Assuming it's true, which I don't, what's the trajectory there? Fire all the creators and then when the AI cartoons all inevitably bomb, what, hire them back? Stop making cartoons altogether? Stubbornly keep pumping them out for no profit?

Execs like to talk rot about what AI will do in the "near future", but I would have thought the market analysts would put the kibosh on actually jumping in with both feet when the technology hasn't actually materialised. It's not like you can use cartoons as an investment scam.
>>
>>156062602
It's probably true because studios only see the bottom line, but it's not going to go well. AI needs to be implemented gradually into work to assure quality in each step.
>>

>AI needs to be implemented gradually into work to assure quality in each step.
What the fuck does it even mean for a cartoon to "be AI" anyway? That's just a buzzword, what actual tools?
>>
What a time for Netflix start these plans, when the AI bubble just recently burst in China.
>>
>>156062750
>Fire all the creators and then when the AI cartoons all inevitably bomb, what, hire them back?

That's the less likely option. The more likely option is the business goes under, they sell it, get big pay outs, then use that to gamble, finance, buy stocks. Stock by backs. Grifts. Ect.
>>
>>156062798
Probably an in between frames program to replace some korean animators. A completely hypothetical thing that would most likely be legally challenged.

>>156063364
Ladies wint be boycotting the shows. Theyll just be bad and no one will watch them.
Not because theyre ai but because they aren't fixing the problem
They vacated the industry of creative people and now only hire people who can't create. The ai replaces the studio, sure we should use tools, but it doesn't replace the original idea haver. Someone still has to have the idea, and the people they insist on hiring aren't capable of creating, and the people who are are barred from hiring because the other people find them annoying.
>>
>>156062750
Using the latest big buzzwords gets them investment for the next quarter, which raises their stocks and beefs up their portfolios. If and when things collapse, they burn said stock, get a fat payout, and then move on to find something else to suck dry
>>

>then move on to find something else to suck dry
I'm waiting. It's gotta happen eventually right? Hollywood is a heap of burning trash RIGHT NOW and they're still blowing mountains of cash.
I don't beleive it. I want to but I dont. They are holding the bag not for profit but for ideological reasons. The moment they stop, or evem just slow down, they'll get overrun by the small creators waiting in the wings for the market to open up.

While I personally won't watch this shit, the primary audience (kids and normalfags) absolutely will.
Kids are already inundated in AIslop and normalfags just use Netflix as background noise while they play around on their phone, so they don't really give a fuck what's playing on it.

They don't have to, they just borrow money against their projected future value. Anthropic, for example, reports an $80 billion paper loss this year but are pitching a TAM of $30 trillion to investors. Obviously this will work swimmingly forever and nothing will go wrong
>>
>>156065177
Writers use LLM for script. Storyboarders prompt images. Animators generate extrapolated frames. AI voices and music.

>Chinese cinemas initially declined due to quality concerns, then put it on because of a family connection, and most importantly there was Nothing Else for people to see
So, someone working for free, in a market of nothing, and a demand for everything, can make a lot of money, however if you spend $$$, you can fail, presumably due to a lack of connections because I cannot even find Sanxingdui Future Past on google.

If anything I'm not sure why China doesn't appear to have its own domestic Hollywood churning out shit. I thought they'd have at least three MCUs going on at any one time. Why can't China, a technological superpower with vast ghost cities, keep up with America?
>>
>>156065260
And then they cut the numbers of people in each role as the AI makes less and less mistakes, then they realise they don't need any animators/storyboarders/etc because they tested fully AI produced versions and audiences didn't mind so this saves money, then the writers go, etc, etc. What you've written isn't where it could end up.

AI can't actually do most jobs, and industry predictions about what it will be able to do in the future are mostly lies. But to the extent AI can/will replace jobs, it means those jobs are essentially makework. If white collar work were made obsolete, to the extent we can maintain the same productivity while employing a much smaller proportion of the population, that sounds like a job for UBI.
>>
>>156065260
>>156065316
You're missing a key ingredient: vision. You need to know what you want to make. You gotta storyboard scenes with consistency and direction. You have to write what needs to be said. You need the voices to bring the characters to life. Everyone brings their talent to the table to produce the best they can. AI just does what has already been done. It's good at pattern recognition, but if you it done right, you gotta do it yourself.

