph who wouldn't spare her feelings and would beat her down to show her she wasn't the best and would tell her a lot of her ideas were shit.
>>
>>155947927
It's a reference to a youtube skit. The guy making the skit was mocking the tendency of some media to make the "secret antagonist" CLEARLY evil from the audience point of view, but the in-universe characters are completely clueless and fall for the trick, and you are forced witness the characters be dumbasses for a dozen hours until they finally catch up.

Also, don't take me for a Korra hater. I love Korra and TLOK. I am also incredibly frustrated with the wasted potential, and I believe an additional round of editing would have made TLOK phenomenal. Instead, we are stuck with unnecessary love drama and Korra's character regressing to the same three year old of the introduction at regular intervals.

The problem is that the Avatar is simply too powerful for almost anyone to realistically stand a chance against. Obviously, Korra could win most fights almost instantly if she fought at her full potential, but that wouldn't make for an epic, high-stakes season finale.
So, one way or another, the writers had to weaken or handicap Korra to give her opponents a fighting chance. In Season 1, they established that even Aang could be immobilized by bloodbending, and Korra had most of her bending taken away, only unlocking airbending at the end to defeat Amon. In Season 3, she was literally fighting with poison running through her body. And in Season 4, she was dealing with severe psychological trauma.
Kuvira, for example, is no match for a fully realized Avatar. That's why Korra barely uses the Avatar State against her, keeping the fight relatively even. It's not that Korra is a weak fighter. It's that the writers constantly had to come up with ways to prevent her from being as powerful as she actually was.

Nice reddit tier comeback, faggot. And you came back just to show you have nothing else and are just going to act like a weepy retard who keeps showing he can’t handle being wrong.
>Anyway, the question was did Korra ignore warnings the Unalaq was evil, the answer is no. You provided zero evidence to the contrary
Aside from the fact he was desperate to isolate Korra from everyone she’s known while taking advantage of her naivety and rebellious streak to go against Tenzin and her father’s wishes. You know what was presented and are pretending not to understand it.
>I'm done
I doubt it, you’re either going to comeback outright or try to samefag again. But whatever run away after getting btfo for the umpteenth time.
>good luck on your attempts at self fellatio
Projection isn’t healthy, especially since you’re the one who tried saying everyone was dumb to cope with being wrong.

I would have liked Korra if she had a good excuse for being a retard.
They really should have made her a country bumpkin from the swamp tribe. At least then her arrogance and ineptitude would have been charming and comical instead of frustrating

I think the issue here isn’t that Korra didn’t get sufficient warning about Unalaq, but rather that because she’s a girlboss sperg who thinks she’s never wrong until she’s proven wrong, she lacked the basic intuition to infer that despite being family, her uncle might be up to no good.
>>
>>155951874
You're missing the point.
The problem with Korra is that she's spent her entire life knowing that she was the Avatar. Northern and Southern tribes are the first places they'd look, especially with proximity to Katara. She was swept up and identified since she was a little girl and exposed to the entire world.
She needed to be from somewhere that was actually reluctant or resistant to modernity to justify her big fish in a small pond mental

Honestly this.
We were grossly deprived of a Toph Like rise to fame where Korra got her start as a professional mud wrestling champion, and the joke being that no one, including her, caught on that she was only good at it because she was incorporating earth bending into a water bending competition without even realizing it.
>>
>>155952707
Eh that would've invalidated her previous wins and her sense of self worth would've been built on a lie
>>
>>155951874
I wouldn’t say she’s a bumpkin, her dad is the chief of the Southern tribe isn’t he?
That makes Korra practically a princess.

The "Lie" is that she's the Avatar, and the validation is that she managed to learn earth bending without a teacher.
Both of which would stoke her ego, and the comedy from that being her walking up to a city council and bragging, with out irony, that she's the greatest mud slinger in the world.
The plot practically writes itself

>>155952177
She was raised in a compound with very little contact with others & the real world. It's only natural she'd be naive.

Tenzin & her father were right there with her and they didn't say anything. Tonraq questioned going into the portal but that was because of his experiences in the North. Unalaq's troops didn't arrive until the portal was opened.
>>
>>155952856
>isn't really all that impressive since we've seen so many characters by now earthbend without having been taught
Korra wouldn't know that. She's her only frame of reference.
The point is to make Korra's arrogance forgivable and due to a lack of exposure. Because you can at least grow out of ignorance
>>
>>155952177
She wasn't wrong. The spirits were becoming a problem that were preventing the south from trading and would slowly end up causing them starve and neither Tenzin nor Tonraq had a solution to it. Tenzin wanted her to ignore her home and continue training at the air temple with him out of pride knowing that he struggled with spirtuality and Tonraq had no reasonable objections. Is the non girlboss smart thing to do to let your people suffer the wrath of the spirits when your job is to be the balance between the two worlds?

