She's very submissive with her brother and her default personality is bratty but not necessarily angry. Really not that difficult for such a thing to happen, and that's before you get into the massive disparity in power dynamics regarding the marriage. It's entirely possible Stolas sees Stella as a lesser person than himself and undeserving of him even paying attention to her emotions.
