It was justified especially when viewed in regards to the greater issue with mass media repackaging old IPs, completely rewiriting for a modern audience, and then acting shocked why the old fans hate it. They remake old shows because they want the old audience back but at the same time don't respect the old audience and want to chase a new one with literally no effort. If the reaction to Thundercats roar was unjustified than so was the reaction to literally every other half assed remake of an older IP.

Wolf was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1922. His father died when Wolf was a child and he was raised by his grandparents. His grandparents later gave him up to a foster home when he was 10. Eventually, he moved out, putting himself through high school and marrying at 19.[2]

Wolf enlisted to fight in World War II and lost part of his leg in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he studied mechanical engineering and worked at Westinghouse, patenting several inventions.[3] Wolf later became primarily involved in the development of toys and board games. He developed a version of the portable record player.[4]

In 1981, Wolf sketched a group of superpowered animals which combined superhuman and superanimal powers. After pitching the idea to several studios, Telepictures agreed to develop the series in 1984, and it became ThunderCats.

All they had to do was NOT make it CalArts beanmouth design and NOT rely on shitty millenial humor. If you want to do a comedy version of Thundercats, that is fine, but they went in the worst possible direction with it. It suffered ALL the same issues of every cartoon of that era but this time they used a classic IP to incorporate their shit ideas into. People had every right to react the way they did towards it.

Either make a Thundercats show that's in the style and tone of the original 1980's opening theme OR do a comedy reboot that's actually funny and still honors the source material while still looking cool and being entertaining. The people involved in the making of the show including it's faggot manbun showrunner didn't do any of that. Instead you got cringeslop that's a product of it's era that most people look back on and make fun of.

The quality of the animation doesn't matter (even if it is in fact good) when the animation is attached to garbage looking characters in a painfully unwatchable show. Literally no one gives a flying fuck about characters being animated well with tons of movement and wacky expressions when the show does NOTHING to justify why it has good animation. That's not people being shallow. Animation quality simply isn't the most important aspect of a cartoon. The OG Thundercats had crappy animation outside of the OP but it didn't stop the show from being a massive success and capturing the imagination of an entire generation of kids and airing on television for a decade straight.

>>
>>155990751
Animation qaulity is important though. It's just not as important as the writing. It might be a visual medium but there's a reason why the overwhelming majority of creators don't soley rely on animation to interest people in a show and I can't think of one example where the animation is the main selling point while also extremely successful. That's doesn't really happen because people want an interesting plot and characters to carry the show and keep them intrigued.

95% of anime doesn't have good animation. Never has just like most American animation. Anime actually does often have more interesting stories that western shows since western animation is either sitcom gag comedies or superheroes but the big problem with anime is they suck at characters and personalities. they lack the nuance of character writing unlike the best Western animation creators. The plots that anime often showcase are typically more unique and ambitious but you're usually being lead by some bland skinny teenager with messy hair and no personality. That's the problem. Their characters lack zest.

Prime example. Look at Disney characters and compare them to the abysmal Ghibli characters. No one would even remember any of the names of those characters over at Ghibli if some of the names weren't in the title of the films

Nigga literally the greatest pieces of animation came from Disney. You could watch any one of those classic films ONE time and still know Captain Hook, or Stitch, or Baloo or any other charasmatic iconic characters that everyone and their mom knows the name of. What a stupid ass response. As if the world would collectively forget about Donald Duck existed if Disney didn't promote Donald Duck all the time. He may lose popularity but that character is ingrained in the memory of every person on this planet since they were kids. Batman isn't great in situations where he doesn't have complete control over. Of course he acts like an asshole because in BTAS he's solo or leading Robin. He doesn't have a commitee of people telling him what is the right and wrong decisions. When other people put him in positions where he feel he is right, he's going to act out. That's basic storytelling 101. They handled his character fine in Justice League. You just don't understand how dynamics work.

Ghibli is kind of a bad example since it's far from how generic anime can get, but I agree with the general sentiment and this doesn't get talked about.
Anime characters seem to rarely have entertaining banter. Obviously that's the cultural barrier speaking on my part, and subtitled translatons are imperfect to gauge this sort of thing either way, maybe Japanese are having a hoot at some anime dialogue but I'm looking at >>155991063 and can't shake the feeling that the dialogue is all kinda generic, like the characters are just going through the beats they're supposed to go through without much zest or desire to spice things up with something different here and there.

Anon, this isn't one of those times where you can continue to argue with retarded rebuttals that make no sense in desperate hopes of winning an argument. As if that will make you correct.

Disney is remembered because it's pushed nonstop constantly. There are many brilliant beautiful pieces of art that are forgotten by time and some mid crap that gets constantly whored because they have people backing it.
Disney is the latter. It's animation greatness has been riding off the coat tails of movies older then your great great grandparents.
And anything created recently that's really really good can't catch a break because disney owns the idea of cartoons through marketing and control of critics.

Remove the nostalgia goggles. Top is cel animation. Bottom is digital animation. Both are great & are made with real talented artists who know their craft, compared to whatever shit Thundercats Roar is supposed to be.

Japan went digital in making anime 2 decades ago with Dragonball Super being the first ever anime to be animated full-blown digitally. And even in the digital format, they mog alot of talentless fucks in the current western industry.