That is not known yet. It's a common assumption, but it could also turn out that differently.

At this point it's still possible that a completely external threat caused the Cataclysm. Like maybe a huge meteor struck the planet or something like that. And maybe the spirit portals actually helped Korra power up and save the mankind from complete extinction. In such a scenario, her decision to keep the portals open would be vindicated.

However, if it turns out that keeping the spirit portals open did actually cause the Cataclysm, then yeah; Korra will be a much more colossal fuck-up than previously thought.

Honestly a chad non-bender who used the more military grade weaponery would have been cool. They tried to pretend that was asami but she literally was rich and had the same tech the chi blockers had and was a worse fighter. In s1 imagine if they did introduce a not batman/punisher non bender who fights benders with whatever scraps he has at first they think he's a equalist or whatever they were called. But nope he doesn't trust them either and he is used as a reasonable non-bender middle ground he knows non-benders aren't perfect but benders do get to cocky with their powers and egos so he puts them in their place.

"Who better to resolve a crisis between our world and the Spirit World than the Avatar himself? You are the great bridge between man and spirits."
- ATLA Book 1, Chapter 7
>>
Does anyone else think its a bit of a cop out that Pavi is basically Aang 2.0 and Nisha is basically Korra 2.0? Seems like the writers didnt want to stray too far into original character with original personality territory and took the lazy option of bringing back both protagonists from the previous entries with a new coat of paint.

Even having one of them be the dark avatar would have been better than this.

I’m talking about the Avatar explicitly being the janitor of BOTH the spirtual and mortal realm, not just resolving conflicts between the two
>inb4 the spirit problem in Korra was a conflict between the two
No it wasn’t, it was a one-sided hostile invasion by one world into the other caused by Unalaq fucking around trying to figure out how to become the Dark Avatar.
>>
>>155960144
You're free to blame Unalaq for the spiritfuckery in Book 2, but it was evidently not his fault, at least jot entirely. That a dark spirit attacked Korra when Unalaq's kids were chasing her and potentially ruining his plan could not have possibly been part of his, well, plan. If it's one thing LoK tries to tell you over and over again, it's that in their minds, Amon, Unalaq, or Zaheer were completely righteous, and had the greater good in mind. And of the three, Amon and Zaheer were simply just too extreme in their methods, similar sentiments already existed within other characters, like that offhand comment about the Earth Queen by Suyin. Unalaq simply became too hungry for power later on, but he was initially aligned with the Red Lotus. Dark spirits were not a problem he brought forth.
>>
Korra had to face real problems that dwarfed everything Aang went through. Aang was a Mary Sue who had the entire world constantly trying to help him succed and he only had ONE antagonist to face down and his self imposed pacifism made it artificially difficult.

Korra had to face down numerous antagonists and solve complex political issues that were far more difficult to navigate than anything Aang had to deal with. The stakes for Korra were literally the fate of the world. What were Aangs stakes? The fire nation winning a war?

People just want to hate on Korra because shes a woman and the incel manchildren who grew up watching ATLA just cant take off the noatalgia goggles to give her a fair assessment.
>>
>>155960144
>No it wasn’t, it was a one-sided hostile invasion by one world into the other caused by Unalaq fucking around trying to figure out how to become the Dark Avatar.
No it was not. Unalaq was not lying when he said its because the world has become out of touch with the spirit realm especially the south. When Korra and Jinora go to the spirit realm there are moments with the spirit realm that reinforce this. Its similar to how hei bai was upset at the forest's mistreatment

If LoK were written the way ATLA was, I assume Zaheer and the red lotus would be the Ozai analog. Unalaq would have been akin to Zhao (both of them caused significant changes to the balance of the world though in the case of Zhao it was resolved within a single episode due to Yue). Amon may not have existed, and Kuvira was sort of like Long Feng, wasn't she? LoK takes a different approach from ATLA due to Nickelodeon's faggotry, in that at first it was written such that it would end at season 1 with a possible follow-up. While ATLA was written with with the ending already in mind. Just with some changes like Toph or Azula's gender.

And I don't know what you're talking about in terms of development. Zaheer was developed very nicely, much better than Ozai. Amon was the only villain that I felt was a little undercooked save for a five minute flashback. Unalaq is on the same level of development as Ozai.

