Since Central OR and the area of the map it is shown in are semi-arid transferring into high desert region. Bend/Redmond region looks and vibes more like Northern NV/AZ than it does how people picture "Oregon" in their head. I chalk it up to Alex having not been to OR since childhood when he wrote S1, so he just picked a nice center of mass spot on the map.Coupled with the fact that Gravity Falls is de facto based on Southwest Oregon (Jackson and Josephine County being where Alex and the crew visited on their "Mystery Tour" to get firsthand experience with OR to use as ref inbetween seasons). It's the only region of OR that has redwoods and where most of the old roadside attractions are, and so many of those rural old logging/mining towns (Gold Hill, Rogue River, Cave Junction, Canyonville, Myrtle Creek, etc) look and vibe just like Gravity Falls. So it's sorta a situation where "the truth is somewhere in the middle", they say Central OR but it's not where they actually went to for ref.On that note I definitely recommend visiting Gold Hill/The House of Mystery sometime to any major fans. Not only do they have Polaroids and stuff up that the Gravity Falls crew left when they visited for the Mystery Tour, but they also have an entire shrine to the show there, a huge glass case filled with stuff that fans have left and put in it going back over a decade and ever growing. When I visited, the people working there told me fans from as far away as Japan and Russia have come there just to see "Gravity Falls" and "the real life Mystery Shack". It's a lot of fun. The 199 Redwood Highway and Trees of Mystery from the episode "Roadside Attraction", and Ashland (where Coraline is set) are also in the same region, so there's also more to see than just the Shack.>t. Oregonian that retraced the steps of the Mystery Tour once.
