Last time we finished All Hail Megatron and Shane McCarthy's run on IDW Transformers and read the first three issues of Mike Costa's The Transformers. Now we read the next three issues to finish the "Things Fall Apart" story arc.Transform and roll out.Previous storytimes:>>155715906>>155908039>>155934330
Around this time Zander Cannon wrote a four issue miniseries about Bubmblebee that took place between issues three and four of The Transformers. In that series:>Bumblebee's Autobots are tricked by a human colonel into being his slaves and forced to capture other Autobots>Skywarp attacks military bases to build weapons for Megatron>Bumblebee escapes and looks for a special circuit board that can free the Autobots>Bumblebee and Skywarp meet and fight>Bumblebee uses the circuit board to disable the technology keeping the Autobots enslaved to the humans and gets a new chassis>Everything goes back to how it was in issue threeNow you're all caught up.
>>155980649>build communicator>Hello, Prowl? yes I think I saw a Blackarachnia in my neighborhood>we'll be right there Mr Cracker
>>155980663Drag Strip turns into a Tyrell P34, a real 1970s race car; the only reason they don't have six wheels today is that the F1 rules changed to make four the maximum, because F1 is mostly engineers playing rules lawyer with each other
That's it for today. Up next, Last Stand of the Wreckers.
>>155981400Much obliged. Been following the dumps since day one.
>>155981443Happy to hear it.
>>155981400thanks anon, keep it going
As someone going into this fresh, how bad was that Arcee one-shot?
>>155983388Bad enough that we skipped it. Pity. I'd never availed myself of the horror, and was morbidly looking forward to it.
>>155980649and so starts the adventure of one of the best characters in IDW TF
>>155980595Costa was a writer already working at IDW, doing some well-regarded work on their GI Joe reboot, but he got on the wrong side of Transformers fandom from day one with killing Ironhide in his first issue, and an interview where he talked about struggling to get to grips with Transformers as a concept, and with writing robot characters and understanding their motivations.A lot of the fans still just wanted Furman back, but even for the ones willing to give Costa a chance, he was making it difficult for them early on.>>155981314And so begins Menasor getting treated as the jobber combiner by IDW. There's at least an in-story reason for it this time.>>155984110One day I want to see a version of G1 that plays with the idea of Thundercracker being a moralfag with doubts about the Decepticon cause without speedrunning to him leaving them, and maybe not leaving them at all.
>>155983388>>155984042Brace yourselves, even if we missed the start of it, you're going to get a lot more of IDW1 Arcee being an unlikeable murderous psychopath before we're done.I expect that like a lot of things in his IDW Transformers, Furman was just doing something different for the sake of doing something different, was thinking of it as a body horror type story without even considering IRL troons, and without considering that fans or later writers might want to see the other female Autobots from the cartoon, or create other female Transformer OCs. Most of the times Furman ever created a Transformers OC it was just so he'd have someone expendable that could be killed off, when the toys already gave a cast of hundreds there wasn't really much need for OCs.
