Why did so many 2010s cartoons end up being disappointing by the end
>>155986682Are you trying to cause a shitstorm?
>>155986682You know how hard it is to write an ending?
A good ending is actually incredibly rare in television. Shows petering out is the norm. how many shows can you say the last season was the best one? it's usually one of the worst
>>155986682>ATOriginal Creative tapped out and the work was taken over by his weepy and overly emotional subordinates who disliked the original vision.>SUOriginal Creative got bowled over by her subordinates who made a mess of things. Also she sacrificed the final arc of the show for the sake of having a gay wedding.>Star vsOriginal Creator was left without supervision for two additional seasons after the version of the show with heavy executive meddling that people liked had run its course. >R&MOriginal set of Subordinates had multiple departures over stuff like dental insurance which let one of the two creative heads to bring in all his own guys while the other one tuned out, leaving the show unbalanced. Most of the time a show goes to shit it was because the specific mixture of people in leadership who made the show what it was were fucked with resulting in a lesser product. And while not these 4 shows in particular if not leadership being fucked with then its because of a general fatigue due to sheer length, as not many shows can pull off coming back out of the middle season droppoff.
>>155986682By the end? Pretty much all of those were already falling off by season 3.
>>155986682not really unique to the time alot of stories struggle to close out
>>155986682Serialization by it's nature is disappointing because the audience only cares about the extended middle an any ending the show would have would interrupt it.
>>155987081It's a little difficult.
>>155986682You just got old
>>155988802Go back
>>155988813Stop crying over cartoons. Grow up.
>>155988802We're all manchidren here and we all talked about the endings to these sucked huge cock newfag zoomer
Most endings for most stories tend to suck
>>155989711
>>155987245Even when you factor in seasonal rot it's shocking how bad some shows can end. RG's last season was literally its only bad one and it still had a solid final arc (I refuse to acknowledge Lost Tapes).
>>155986682They went on for too long
>>155989849>RGRS, what the fuck is RG what was I thinking of
>>155986682Desu I informally call the 2010s the Decade of Disappointment when it comes to animation. Not a single major property from that decade ended up delivering on its promise.>ATCreative collapse about half-way through>SUDepending on who you ask either went to total shit somewhere in season 2 or 3>Star vsCompletely lost the plot after the movie>Rick and MortyForced writers shakeup after season 2 that trashed the show>Regular ShowGot derailed by relationship bullshit>Bojack HorsemanThe creator self-sabotaged the show because people he didn't like were watching it>Gravity FallsSeason 2 sucked ass and the finale was disappointing>KorraLol, lmao>Technicolor Equine CompanionsEven the horsefuckers admit that one went to shit early onThere were shows that never really got all that popular that ended up doing fine, but if it was a popular show in the 2010s it's like it was cursed to go to shit
>>155989902Oh I almost forgot, Gumball became way too cynical and self-referential to the point it became genuinely grating
>>155986682>Top leftOriginal writer was kicked out and the lesbian shippers who replaced him weren't as good, simple as.>Top rightShe realized too late she didn't really have time to do anything with White Diamond and said fuck it. Then she got a second chance but didn't really know what to do with Future.>Bottom LeftGenuinely just a really stupid idea they thought was brilliant, and they didn't want to hear it from others about all the problems with it. Nothing more, nothing less.>Bottom rightIs it over? I stopped watching when Space Beth became a regular.
>>155989925SU is more like "Let the writers walk all over her"
>>155989902What about Transformers Prime? It ran for as long as Star Vs or Korra did.
>>155989315Fuck off, fag
>>155986682Steven Universe really made me despise the 11 minute format for serialized shows.
So what was the last good season for each of these?
>>155986682Star VS kept on reinventing itself. Compare the first season and final season and its a completely different show entirely.
>>155987302Funny how star vs is the only one where the creator being allowed to work on it makes it infinitely worse. Although I did hear it was only the last season she was allowed to touch. It was Volpe for seasons 1 and 2, then they fired him for not having a vagina, Cotugno for seasons 2 and 3 (shared with Volpe, super obvious which episodes she ruined), then Nefcy for season 4.
>>155986682The good ones like Tron Uprising and GLTAS and Young Justice died young>But young justice had a revivalAnd it kind of proves that maybe it was for the best that they died young.
