Why did this show get a cult following back in the late 2000s? Did it come out at the right time with Hot Topic stuff? Was it as big as Invader Zim was?

The art style reminds me of Invader Zim and Growing Up Creepie with how Tim Burton and gothic it is.

Outside of the goth look, it's like a Care Bears type of cartoon that all other cartoons make fun of from time to time.