Honestly, I think this might be legit given the recent Netflix layoffs apparently heavily impacted their animation department.
I think Netflix has kind of run out of steam at this point, a lot of their operating capital came from investments, and investors aren't as wild about them as they once were. I think the future of "animation" at Netflix will be AIslop from the west, licensed anime, and maybe they'll continue to try and poach the big "indie" shows for easy streaming views to pad their numbers.
It'd explain why they apparently tried to make a deal with Space King and DID make deals with TADC and Monkey Wrench.

White collar work represents over half of jobs and the better paid half. In this far-fetched hypothetical where it's all automated away, that's a shit ton of wealth decoupled from the rat race. If people don't need to work to survive they will work fewer hours, so the remaining work is more distributed, and will have more freedom to pursue less remunerative endeavours (work does not have to pay to be satisfying or productive). I know the assumption is that any and all excess wealth will be siphoned off by the rich, but you're talking about a fantasy scenario in which there's greater than 50% unemployment for the foreseeable forever, that's not a survivable situation for the elite. That's the direct it's going though. There's plenty of qualified people but employers have become too stingy. They would rather operate on a skeleton crew barely keeping pace with demand over hiring extra help to reduce stress. We should have 28-hour work weeks, but the people who are employed are also just as thinly-spread that if they don't work forty hours they won't be able to pay rent. There's a huge problem when faceless investors drive all decision-making and everybody suffers.

Just squeeze out enough growth for the next quarter and we've kicked the can further down the road! (full of potholes)

What is even going on in this page? Is the large woman in two places at once in the first panel? And when the purple guy is shooting the blue guy, where the heck is that purple laser coming from? It's just, like, connecting their torsos without any sense whatsoever of which direction it's firing, or even what it's coming out of. Not to mention all the nonsensical minor stuff like the large woman's gloves changing/disappearing every time you see her, or the speech balloon in the second panel apparently being spoken by two different people off-panel. You're making the usual mistake in assuming that big business operates logically.

Investors worship AI, because they are a mix of sociopathic scammers and sheltered idiots. The more AI you use and talk about, the higher your stock value goes. It is literally that simple.

As a side bonus, Netflix gets to have their cake and eat it too: they don't want to pay for animation, because it's expensive compared to the boring live action slop shows they make for women to pretend to watch while they futz around with their phones. But they also don't want to not have it because that gives their competitors a winning edge.

The fact AI is replacing everything: programmers, mathematician, astronomer, doctors, teachers, writers BUT CANT REPLACE ceos and managers.
Working from home during the pandemic taught us one very important lesson that managers cant be replaced by AI, because humans want a job where they speak with other humans.

There has been an explosion in AI applications that have come out, the idea being that "jobs for nerds" have finally hit a point where the managers of Big Tech has the AI that will allow AI to take the place of the nerds. I have never once seen those tools replacing managers or CEOs.

All of these pics look absolutely uninteresting and uninspired. You see it and you just know it is slop made with no effort and no humanity put into it.
Part of what makes art attractive is knowing another person has put part of their own self into making it. AI shit is absolutely soulless. I know the term gets thrown around a lot, but that's the best way to describe it.

You see an art that awes you, a story that moves you, characters that speak to you, and knowing that someone was actively behind those things makes us feel admiration, and, in a way, less alone.
Human blood, sweat and tears are what makes people connect with each other through art, and that's a good thing.

Sure it isn't, guy. Why not post your old work then? I know you have it. Or are you going to prove me correct in that you ARE ashamed of your own existence?

>>156062602 I love this mentality, make crappy shows the one watches, proceed to blame artists, replace artists with foreigners, make crappy shows no one watches replace foreign artists with AI, make crappy shows no one watches etc. animation industry has been dead pretty much since the end of adventure Time. It's like when the CEO of Disney came out and said the problem with the marvel movies wasn't that they were crappy and woke it was because they cost too much. That's why there's a huge push for AI they're going to make the same crappy stuff cheaper, notice how they never talk about replacing the directors or the writers it's always the special effects guys and modelers. Animators the little nobody's who have no real control direction

Watercolor? oil painting? charcoal? woodcut?
Nobody post in social media photos of his amazing creations of watercolor, oil painting, charcoal and woodcut. Before of ChatGPT internet artists only draw using ipads and today they draw with ChatGPT, but never draw anything in a physical object

It has nothing to do with it being done in physical media, but rather in knowing another human being put effort behind it. Digital art is much easier and practical than traditional art, but it still requires effort, skill, etc.

It is not. I usually admire people giving their best even if their art isn't great, since failing and trying to learn from it is essential for anything in life, not just art, but yours just sucks. I would respect it if you were humble, but that is not the case. You think you're great and that everyone is wrong, which is the mark of an idiot.