TLA
>aang starts his world trek
>hits up the southern air temple and has a freakout
>establishes himself on kyoshi and basically gains them as lifelong allies
>meets up with his bro bumi
>infiltrates a fire nation prison and frees a whole bunch of people

TLOK
>korra goes to republic city, wacky antics ensue
>starts pro bending
>infiltrates an equalist rally and saves some people from losing their bending
>gets her first PTSD scenario from amon because he's funny like that
>gets in a big fight at the arena during an equalist attack

SH
>storms happen sometimes
>a glowing red thing shows up and knocks some tables over

>evil glowing rocks are bad but no one really cares
>there's bandits and they do things in the city sometimes
>pavi has a sister and gets a metal leg

I'm glad I gave the movie and Seven Havens a shot today. The movie was great if a little stiff in terms of the story. Seven Havens' animation barely scrapes mid but it's interesting enough. I wish they'd put more into Pahvi's leg in the first three episodes rather than cramming it into episode six. Korra literally did everything wrong and she should be ashamed of herself.

Also Korra and the twins make Aang look like a fucking retard, rather than the prodigy he was, because little girls even younger than him have basically mastery of the elements immediately. It's disgusting. I know for the purpose of an interesting story they need to be young and able to bend but Aang did great for over a dozen episodes barely being able to bend a bit of water, and struggling with it at first, and just doing air. I would have preferred to see the girls use primarily Earth, and too early mastery of all four elements as a sign of being a "bad" avatar.

Overall 7/10 worth watching.

Yeah its filled with kino character moments but a lot of it wasn't really overarching plot advancement. What ATLA benefitted from that both korra and seven havens wont get to have is the episode count. They knew they had 20 episodes so they could spend a lot of time doing one off mini stories that don't necessarily advance the plot but do advance the characters because they have more than enough time. But if you were to criticize or judge the show because of overarching plot advancements then book one has a lot of dead episodes some of which are considered favorites like kyoshi island, Aang's trial, the one with the fortune teller and the volcano

the problem with shows like this one that have shorter seasons is that they frontload and backload the story progression and have a bunch of filler in the middle, instead of it being a more natural progression from start to finish; the pacing is just ass. i get why they do it: reviewers get advanced screenings of the first few episodes, so they frontload the plot so the reviewers will write positive reviews, then they backload the plot at the end to draw people back in who stopped caring around the middle, but this doesn't make for an enjoyable viewing experience, especially during rewatches

>Hag Korra
>Is still the same retarded and volatile brute she always was
>But now age is catching up to her: her body aches, gets tired fast and is prone to fall asleep if idle for too long
>Her cloak is not for cold climates or looking cool, is because she feels cold everywhere (even during the cataclysm)
>Probably keeps hard candy under her cloak
Old Korra love

the only way to redeem this show is to have tonnes of gay pandering all throughout then right at the end suddenly make all the gay guys end up with women that they barely interacted with

Man this https://web.archive.org/web/20191224171347/https://pastebin.com/AvW35U8u
now seems like the vastly more desirable outcome.

>She sits down heavily in the special order seal-lion upholstered bucket seat, her sigh is clipped as you close the door for her, not quite hard enough to be a slam but enough that you can see her start forward a little in her seat. From this close and at such a high angle the glass doesn’t totally obscure the inside of the car. No one finds this unusual or even seems to take notice and you flash the chauffeur a winning smile while flipping him an extra buck. You reach for the driver’s door handle, for the briefest instant concern flairs up. The chauffeur has parked too close to the entrance, somebody could see in. “Has she started yet?” you wonder. No, she’s been a very good girl lately much better than during the first year. You glance back at the theatre arch, nobody has exited for over two minutes; a few simpering dilettantes are chatting about 20 yards ahead on the walk. Good. You open the door quickly, step in, and close it hard, once again not quite a slam but just enough that you see her eyes dart to you for an instant before returning to her lap.

Korrabuse is best abuse.

>Unalaq is on the same level of development as Ozai.
Actually, no.
We don’t even know why Unalaq does what he does.
Why was the guy able to purify spirits, and why did he want to become a dark god who hated humans?
Ozai is a simple villain, but everything about him makes sense.

you might not like to admit it but Unalaq was one of the more compelling villains for how he represented abuse from a close family member.

Aang never had to go through anything like that.
>>
>>155950111
This was always an issue with the Avatar State in that it was too strong, in the original series as well. I feel like the writers must have some regret establishing it in the way they did
>>
>>155965119
>>155950111
Its the classic superman dilemma. Either the villain has to get scaled to be juat as absurdly strong which leads to power wank. Or the Hero has to have some arbitrary weakness introduced that then gets overused and seems corny with how often its invoked.