>>155990099>Funny how star vs is the only one where the creator being allowed to work on it makes it infinitely worse.only in this particular example, it's less unusual than it sounds (but no less ridiculous). danny phantom was a decent show at first because butch hackman was barely involved at first, then he obliterated S3 so hard that no one even talks about it anymoreyou also have examples outside of cartoons like how the x-files were mediocre as a serialized story but the episodic stories were kino
>>155990278Those weren’t good
>>155990341Young Justice had two good seasons. Then it went full..."Netflix" towards the end and shit the bed. Never wanted to see tron and you are right about GLTAS it was shit from jump and had the ugliest cheapest fucking animation
>>155989902I don't admit that, it's just the butthurt losers that say so
>>155990391>GLTAS it was shit from jump and had the ugliest cheapest fucking animationNo>>155990422Don’t project
>>155986682what killed each of them for me was>AT season 5 when the show became loredumpy. >SUsteven stopping the cluster with the power of friendship >star vsstars voice made me drop by episode 1 >rick and mortythe avengers episode made rick broken
>>155989902>>Gravity Falls>Season 2 sucked ass and the finale was disappointingEh, I really don't agree here, sorry. There were only two episodes I outright disliked in the second season, the rest I felt were better on average than season 1. The finale was also mostly fine for me outside of them quickly undoing grunkle stan's memory loss.
>>155989902Anon, what you are describing isn't true just for cartoons, but for most of television.Serialized TV typically peaks early on, as in the first season or so. That's because it's when the creator(s) has the most solid grasp about what the show should be and they don't have to find ways to unnatually extend or diverge from the premise. Shows that manage to stay interesting all the way through like The Sopranos are the exception. It's also that the set-ups are almost always more intriguing than the pay-offs and a lot of these shows were lorebaiting (for instance, Steven Universe was more exciting when we didn't know almost anything about the Gem Homeworld than now that we do know almost everything about it). Your brain fills up the spots.Sitcoms are a tad different. They typically peak somewhere around season 2-5. The first season is virtually always pretty lame because the creators are usually just (maybe even unknowingly) ripping off another more popular show from the past and the show doesn't come into its own voice until a few seasons in.I'm more forgiving with long-running sitcoms because realistically there's only so many good episode ideas you can get out of the wacky adventures of the Simpsons family. Also writers and creators typically leave after a while and even if they stay their sense of comedy (and the audience's) changes. If the late seasons have good episodes or ideas, then it's still worth it. It's not like newer seasons being more unfun really ruin the show.
Is there a way to create a sincere show with an interesting premise and keep it on the air/well liked enough to get merch? Not irony poisoned, or preaching to a choir of bubble people of creeps online. Just a good show that has a simple yet interesitng premise created to entertain an audience?
>>155986682rick and morty isn't dead but to be fair i wont be surprised if its finale is gay
>>155986682>Written by leftists and uncreative people.
>>155990422That post wasn't asking you to admit anything, that was an anon stating his opinions. Some of which I dont even agree with loke Gravity Falls, but he's not saying you have to "admit" anything.
>>155990932>Le sincerity
>>155991345That poster was clearly an ESL, Please understand he took offense to something because he didn't fully grasp what was being said.
>>155991345>>155991402Do you retards have dyslexia?>Even the horsefuckers admit that one went to shit early on
>>155989902>>Bojack Horseman>The creator self-sabotaged the show because people he didn't like were watching itwhat? the ending was pretty good
>>155986682This doesn't apply to Adventure Time
>>155990857serialized shows also have the book problem where you have all the time in the world to do season 1/book 1 cause it's not a thing yet. Then it comes out, they ask for more. Now you're on the clock for season 2 within a year or two. hard to shift into that.
>>155991356le ironic post
>>155990857>Sitcoms are a tad different. They typically peak somewhere around season 2-5.A while back I realized a huge number of shows peak between seasons 3-5. When I think of "classic South Park" I don't think of the one with the worcestershire sauce zombies, I think of the one where the boys recover their seamen from their dead teacher's stomach in the morgue.Season 1-2 of a lot of shows feels completely different from what comes later, and somewhere around season 7 or 8 it starts to feel like a parody of itself. But season 4 is almost always good.
>>155991519It does, but not as much as the average /co/ mouthbreather would say. S1-4 are kino, S5-6 are hit or miss, S7-9 are mostly good, S10 is a dull unsatisfying ending (short as hell too)
>>155987081>and they lived happily ever after, the endHOLY SHIT THAT WAS SO FUCKING HARD MY FINGERS ARE BURNING AS WE SPEAK
>>155987302>Original Creator dindu nuffinWhy is it that Hirsch/Sugar/Nefcy as well as Genndy get away with this shit? Then with certain creators is the exact opposite, like how cartoon twitter acts like Hartman had nothing to do with FOP/DP's success and it was all his subordinates? But the fuck ups that came later are all on him?