So does AI art. If you haven’t actually used the technology and just parrot what everyone on your discord is saying, your opinion is worthless.

AI is constantly generating questions as it figures out design and canon, which requires a lot of reading and thinking time from me.
>>156068192
Yeah I don’t want to do those since Toby Fox taught me the audience it brings.
>>156067965
Have you considered actually reading the story to find things out like a normal person? Does that go through your head at all or are you brainrotted and just flow with your algorithm?

No if the "artist" make digital art using the bare minimum. And you have "Artists" of X making characters in the Adult Swim style, tshirt and pants, only in two solid colors, empty background and awful proportions.

This is a gay person stigmatizing individuality and an auteur approach to creativity, signaling that anyone who won’t “open his mind” and dump out his own ideas to have them replaced with the social group’s is evil.

Instead, AI maintains a record of all my ideas it has access to. This technology will put a permanent damper on all your future efforts to therapeutize away young visions.
>>
>>156064761
Somebody buckling down for a few months could also write the greatest novel or screenplay, or paint the greatest portrait, or film the greatest indie movie.

Technology was never the limiting factor. Talent and creativity are. Technology just means the result happens sooner. If it was going to be shit, AI just throws it at us faster.
>>
>>156068518
>Technology just means the result happens sooner.
Therefore it reduces the significance of a limiting factor.

AI, at best, will be as liberating as modern cell phones were for photography. Everyone can take amazing pictures whenever they want. But there's still such a thing as professional photographers, and everyone can tell when a place just uses phone pictures taken by the owner's kid.

Almost everyone in our society is literate. But most people can't come up with an interesting plot. If they'd use AI, they would indeed have the completed book that never would've existed before. But it wouldn't have existed before because they'd have realized after finishing chapter one that it sucked ass and quit.
>>

>AI, at best, will be as liberating as modern cell phones were for photography
I think you are underestimating the potential impact of AI. Or at least, you're taking a very one-sided look at it.
What is the reason any artist works for a corporation? It's capital. It takes far more money and manpower to produce and distribute a cartoon than any single animator can muster, and is a tremendous risk because the money needs to be spent upfront. Financing is the actual primary function of publishers and studios.
AI can upend this system by making animation so cheap to produce, that animators no longer need the studio. It is baffling to me that people only worry about AI taking their jobs, instead of seeing AI as liberation from corporate dependence.
How much cost reduction does a company like Netflix expect from AI? 30%, 50%, even 80%? At that point, animators should be smart enough to say "hey, it is now economically feasible for us to self-distribute on Youtube. Goodbye, Netflix."
>>
>>156069382
>AI can upend this system by making animation so cheap to produce, that animators no longer need the studio.
And then non-animators will no longer need the animator.
Go take a look at advertising for local bars and restaurants, what used to be promotional art created by artists is now pretty much exclusively AIslop, because it's cheap.
Animators aren't ALL delusional, they know that the average normalfag gives no fucks about animation or art, so they understand that AI is going to be "good enough" for the average person.
Ironically, the only industries that will avoid this are the ones aimed at otaku and nerds, since many of them do like the idea of an artist who takes the time to learn how to draw and animate so that they can share their weird shit or fetishes with the world.

>>156065314

>>156062602
Good. The sooner animation transitions to AI the better.

Face it, animation is one of those fields where AI makes logical, ethical, and moral sense. Animation is a back breaking endeavor that pays extremely little, that's why so much of it is outsourced to other countries.

AI animation will allow creators to focus on what's important, writing, directing, story boarding, key frames, and art style.
>>
>>156066442
Eh. On one hand, I see plenty of potentially useful applications.

On the other, I also think it's currently so terrible on just about every level, that rejecting it categorically is probably the most reasonable stance.
>>
>>156066469
What I love is we don't have people who only love AI art yet. We got people who enjoy AI art and traditional art, and people who hate AI art. Fuck the haters man, keep learning and improving and expanding and you'll be making great stuff.

This is also why the right has been much more open to AI usage in animation than the left.

Right wing creators have been ostracized and discriminated against for decades due to the woke takeover of the formal institutions, this give them all the incentives to be more pro-AI since there's no incentive in defending a medium that actively hates them as group. This affects heavily animation in the west, which is already infamous for being low quality slop for kids and millennial manchilds, so your average normalfag won't give a crap about who's actually doing everything behind scenes despite how much artists bitch on Twitter