>Both are great & are made with real talented artists who know their craft
Are you delusional? How many examples do I need to post for you to grasp the basic concept of old anime has consistently better animation than new ones? That's the point I was making and it's true. This has nothing to do with nostalgia, this has nothing to do with cel vs digital, and it doesn't matter if you think both are better than fucking Thundercats Roar. My sole point is NEW anime often lacks the animation quality of shows from 30 even 40 years ago and they've become lazy as shit. Not in general, just consistently.
>>
>>155991583
>super was shit on for years because of that fuckawful animation.
It was shit on because the production was rushed and therefore suffered in quality overall. Not just animation but also the choice of going with Yamomura's awful design designs and horrible shading. People ultimately ended up liking the show though because despite moments of terrible animation, it still had great animation and some of the arcs were fun. By the time we got to tournement of power, the art and the animation was great.

Funny thing though even at it's worst, it still had way better animation than the entirety of GT. I even rewatched it just to confirm and was shocked by how little they gave a shit about including big fight sequences in GT and the lack of effort they put into them.

>If anything, it's more correct to say Super had moments of great animation. Maybe five minutes worth overall.
Are you insane? You're objectively describing GT which has maybe even less than 5 minutes of good animation in it's entire run. Go watch any fight. Show videos and clips of crazy animated sequences. They don't exist. Meanwhile I can share 100 examples of quality animated moments from Super despite it's production problems.
>And I say that as someone who thinks GT is generally worse than Super.
Okay you're either misremembering or you simply haven't rewatched either of them recently.

I'll give you a definitive example. Here is a video from the final fight of the final arc of GT with Omega Shenron. Normally in situations like this the production values for final boss endings are high and they put a ton of effort into the battle but here they didn't which should tell you about the overall show itself. They couldn't even muster up enough talent and skill to pull off a memorable final fight with tons of back-and-forth action with wild exciting animation. Instead you get cheap slop that's no better in quality than the beginning of the series. How do you even fuck up a final fight in a DRAGON BALL show? It was already the biggest cartoon in Japan with the previous show being a massive game changer for animation.

Now wait until you see my comparison.
>>
>>155992013
>>155992201
Now compare that to the final battle in Super or most of the fights in Super after the first 10 episodes. The quality is a million times better consistently than ANYTHING in GT and I would bet everything on that.

They are trying to make it
They want to steal your children, they want to normalize trash writing and stories so kids don’t know any better and have no motivation. Because miserable people are easier to control, especially if they don’t know why they are miserable.
I fear we will reach a point very soon where the younger generations won’t be able to recognize quality. The very concept of good storytelling, animation, art, etc will be so foreign to them, that good media of the past shall be perceived as indecipherable and incomprehensible.
>>
>>155992284
It's kinda bad when you have to purposely mention the mediocre movies to make a point. People don't forget about popular movies or characters because Disney oversaturates them. People remember them because of their quality and that sticks with them.. What people ultimately do forget are just mediocre movies which you provided examples of.. Even though Pocahontas in particular is still extremely well known despite Disney not doing anything with that IP in years which also contradicts anon's original point.

>Nigga, dragonball super was shit on for years because of that fuckawful animation.
That because Japan tends to outsources its inbetweeners to places like Indonesia to do the animation, & it's quite common in the industry there. It's the reason why the DVD/Bluray releases have better animation than the original TV broadcasted episodes

That's not the reason. It's because Dragon Ball came back. Toei got way too excited and tried to release a show before putting any time in the production. They wanted it on TV as soon as possible and the quality of those early episodes are a result of that. Even the manga was playing catch up to the anime which is ass backwards.

Skills issue

It's because most westerners don't understand anime, even when its properly translated. Then you have places like CalArts that calls their talentless beanface characters "brave" & "beautiful" only to cause more incompetence in the industry. It's the reason why many western studios feels stagnated in terms of artstyle & have degraded with talentless fucks over time. That's why the AI is really a good thing & needs to happen sooner. Those nepobaby leftists in the industry can't make jack shit while all the people in the industry who real talent are drowned under so many idiots running the studios. It's the reason why the 70s is one of the worst decades in western animation.

Not to mention it's all shonen & shojofags in general. Shonenfags & shojofags are low IQ, & think as long as the characters are fighting it will make an interesting story. Shonenfags think transformation can makeup for shitty artstyle, while shojofags then changing female character clothing will makeup for shitty plot development. Amazing how so many millennials grew up with Toonami, 4kids, & a ton of anime & never once did they bother learning from the nips or the shows.

Wrong, it's common in Japan for the TV broadcasted episodes to be of less quality before their official DVD/Bluray releases, especially when its fresh & new out of the animation sweatshop. Also it's not the anime that sells the series, but the manga that sells. Japan is a manga nation 1st & an an anime nation 2nd. Only the cream of the crop reach ever international audiences.

I'm tired of this this shit. If you retards are going to criticize Western animation for ugly beanmouth bullshit then you should be 10x more pissed and bitch about all those shitty anime shows of the last 20 fucking years where every single character regardless of gender looks exactly the same as one another even down to having the same exact simplified faces where characters don't even have noses or lips. The only way you can tell the difference is by changing the hair. Just the most generic lazy drawings that somehow even have less visual personality to them than shitty beanmouth CalArts garbage. Anything that even remotely resembles something like Sword Art Online undeniably has among the worst character designs in the entire animation medium and that should be called out more by you faggots.

Honestly there should have been more anger towards this then there actually was. This garbage was genuinely offensive
