I really do not get the Bluey Adults.

I have young nieces, and hope to start a family myself some day, so of course I know OF Bluey and have even watched a decent chunk of episodes. It's a fun, sweet cartoon that doesn't baby-talk its audience and can tell a good story from start of episode to finish.

But it is very, very much a cartoon for toddlers and young children. It's not even the Horse Show, which was clearly designed for girls (or just audiences) from like 8 to 12. Bluey is written for an audience from 2 to 6, with just enough Easter eggs thrown in for the parents that they can tolerate it.

So the idea that there are grown-ass people who watch it, who are not mothers and fathers themselves, I confess I find rather alarming.

Cause you saw McKenzie. Bluey’s future boyfriend.

>who are not mothers and fathers themselves
Excuse you, their furbabies are just as, if not more valid than crotch goblins and you WILL respect their furparenthood

Only preschool cartoon I can legitimately enjoy is Curious George

For me, the appeal is my real childhood was shitty and my real family was dysfunctional. It’s a classic.

Watching fictional tv kids in an idealized family not get parentified or emotionally neglected feels wholesome. Thank god i know better than to let it trick me into thinking having kids myself would be a good idea tho. I’d fuck it up like my parents did. Maybe worse even.

Are you American?
Cause we Americans are so conditioned to believing that Blue's Clues is the superior blue dog that we hallucinate other competent cartoon dogs, like Bluey, that same color as a defense mechanism.

The Australians know this (their show is actually called "Australian Border Collie cartoon") yet named him Bluey to humor our superiority complexes..

For me, it reminds me of my not-shitty childhood. Season 1 is a lovey distillation of being a kid. It's beautiful and sincere, and you can tell that the people who made it were putting their hearts and souls into it.

It's a guilty pleasure. I wouldn't try to rank it against adult media, but it makes me feel something in a way that doesn't feel manufactured, and that's pretty cool.

I see it as being a family show in the most literal sense. It's nice to just see a competent and surprisingly realistic family from my own country being shown in animated form, you know?
I mean shit people watch Moe anime all the bloody time and that tends to get a hell of a lot more questionable.

Well... yeah.

Dogs aren't blue.

I should note that according to Australian nicknaming convention, it's actually more likely for a Red Heeler to be referred to as 'Bluey', as it has its origins in calling redhead blokes that. Has been a thing for at least a century.

I love blue heelers.

I don’t know that I can accept that premise. It’s tempting to think you’re better than people in some, sometimes many regards, but not realistic or ethical.

>>155975122
That said, it is a little weird that people without children or younger relatives enjoy bluey so much. But it’s not so weird when you stop and think about it - more sad than weird. A few replies to your post mention it just feels wholesome and its soothing to them. Make all your “autism” jokes there, but I think it’s more either people who are emotionally stunted, carry emotional baggage from their youth, or hyper sensitive/and/or hyper intelligent people who are prone to having their mood influenced by external factors more than most. This world can be so bleak and depressing. That doesn’t get talked about much in a real impactful way here on 4chan because for 1) this is 4chan and most board’s cultures derive from the baseline chaos of this website, where you’re meant to be wacky and mean spirited, snide and sarcastic, raging or dissociated long before being genuine and vulnerable 2) Reddit/the rest of the internet is associated more with vulnerability so people hate on it here even more. But those reasons aside yes this world is overwhelming for a lot of us not just your dysfunctional individuals or whatever 4chan stereotypes people have in their minds. So a show like this, I imagine (because I have not seen any episodes) can be comforting.

It’s not to say that their emotions compromise their intellect, but that they’re smart enough to see and feel things where others may not.

The switch is definitely a downgrade and the commentators are right to say so. But personally that’s why I'm just not going to watch it. We already had the best conclusion/send off we can probably hope for with The Sign, and now that Brumm’s involvement is over or significantly reduced, the writing’s taking a nosedive too. You can tell from the leaks revealing they’re introducing cat people.

The movie probably won’t fail, but I still hope every parent with an autistic kid spouting “not my bluey” finds something else for them to do that weekend.
