Wasn't the exact opposite true about the wedding/finale? Sugar always wanted the show to end with a gay wedding and only fought for it when she saw the end was nigh and CN wasn't going to renew the show. So she threw the dice figuring this was her last chance to do it, creating a fate accompli situation where she got her gay wedding story but at the cost of getting renewed with CN going "we will let you do the wedding, but we are going to quietly cancel the show afterwards"