Otherwise you get something like One Punch Man where the hero can just instantly wreck the villain and the series becomes a joke.

This season could have been amazing, had they managed to fool the audience too. Unfortunately, I think everyone and their mother saw this coming the moment Unalaq first came on the screen, and having to watch the whole main cast get fooled by this mustache-twirling charlatan for hours was so frustrating that by the final showdown, the audience has basically tuned out.

Again, like most of Korra, it's not an idea problem, it's not a theme problem. They simply fucked up the execution.

It seems entirely out of character for Asami to wanna be a proper industrialist now given how the development of Book 4 resulted in Republic City getting nuked by Kuriva. I sooner believe that other fake leak about how Korra, Raava and Vaatu all team together to battle the earth spirit.
>>
>>155975310

Turning Asami evil would be the funniest goddamn thing ever because Korrsami apologists would unironically threaten to arson Nick studios for even humoring the idea that Korra's fuck meat now hates her now and wants to focus on her "career" which is what I have wanted since Book 2.

They wont turn her evil because theyre cowards. if they really want a good reason for Korra to tard rage so hard it dooms the human race 200 years late into the future literally just create a scenario where Asami realizes that loving Korra has a novelty to it but its completely empty because being known simply as "the trophy wife of the Avatar" wouldnt appeal to someone like her. Yeah every now and then you have the usual people like Roku or Aang who get a girl, they get married, have kids, have grandkids but even Katara had a life outside of Aang's wife.

Why shouldnt Asami have a life outside of Korra. It would be so easy. Remember that scene in Invincible where Debbie complained how she wanted to be more then just the wife of Omniman (which granted she ended up wanting just that much later) but the same idea applies the same. Asami should have personal goals, careers and expectations she should set for herself and she shouldnt need Korra to give her permission to wanna act out on them.
>>
>>155976271
She wouldn’t be evil. Korra would go along with it until the world got so out of balance that she had to instigate the cataclysm
>>

That would unironically almost be better because not only does she turn evil but because Korra's an idiot she argues with everyone else how her wife couldnt possibly be doing something wrong

>you might not like to admit it but Unalaq was one of the more compelling villains
The idea of Unalaq was great. The execution of the idea and dork avatar stuff was not. Also the animation in S2 done by the studio that did Naruto was fucking trash and also contributed to ruining the season.

How has this thread not hit bump limit yet?

because it doesn't have avatar in the subject field and there's been like 6-8 avatar threads that've happened since this one's been up

>Dravidians aren’t responsible for Buddhism
Nigga wat, the most reverred figure in Tibetan Buddhism (Air Nomad inspiration) after the Buddha, is Dravidian

Funniest thing I've found out in all this discourse is that the people going on about how India isn't Asia are mostly whites who have nothing to do with Asia and nor have any idea how much of the general Asian culture comes from India.

They're the equivalent of people posting "save the White race" from somewhere in Indonesia
>>
didn't this guy say he was 'done' ages ago

Funniest thing I've found out in all this discourse is that the people going on about how India is Asian are mostly Indians or self-hating whites who have never had to work alongside an Indian and who don't have any idea how much the general Asian culture dislikes India.

They're the equivalent of people posting "open our borders" from somewhere inside a gated community

Funniest thing I've found out in all this discourse is that the people going on about how Ellora needs to reach out to other Havens are mostly benders or secret society members who have never had to work alongside another Haven and who don't have any idea how much the other six havens dislike Ellora.

They're the equivalent of people who used to post "Long live the Earth Queen" from somewhere in the outer circle of Ba Sing Se

That doesn't really change the geographical and cultural fact though. America doesn't stop being North Americans because Canada and Mexico hate them nor does America's influence on their culture disappear because of it
>>
I don't know, as a Bangladeshi I can attest to how much all the other countries in Asia hate Indians but you can't deny their cultural heritage and significance. And that's what's being transferred to the show, not scamming, pickpocketing, streetshitting, cowdung worship, what have you. You're seeing a much nicer version of India, in what's clearly a very Indian-coded Haven, possibly the sole Haven like this. There are still six others to explore, and I wouldn't be surprised if they shoehorned a Nordic Haven somewhere down the road.

Setting-wise, even an actual Indian hater would have no issues with this show. The rest of you are posers and trolls.

You all hate one another despite your status being shall we say "low", it is something which amuses the rest of us. Not as much as the grip strength charts but almost.

>Nordic Haven somewhere down the road.
There are no aryans in Avatar, unless we're going to find out about ancient space aryans.

The geographical fact that India is almost completely separate from Asia due to the Himalayas, both geographically and culturally, aside from inspiring Tibetan Buddhism?