>>155986682Millennials work on vibes and feelings, they don't know what to do when the ride slows down
>>155992905The latter only applies if the creator happens to be a conservative or even really just anti-politics-in-cartoons in general
>>155986682>adventure timelong winded trash lore bait where the writers and artists couldn't stop sucking each other off to realize their work was boring and unfunny as fuck>steven universeditto but somehow even gayer>star not that bad, just got too ambitious later on and couldn't deliver a satisfying climax and resolution>rick and morty unironically probably the best of the four, only because they focused on extended lore while also making entertaining, stand alone episodes that were fun to watch on their own and just teased most of the time. which says a lot about how truly bad adventure time and steven universe are. they both took themselves way too seriously for what it is. fucking regular show had a better overall story even though they jumped the shark with that whole space thing at the end
>>155986682Trying too hard to be subversive™ and gay
>>155990985https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/dan-harmon-rick-and-morty-movie-plans-show-ending-1235613999/ >Which doesn’t mean he hasn’t given thought to how the show might ultimately conclude. If not the final episode or final scene, he has considered what the final moment or moments could entail. At least he did once THR posed the question. “It would maybe just be Morty turning 15 and finding a girlfriend that actually makes him want to be an independent person, so everything is kind of destroyed because Morty just wants to be a teenager now and start to grow up,” he says, and it’s clear he’s tickled by the idea. “Yeah, maybe Morty’s 15th birthday would be the catastrophic sinking of that Titanic.”
>>155994171I actually like that ending, I just don't like how Harmon's made it clear he'll drag out the show for as long as possible before we ever get there
>>155990631>stars voice made me drop by episode 1 Great! You missed out on what's easily THE worst of the "hit 2010s cartoons" Seriously, I never understood how it was held in such high regard
>>155987245Gravity Falls. Granted that was just two seasons and written with the ending in mind from the start, but still
>>155993096and is it good, dough?
>>155990049Star vs was never good.
>>155986682Star Vs. was good in its first season because it was an decent mix of Kim Possible and Dave the Barbarian, but I stopped caring after they tried to take themselves seriously with romance, allegories and other stuff. I couldn't give less of a damn about the "fucked up finale" because that's like complaining about rotten corn in a turd soup.
One thing I can congratulate Craig of the Creek on is always excelling at making backup finales https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLvImeGgy_Q It's no surprise the actual finale was still so satisfying
>>155990084lol Daron didn't know what the hell she was doing
Because everyone seems to mistake vague writing for DEEP PLOT, and assume the writer actually has an idea of where they are going with the plot and how they will end it. Instead these are poorly thought out plot premises designed to create "We can do just about ANYTHING" shows to create episodes for until the show finally gets cancelled.Gargoyles and Avatar are the only two cartoons I can think of where the writer had a clear plan for the series and what was going to happen, instead of trying to create another long-running IP to make pulp stories for.
>>155996291>written with the ending in mind from the startIndustry should do it more often, but they ONLY care about money and merch revenue, sadly
>>155986682AT went on to long corrupted by muh lore faggety went to shit .SU was always shit more episodes just flushed out how shit it was. Star was always shit nothing more to say. R&M went on to long got DEI writers.
>>155989902>Bojack Horseman>The creator self-sabotaged the show because people he didn't like were watching itI still can't get over what a shitshow S5 was compared to everything prior. Someone should see what car the creator drives and point out what horrible monster in history drove the same vehicle. Virtue signalling loser.>>155991503So the sudden retcons in S5 of Bojack going from a shitty person who's trying to become better, to being irredeemably shitty and needing to be locked away from the rest of society didn't bother you? Him going from a sloppy drunk to someone who's literally going to try to strangle a coworker during a scene didn't bother you? How about that scattered and non-sense speech from Diane about how people like Bojack are absolutely evil but Bojack isn't evil because uh...?Outside of Free Churro, S5 almost felt like a different show, and even then Free Churro only works when you ignore the brief moment of connection between Bojack and his mother near the end of S4. Because apparently Bojack forgave his mother enough to not shit on her like he always wanted, but showed up to her funeral just to dump on her?
>>156001677>SU was always shit more episodes just flushed out how shit it was.No
Adventure Time's ending was fine. If you hate it you're wrong. Goodbye.
>>156001892>NoYes
>>156002005Shut up, tard
Ironically I never liked Steven Universe but it always looked to me like it stayed pretty true to itself, which I can't say about Rick and Morty or Adventure Time.
>>156002019You have to be either really stupid or really smart to enjoy Adventure Time, midwits can't get in
The unfortunate answer to all four cases is women writers.
Why does it feel like Rick and Morty started as a scathing parody of family sitcoms and their dynamics to just being an actual family sitcom?
>>156002047You are the former, delusional fag
>>156002178how would you know? you're just a midwit. you can't tell the difference.
>>156002148Because every channel 101 skit and pilot by Justin Roiland was an irreverent sitcom parody while Dan Harmon is just an unironic industry sitcomfag.
